Monday's schedule of play

FedEx23

Semi-Pro
If Nadal will not be opening play on Monday like all the depending champions do on Centre Court, who will play there instead? Will Federer play? I'm concerned because I have Centre Court tickets for Friday June 26th, and I know the players play every other day. So who plays monday is who I will most likely see on Friday. Any thoughts?

I believe that Del Potro will play on Monday on CC and they are not going to change the days the draw plays.

I think Del Potro was in the bottom half now he's definately in the top half. I can see the Federer detractors moaning about this.

I think it would affect Tuesday, and not Monday. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure the women's defending champ opens CC on day 1, and the men's opens CC on day 2.

It didn't take long to get an official word on the subject:

Nadal's absence will cause a reshuffle in the men’s singles draw. Nadal's place will be taken by fifth seed Juan Martin Del Potro. Del Potro's place will be taken by the 17th seed James Blake. Blake's place will be taken by Jose Arguso of Argentina and a lucky loser will fill Arguso's spot.

ahhh see?They changed it :http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/articles/2009-06-19/200906191245395523523.html

now they say kiefer!Soo many mistakes by wimby!!!:rolleyes:

well..the first day it is supposed to be the defending champion..since he doesn't participate..someone else would get the honour anyway..:/ but the down side of the draw,starts the second day,so no way that changes.
maybe they will put murray on!lol

no, mens defending champ always opens up play on the 1st Monday. womens champ gets Tuesday.

In '02 when Goran couldn't defend, Sampras(the '00 champ) got to start off the tournament.

So, I think its pretty likely that Fed will be 1st on on Monday.

Yes.

Wimbledon is all about tradition. I can't see Juan Martin Del Potro getting the 'honor' of breaking in the grass on Center Court just because he gets Nadal's spot in the draw. Draws & orders of play aren't related.

the change in the draw according to the rules is:
Nadal--> Del Potro
Del Potro-->Blake
Blake-->Kiefer
Kiefer-->LL

;-I I'll take your word for it. Tomorrow and then the day after, the schedule should be released by then.

If there's a precedent(?),and has happened before,as Moose says,then I'm sure you will get to see Federer FedEx.

I'm kinda torn between who I want to see. I have CC tickets for the Friday, I am a huge fan of both Murray and Federer, but I've already seen Murray play in Davis Cup so i think I would like to see Federer, possibly on his way to the GS record.

Not a big deal but I thought it should be Kiefer instead Arguso. Why Arguso?

Yeah i'm interested in this also. I'm going on Thursday, Friday and then the second Monday. Hopefully it will all be clear when they put the schedule out on Sunday(?)

still don't understand ... why would they not put murray in nadal's place?

what difference would that make? Murray was already in Nadal's half.

The important thing is that none of the 4 highest ranked players in the draw could meet before the semis. Del Potro is now the 4th highest ranked player in the draw, so he had to be moved to Nadal's section.

If Murray was in Fed's half I could understand complaints. Because then we could have had a semi with the 2 highest ranked players in the tournament.

And they couldn't have moved him under the rules.

I think some fans here get too caught up in the number next to the seeds. should look
more at number groups(1-4, 5-8, etc) Keeping those groups away from each other is more imporant than the order you are in that group.
