TheJRK is very relaxed in his motion. Almost plastic/rubber like. That relax form gets his the speed, his wrist snap gets him even more pop.

Vitaly. Of all the peeps in my clinic, you have the nicest first step on your backhand. Thats a big compliment to a 2 hander, who tends take a delayed side step.

Also, do you slice much? I've realized I have yet to seen you slice anything.

Also the prestige looks good on you.

P.S. Whats the "whitewolf" story?

I haven't seen that auction... will check it out. *EDIT* I SAW THE AUCTION!!! the last time that guy posted that frame I think he was asking like $200 minimum. Now he has an open auction. Mi corazon es caliente

Btw, I think you could probably get a little more pace on your serve  by tossing the ball a little more forward. Your body momentum seemed to be falling backwards a little bit, and I wouldn't have suspected that from the way your serve comes off.

I can't see the videos at work but I'm sure I wasn't going forward as much which is why those were double faults. Also, that net was too damn high, probably like 40" ;)

Vitaly - My old coach thought I was arming the ball too much as well but it really doesn't feel like it to me. I really don't put a lot of effort into my serves nowadays <snickers>. In high school I would seriously put everything I had into my serve but alas I can't generate that kind of pace anymore, at least not for more than one service game. You started to serve well at the end and I didn't really notice the wristy thing... I don't know WTF you were doing the first 10 practice serves you took in the beginning though.

JRS - I do like your service motion, very smooth anti-Becker like.

it ends with an alien head busting out of topez's chest while her spaceship docks with the mothership

where are the videos.

hwood: have you set up bowling thing with JRS?? he's pretty good in b ball too. all power especially down low. i think you 2 should have a decent matchup

Hoops this morning. Played 2 vs. 2 - Lost the first tow and won the last one in overtime. Teamed of with Sap in the second game. I think he nearly passed out. it was 5-10 and the other team need one point to win and Sap was like - I'm done.

Does he have a Jimmy Connors-type forehand like me??? I really need to start hitting a real forehand... or somehow tweak my grandpa-style forehand I currently use to get more pop on it. I just don't want to hurt my arm again.

Sup - Where are the videos? Is it me serving or scratching my ***** again?

No, but his forehand is awesome. Figure the lanky biomechanics mich fit your swing.

Still catching up on this thread......

That serve on set point was an amazing serve. He had been spinning serves in all set, but decides to go for the heat up the T clipping the outside of the line. Good stuff.

Heck - it was 40-15. Might as well go for it. Surprised it went in. I thought my toss was too low.

JRS, you got a nice rhythm on your serve. Good to see.

JRK, can't imaging how much faster/ heavier your serve can get. Sometimes it feels like trying to return a baseball with a racket.

I never noticed how JRS kept his hand and racquet strings together and lifted its up almost to head level.

A little becker set up, but also like Sampras!

Thanks for all the love on the serve. Been working hard on it. Much better than back on the day when all I used to hit were slice serves.

Sup, thanks for the videos. Watching those points made me realize- we didn't have many good points. I mentioned to JRS and Vitaly afterwards, we were all playing singles with four players on the court. Next time- I am actually going to play doubles and advocate a team mentality.

Yeah, we can really work on playing double - teamwork, strategy. IT's too easy to be lazy and just play and not really apporach dubs like you would in a real match.

Haven't seen the vidoes yet, but looking forward to it this weekend.

So you are a Santoro in a Tsonga body.

I still don't remember it. But you do hit the ball with good pace. I can only imagine your game if you relaxed the swing more. Pop!

Yet still you wont hit 110mph forehands.

Actually, ACTA's organization is just fine. The complaints you hear mostly on here are due to decisions made by specific captains.

Oops, I fear my response to Sup's response was somewhat imprecise and therefore subject to misinterpretation. Having no first-hand experience whatsoever with ACTA, I don't know it from ADAM. My amazement came directly from my knowledge of Sup's opinion of RTA.

Sorry to post a misleading statement, Lady Topaz. My focus suffers when I'm depressed. :(

No worries Xisbum...I read your comment correctly! What I know of RTA I know from limited experience and also what others told me, so I was also somewhat surprised by Sup's response...it isn't ACTA's fault that some many....emmm...'colorful' people sign up to be members!!!

So based on the post above. 4 people:

1 says Yeah to ACTA
2 say playing in ACTA bad
1 doesnt post.
1 oops and a guy who gets his registration mailed back..

Bad odds.

Again, nothing is perfect, but ACTA gets little love on these boards. An observation not my experience. ACTA being the org, the captains, the players.. etc. still is about playing tennis so its better than no tennis.

Who, other than JRK, has had a bad playing experience in ACTA? I know I've never said anything like that.

I'll type it slowly to mimic me saying it slowly.

If you read the majority of posts.. repeat post.. regarding ACTA.. it makes one who knows RTA appreciate it more. Why? The characters, the facilities, the league captains, the scheduling (a freaking outdoor tournament in Nov? Thats ACTA right?).. and so forth.

Not that ACTA is bad, its tennis so its worth it. Yet if you hear TheJRK talk about captains, Vitaly talk about hackers, Others talk about the courts ACTA uses, the level of play/rating flux and now the tournament sign up. It kind of sounds bad.

Now you can argue its the peeps in the association not the association itself. Thats laughable, as its the players and organizers that make the experience. Yet again I repeat, all I know is what i see on posts and its mainly NEGATIVE. Hence it makes RTA, which may be expensive, look much better.

Again.. I repeat. It's tennis. So both are better than nothing. Yet the posts don't make it sound better or even with the RTA.

I know Big Frank plays at ACTA cause its convenient with where he works. Yet he says, its not RTA and he talks bluntly about the problems and level of play. Also 2 other USTA tournament players I know complain constantly about ACTA that they wish they could get into something like the RTA or just end up driving out to FRC to get something a little bit better. I'm not a huge fan of RTA, but if I had to chose by feedback, it would win out for me.

Again.. *A theme*. Its all based on the posts. The posts I see don't show a lot of good, unless you call playing at WHS with hackers fun or playing in disorganized teams within ACTA that causes stress. *shrug*. To each their own.

Now to the Cliff Notes:

-People seem to posts about crazy experiences with ACTA that don't give it a good light.

-RTA is not the best, but for someone like me who knows ACTA only by the posts here... I will pick RTA.

-Sup doesn't think RTA is perfect.

-Sup misses Xisbum in the clinics

-Sup still thinks Shcmad hits with moderate (shank) to no spin.

That is all

Topaz,

I have a 3.5 guy who is interested in joining USTA and getting involved. I told him he should contact Ingrid/Homecourt tennis. He did e-mail her but didn't get a reply. Do you have any other suggestions in how he can make some USTA connections?

Thanks,

Sunday Sport and Health Clinic - Starts this Sunday!

Guys,

Will be holding a drop in class at Sport and Health this sunday from 8am-10am.

That gives you time to play, get home, shower, and sit on the couch and watch football.

This clinic is just drills. Work on depth, hitting cross courts, and other strokes.

I believe the prices are @25-30 bucks. I can't be positive as the director is working out details. Still a great bargain for the time on the court.

The max I would take is 6-8 folks. Since this is late notice, I suspect it will be a relatively small class, but its still a lot of hitting at a great price.

So respond or send me an email (sup2dresq@aim.com) so we can reserve your spot.

Sup

P.S. A footwork clinic is in the work. Trainer and all, working on getting faster, agility, reaction and balance. All on the court. Dates TBD.

There has to be a TWMAC member with a company discount. Usually you can get 10-20% off any type of computers.

Maybe we'll see. Maybe it's for the better since my sister-in-law's boyfriend blew my cover on the purchase about a week ago.

Me: Yo what's up?
Boyfriend (BF): James! What's going on? You buy that xbox yet?
Me: Sputter...... oh no.....I haven't ordered one.
Wife: Yeah cause he would have to talk to me about that first!
ME: Sigh........ (Thinking: Thanks man......)

OH - BTW- ACTA.

Liked their old Charity tournament in the spring, but wondering WTF they were thinking when they eliminated singles. Dod they have too many people entered into the tourney?

My experience on the ACTA team wasn't too fun due to:
1. Being stuck with poor mixed partners and expected to win....event though I hadn't played competitive tennis in several years.
2. Capt said he would rotate mens/mixed - never did.

Outside of that, I got no beef.

I've heard other things about ACTA too from a dude from Arlington. He had problems with people on the ladder ducking him or canceling matches when it looked like he would beat them and take their spot.

RTA is cool, but I think non-residents really pay more for the courts than anything else. I think most RTA courts are better than the ACTA courts, plus you have hard-tru. Reston could still use about another 10-12 courts + an indoor facility.

I hate the RTA team tennis format.... but I had more fun playing in that league.

My two cents.

Again.... RTA sounds better if you look at the posts. Even your experience (ala post) would get me to think twice if i had to choose between the RTA and ACTA.

Also helps the major local tournaments are in Reston. +1.

P.S. JRS, you rocked the cages, but when are you getting the blue sleeveless?

Xbox and Nike purchases are on hold. Had no choice on the cages. My older blue ones were worn out.

BTW- I should count my blessings. The wife did approve the HD TV purchase.

Later - Think I'm going to watch Iron man.

Student Dies in Eating Competition
http://www.yumsugar.com/2426275

also, i have started binge eating myself!
has anyone else ever been to Il Mee buffet?

http://www.yelp.com/biz/il-mee-buffet-restaurant-annandale

I heard mixed things, but given that I was in the mood to eat
MASS QUANTITIES of food, I had to check it out.
I ate kalbi/bulgogi/pork/chicken/shrimp... then had some decent//mediocre sushi (but pretty good for AllYouCanEat place as long as you ignored the ones with fake crabstick in them) and had some panchan and beer followed by some subpar tempura shrimp and veggies, before deciding to "really get my money's worth" by going back for a lot more beef. I slapped a couple pounds of raw beef on a plate and the server cooked it up for me.
I was slowing down, so I had to walk around the buffet a couple times to shift the food in my ever-expanding guy before coming back and chomping down the rest. All of the meats were pretty tasty, and at 11pm they pretty much kicked me out. But not before I took some ice cream for the road.
The toughest part was trying to get a refill on my water glass, but I thought it might just take up space in the gut, so I didn't mind too much.
For $20 bucks, I ate about 10lbs of meat.

WOW! How much does that Burger weigh?????

Domination of the Fake 3.5 league continues. I had to play a sub tonight, but still came out with a 6-2, 6-2 win. The guy wasn't too bad, decent serve and volleys, but he was inconsistent and rusty. Think the league ends next week or the week after.

Anyone watch the Paris masters today? Me and Baby Bri watched it/napped through part of it. Good win for Tsonga. Looked like Nalby got off to a slow start in the first, upped his game in the second, but Tsonga just pulled it out in the third set. Hope he can stay healthy in Shanghai.

Sup -- you put on a nice clinic. nice if you like sadistic torture for 2 hours that you then have to pay for. i did appreciate that you let me take a 5 minute breather at one point -- until i realized you probably just don't have insurance and didn't want me going into cardiac arrest (at least not on your court).

all that running and hitting was useful though. 1 - my arm and elbow after you mentioned my forehand stroke was off and causing arm pain -- feels pretty darn good. not sore. 2 - i'm now motivated to go run my fat azz back into shape. 2 hours of drills with sup and topaz killed me. i'm pretty sure after the first 15 minutes i was sucking wind. topaz while breathing heavily (not sure if it was the running or the excitement of having me on the court) could've probably done another 2 hour session. but then again she is like 10 years younger than i am and doesn't have a sedentary desk job.

JRstreaker -- i'll bring my gear tomorrow/wed with me to work. if the weather holds up i wouldn't mind hitting. might have to go in for a follow up exam though. we'll see.

what's for lunch people? oh side note Sup -- if i did that chipotle burrito contest AFTER your clinic -- i would've won. i ate an obscene amount of food when i got home.
