Anybody try Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA?

I had the 60 minute IPA a few times, but I had the pleasure of trying the 90 minute IPA at a wine bar recently. For some reason, I started getting the giggles at the start of my 2nd beer. It was at that point when I looked at the alcohol content of 9%! Delicious beer, but be careful...

Wow, I'm really surprised you were able to drink the 60. Did you spill a lot trying to find the drinking sweet spot? I'm sure you'll have trouble with the 90 too so next time you should just go ahead and move up to the 100. You'll be amazed at how much easier the 100 is to drink.:)

Dogfish Head is an excellent brewery - the 90 minute is excellent; the India Brown is also excellent.

Try some Lagunitas brew - Copper Ale, the IPA and the Pils are all killer, similarly excellent and probably my 2 favorite US breweries.

IPAs? serious beer sampler here. :)

of the IPAs Dogfish is very good but not my first pick for the money. Lagunitas is a little weak. Stone is very good. Sweetwater has a nice flavor somewhat grapefruity. Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA also good and priced nice too. At present Titan IPA is tops on my list (recently shipping to CFL :) ).

btw - there are so many good microbrews that don't ship to Central Florida. during your travels sampling some local IPAs makes for a more enjoyable outing, as i have experienced.

I'm not a big fan of the Stone IPA. My 2nd favorite IPA is Long Hammer. Where can I get your avatar's Titan IPA in central Florida?

My current ladyfriend brought over some Long Hammer the other night - it's fantastic.

I'm actually homebrewing an IPA right now - it's in the primary fermenter until Sunday, then it gets transferred and dry hopped for 2 weeks, and then into bottles. :)

ABC recently started stocking a couple brew styles from GDB including Titan. good stuff...suggest moderation with those highly hopped brews.

btw - one 6 pak of Stone is enough for me...unless they are giving it away. Sierra Nevada is better and cheaper too.

My brother in law does the home brew thing. He has created some fantastic beers over the years.

I just buy the kits from Middle-West Brewing Supplies located here in Mpls. My ex bought me the setup for Christmas....I've done 2 batches so far.

One thing is for certain - the pleasure in making beer is only surpassed by the pleasure in consuming beer. :)

also not a fan of Stone IPA, a waste of a really nice bottle :). Haven't tried many yet but my fav so far is Racer5 by Bear Republic and their Red Rocket is nice too. Will have to try the others.

Sorta hijack but I'm liking Samuel Smith Imperial Stout. Comments?

Tried the Titan IPA this weekend. I must say, bad_call has an appropriate username for his taste in beers. :) Not a big fan of the flavor.

been a good while since switching to hoppier brews, but a superb brew IMO. also the Oatmeal Stout is delicious.

mikeler - also had the Denver Pale Ale from same makers of Titan. too bad it's not available in our neighborhood. nice taste with less hopps intensity.

I've tried the Oatmeal Stout and altho I liked it, I much prefer the IS over the OS. At $10 a 4 pack, I've been slow to try the rest of the SS line and kept going back to the IS.

Another I keep going back to is Salvator Double Bock.

They had one beer, it was on their "special" menu. I can't remember what it was called but it was 15% alcohol.

But yeah, I've had the 90. I usually drink the 60 though since I think it tastes better. Also, the crab soup is money at Dogfish Head restaurant.

that's why i don't buy SS. will have to check out the Salvator. is it a smooth brew? i may wait til it cools down some before getting a Bock tho. like the lighter brews like Pale Ale and such when temps are in the 90's.

at least Salvator is only $8 a sixpack. For hot weather, how about Lost Coast's Great White. If you like Hoegaarden, I think you'll like GW much more.

pardon me for being a bit picky. like some Witbiers but not fond of Hoegaarden. have a bottle of LC 8 Ball in the fridge...which is ok but not great IMO. haven't been too impressed with LC. that said, on hot days like today a frosty Bud Lite Lime hits the spot. go figure...

guess this is turning to a beer thread. apologies mikeler.

I was looking forward to having a 90 minute brew last weekend but the place where I normally get it was out of it. The Titan is pretty intense, a little bit too much for my liking. Am I still drinking it? Of course, life is too short to waste beer. :)

Try The Dogfish Head World Wide Stout

I've have had the Dogfish Head 60, 90 & 120 Minute IPAs and they are all excellent and pack a wallop. The 90 minute is 9% abv and the 120 is 20% abv. It's not cheap, but if you ever see the Dogfish Head World Wide Stout (currently 18% abv), treat yourself to a bottle (no they don't come in 6 packs.)

I had the Sam Adams Triple Bock over a decade ago. That stuff was around 20% alcohol I think. It was nasty. I'm not ever drinking beer that strong again!

I just bottled up my IPA homebrew last week.....waiting for it to carbonate. Initial testing shows that it is definitely a mouf'-hurtin' brew.

In other news, my new favorite warm weather beer has to be the Widmer Drifter pale ale. Just enough hop flavor to excite the palate, but nice and smooth on the way down.

And for folks who have access to Summit beers, their new Horizon Red is FANTASTIC. A bit tough to find right now, but supply should meet demand sometime soon.

Dogfish Head is an excellent brewery - the 90 minute is excellent; the India Brown is also excellent.

Lagunitas is a wonderful IPA. I've been drinking a bit too much of it lately, though. ;)

Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA also good and priced nice too.

I tried a Torpedo last night - found it to be waaay too sweet - almost had a candy-sugar flavor to it. What I'd consider a "people-friendly" IPA - the sweet definitely seems to offset the hop flavor.

Torpedo is not sweet if you drink other sweet beers. if you don't regularly drink anything other than IPA's than the torpedo certainly is a sweet beer.

I think the same thing about Furthermore's Three Feet Deep stout - a smoked stout that is FANTASTIC and goes really well with grilled and barbequed foods.

Dogfish 90 minute is a winner in my book. I started buying it by the case.`
Also have enjoyed Racer5 (Bear Republic) as someone else mentioned.
Another similar tast which is excellent is West Coast IPA (green colored labels).
I agree Lagunitas (standard) IPA is somewhat weak, but I had a Lagunitas Corination Ale the other day on draft, and at 7%, it was actually very very good. Lagunitas Hop Stoopid (despite its name) is also an excellent brew!
I'm into the Belgian style beers myself, but during the warmer/hot summer weather, I tend to go with IPAs.

Oh, forgot to mention my current favorite beer on which to splurge is Flying Dog Double Dog Double Pale Ale. 11.5% ABV. Dee-lish.

i got crazy and bought packs of:
60 minute
90 minute
120 minute
raison d'etra
indian brown
midas touch
palo santo
immort
aprihop

Dogfish definitely puts more care into their craft than most breweries.
hrmmm, getting thirsty.

for me, after trying all of those beers, the 60 minute is an excellent beer with a lot more depth and flavors than other ipas, and is "good enough" for me. so i've stocked up on it. i plan on drinking quite a few tomorrow! woooo

Bought a 4 pack of the 90 minute at ABC liquor just a few minutes ago. Can't wait to get home tonight.

If you like Dogfish Head 90 Minute, try the "Raisson d'Etre". (Also by Dogfish Head.)

I've only tried the 60 min. IPA, not the 90 min. but definitely like the DH Raison d'Etre! A little pricey at 9.99 per six at our local HEB grocery, but worth it, IMO. 8% ABV & good in a pewter stein. Also a fan of the Flying Dog Double-Dog ale mentioned by Douggo, though two bottles of that stuff is pretty much the equivalent of a bottle of Cabernet in alc. content...

I think the 90 minute is definitely better than the 60 minute.

Not sure, Senor Douggo. I have always enjoyed a good brew, but of late, have really gotten into trying new beers and learning about homebrewing. I've done 3 batches so far, and am in the planning stages of batch #4.

Horizon Red is fantastic, BTW. :)

Batch #3 is an IPA. It's still bottle conditioning - complex brews like IPA's take longer to mature. Initially, it's a bit too stiff and I'm not a huge fan of the Goldings hops I used to dry hop it, but overall palate-wise, it's good. Really strong. I'm hoping that it matures nicely through the summer.

I've since tried Torpedo IPA (great) and Long Hammer (ok but great for the price $12/12pack). Dogfish and Lagunitas next.

Gotta throw some props towards Bells Two Hearted IPA tonight. I've had it before at a local bar, but forgot how good it was. At $11/6 pack at the local Publix it better be! 7% alcohol, so nice kick but not quite as strong as Dogfish Head 90 Minute.
