Best Grand Slam to win?

If you were a Tennis Pro, and had a choice of which slam you could win. And that would be the only slam you would win, which slam would it be?

Personally, in the History/Prestige category I would pick Wimbledon.

In terms of electric atmosphere, number of spectators, glitz, glamour and pure adrenalin and excitement etc., Id have to say US Open.. by a mile.

I have yet to see a more intimidating, imposing, electrifying arena than a packed capacity Arthur Ashe stadium, especially at night under the lights. It is absolutely amazing.

Wimbledon by a million miles. Than Roland Garros, than US Open. The American hyped thing with the faaaar too big arthur ashe doesn't appeal to me that much.

I don't play tennis myself so can't comment on rather winning on HC or clay

I'll just reply for about 95% of the people here and say Wimbledon. Say you the reading.

It depends on the person. If I was a clay courter I would want to win the French. If I was a traditionalist I would want to win Wimbledon. If I was an excitement junkie I would want to win the US Open. If I was a fitness buff I would want to win the Australian.

If I was a tennis pro I would want to win any one of them. Snobbery between grand slams? Not me!

I agree about USO, but Paris still means glamour, I´d say cool for NY and glamour for Paris.

If you are Roger Federer, RG. ;) Otherwise we all know Wimbledon has got the edge. When you come to that stage to challange for slams, money is not an issue, fame is, prestigue is. Tradition plays a big role here also.

Wimbledon and then the French because the French usually has the least likely of winners. It's so different from many others.

But Wimby is what tennis is known for. If you gave people a choice, they'd probably want to play at wimby because grass is somewhat rare and the gold net posts are badass.

Wimbledon for tradition, history etc.(it's almost like an unofficial world contest even though all slams are supposedly equal),99% of the players would say the same IMO if they're asked.

I FULLY AGREE, the U.S. Open by a mile. I think that the vast majority of pros would rather win the U.S Open than anything else, I know I would if I were a pro.

More players than you think despise Wimbledon or couldn´t care less.
Grass is the least important surface of the 3 right now and there´s basically nothing on grass besides Wimbledon so some players don´t even bother or don´t take the tournament seriously, even skip it.
Many of them also dislike the treatment they get from the organizers which is understable.
I think the AO would be the least popular choice but it would be pretty balanced between all the other 3.

Surely you are joking Zara ? I mean surely, for your own good. Wimbledon is as good as you get. The ones which could care less are the ones who can do nothing at it while any normal player would consider it tops. Lendl always had remarks about his only regret being that he has no Wimby titles. All the great champs to name a few like Borg, Sampras, Federer are proud of their Wimbledon achievements.

Grass may be the least important surface but Wimbledon is the most important slam.

Wimbledon. But since I am a heavy topspin player, I guess the French would be more reasonable to say. But it's not like I'm going to turn pro haha.

Where the hell is the poll ? That would sum up the results much easier than having to read all the posts here.

I love Wimbledon for the tradition, it's the most historically prestigious and the FO for the effort required and the longer, more spectacular rallies. The Australian is fun because of the special atmosphere in the audience (rowdy and colorful). The only thing I can say in favor of the USO is that since I live in NY, it's the easiest one for me to go to (and I go every year!) but it's still my least favorite slam.

It'd be a toss up between Wimbledon and the US Open for me. Wimbledon obviously has the tradition and prestige but winning a slam in front of my own country would be great, especially at a late night match with the wild crowd.

Maybe you're right but all I know is almost every player I heard was interviewed would say if he had a choice he would like win Wimbledon more then any other slam.Wilmbledon is not my favourite slam anyway as in the 90s when I started to watch it was a serve-fest(I like it better now)and I also don't like the rain interrupting the matches and screwing up the schedule but I still think that winning Wimbledon would bring a player most glory and recognition.

Grass may be the least important surface but Wimbledon is the most important slam.

Same happens to some players at RG (the overwhelming dominance of hardcourt tournaments in the tour make some players despise other surfaces). There are many players who focus in R.Garros and don´t try so hard in Wimbledon because clay is their best surface, grass is their worst and Wimbledon comes after an intense clay season (and that´s not the case of just a few players).
I tell you I have read many interviews with current pros from latin countries (and latin players are about half of the top 100) and that´s what most of them think.
Perhaps it´s shocking for people who just read/watch the english speaking media but they are missing a big part of the picture.
Then add most of americans and french players who would probably pick their home Slams and you will see my point.
There is not one Slam more important than other right now (ranking points, 128 draws, similar prize money...). You can think about the one with most history,tradition...but not most important. Important is not the correct word if you want to rate majors based in your personal preferences.

Yeah by points there is not one more valuable than another, but tennis is all about Wimbledon, thats the highest trophy in tennis, if you have a choice to win anything, its Wimbledon

Why is this so hard to accept ? Formula 1 is driven everywhere and it always awards a winner 12 points. But you know - win in Monte Carlo and win in Malesya are not comparable. As in many other sports, there is this one tournament or place which has a very special meaning to the world.

Just to put things into perspective : Roger Federer first wanted to play professionaly when he saw, Sampras, guess where ? Also Novak Djokovic's idol, the same guy was an inspiration for him. Nadal grew up reaming of Wimbledon title. There you go, these three players should rest the case on what the pro players think about this.

I don't know about that. Justine-grew up wanting to win the French. Mauresmo was inspired after seeing Yannick win the French. Different people. Different wants. No more. No less.
