cool, sounds like some good tennis, wouldn't USC be the favorite #4 and at home, although Stanford is #5 so not much difference...should be close.

Its hard to say Stanford has the edge at USC. Hard to say anyone has the edge playing at USC with the crowd throwing bagels, frozen marshmallows, water balloons on the court. But maybe the point penalties for the crowd behavior will help Stanford this time..

LOL, they really throw bagels ??? Hopefully, Stanford can give them a few, right back....:)

UCLA is struggling badly. Against Baylor last weekend, neither Harel Srugo nor Holden Seguso were able to play. If they don't get healthy ASAP, they are underdogs to Stanford.

The only health concern at USC has been Mateusz Kecki. If he is 100%, USC would have a slight edge over Stanford.

Alex down a break in the 1st set. Alex seem to be the dominant player but giving away some points on unforced errors at the moment..

Question. How, exactly, is it domination, if "Standford" only won by one match, which was won in a third-set tiebreaker? For me, 7-0 or 6-1 is domination, while 4-3 is the closest the score can possibly be. Care to explain your (lack of) logic?

Not exactly dominating. I think the absence of Abdullah Magdas in singles for USC (he would usually be #4) had a big effect on the bottom half of the lineup.

UCLA is in even worse shape than USC as far as health goes. Stanford should win that one handily. The interesting matches will be later in the year at Palo Alto if USC and UCLA come in 100% healthy.

Very good win for Stanford against USC. Nice to see them back in shape.

Fedace, where can you watch the match against ucla? I cannot seem to find a free live cast on the net...

EPIC WIN over UCLA. Another Hero emerges from the ashes of UCLA tennis stadium. His name is Matt Bruch. This does it. Now Stanford is definitely the favorite to win the NCAA in May.

Well, Bruch beat Seguso in a 3rd set tiebreaker. With Seguso coming off injury and not playing much, and Harel Srugo out of the singles lineup entirely, I am surprised the match was only 4-3 Stanford. If UCLA gets healthy they will be the best in the Pac 10.

^^Now that Stanford has improved their doubles, They are practically unbeatable. I can't see anyone beating them for the rest of the season.

A good win, but the rest of the field (Stanford included) has to hope that UCLA is not healthy in May.

Not sure how a 4-3 win over UCLA makes Stanford the favorite over Virginia and Ohio State, who both beat UCLA at the indoors.

UCLA just didn't look like they were into it at ITA indoors. It was little strange. maybe a Jetlag ??

yes, and srugo still managed to win his doubles set with a cast on his non dominant wrist. good playing by both teams too.

When did Matt hook Seguso ? In the Tiebreaker ? At that stage of the match, guys want to win so bad, they start seeing things. It is Umpire's job to overrule any obvious bad calls. If it is extremely close call, then you take it for what it is worth.

i started watching seguso's court around the 2nd set. I saw multiple complaints by seguso to the umpire about bruch's calls. on 3 of the bad calls i was actually there for, only 1 was overruled by the umpire. On all three, i was certain they were in. no complaints on calls during either tiebreaker.

Unfortunately, Matt Bruch has been accused of hooking a few calls here and there during his career. but then this is common place in College tennis. They have Umpires to limit this kind of poor sportsmanship but it still does take place.

Just wanted to say hi to fellow SoCal tennis folk. I was at UCLA today as well - so was Sam Querry just for the folks that might be interested.

So where do you live? You play I take it. Always looking for good people to hit with.

Switch the places of the word "them" and "anyone" and your post will be correct. Unfortunately, as it is now, it's a fallacy. It should read:

I can't see them beating anyone for the rest of the season.

Unfortunately, Matt Bruch has been accused of hooking a few calls here and there during his career. but then this is common place in College tennis. They have Umpires to limit this kind of poor sportsmanship but it still does take place.

Don't make excuses. You weren't there, this guy was. This guy saw your favorite player cheat, end of story. You can say it's commonplace or what not, but it's clear that Bruch cheated, and won while cheating. When Bruch won, "Standford" won because the team had enough wins to clinch the final point. If Bruch had lost, "Standford" would have lost. Just goes to show that your boy is a cheater and isn't the god you act like he is.

Just for the record - the level of play all around from both schools was not all that great. No one was playing like a "god" on any of those courts - and yes, there were some questionable calls.

This is college tennis afterall. Alex Clayton back on winning track after dropping his match against USC #1. Alex seem to be the better player against all opponent he played so far. He just can't keep his concentration level up for the duration of the match. He will go on this mental holiday in the middle of 1st set or beginning of 2nd set and make 5-6 silly errors in a row and just hands the match over at times. This has to stop if he is to win the NCAA crown as he is expected to do.

"As he is expected to"?????? By whom?

Only by him. FedAce thinks Clayton, Thacher, Klahn and Bruch will place 1-4 at the NCAAs if they play their best. Their wins this weekend were impressive, but not enough to make them favorites for anything. There are plenty of other teams doing just as well or better.

My favorite comments are when Stanford wins a nailbitter, 4-3, and he claims domination, thrashing, or the like. The better choice would be, they barely got by.

There's another Top 10 matchup today, Baylor vs. Ohio State(my 2 favorite teams!) Baylor is riding the recent victory over #9 Ole Miss, but I predict OSU at 5-2. OSU is on a 79-match home win streak at the moment. Live stats will be on OSU's site.

^^I really hope one day in the future, Ohio state will get a Webcam on their tennis court. They have many talented players and they are fun to watch. I am also Impressed by Northwestern men's team this year. I know they are not in the class of OSU but the improvements they made this year over last year is Impressive.. they only lose 1 match this year, i believe.

Alex isn't expected to do anything. He's not #1. Or #2, or #3. He's the fourth highest pick to win it all, not the top. There are players that are much better than he is, and he shouldn't be expected to do anything outside of lose, lose, and lose some more.

"As he is expected to"?????? By whom?

By a delusional idiot who lacks common sense and a brain.

Those calls weren't that close, Seguso was definitely hooked about 3 times in the course of that match but by the ref

I can't believe a ref would be biased toward Stanford in UCLA home courts.

Are you talking about fan repercussion? The guy was jeered three times, I don't think he cared. I'm not saying he was biased, but three overrules in favor of Stanford on pretty clear shots, I'm curious as to whether he was watching the ball or not.

Maybe he had a history with Holden Seguso. Holden doesn't exactly have the best reputation with umpires. He is very firey, and can explode with temper. Breaking rackets, Cursing and what have you. That doesn't exactly help you earn brownie points with Umps.

that's not holden's style of temper... anyways, we are not sure if the umpire was biased but he definitely wasn't overrulling mood. let's just leave it at that. ucla will play stanford in march and the match will be even tighter because ucla should be healthy by then.

Nice 7-0 win for OSU over #10 Baylor. Extends their home win streak to 80.

That's domination. 4-3 against a team ranked with a one spot difference in rankings isn't domination, especially if the final match was won in a third set breaker.
