Parents to be proud of

In a USTA Team Tennis local playoff finals match recently one team had a girl who was recovering from ankle surgery and had her lower leg in a boot/cast. She was playing in this final match so as to have played enough to qualify to play in the district championship (by which time she will have had the boot removed).

The opposing team tried to get the tournament officials to disqualify her, saying it was against the rules to wear a boot. When the officials refused, they then tried to get the facility to prohibit her from playing on the grounds that the boot might damage the court. The boot has a rubber sole, so the facility refused to ban her.

What a fine example these parents set to their kids. Let's all remember now - it is the winning that counts, no matter how you get that win.

In an appropriately happy ending, boot-girl won her (mixed doubles) match.

Why did her parents even let her play until she was completely rehabbed?
Am I wrong in thinking that she shouldn't have been playing so soon?

(And of course I think was weak of the other team to try and disqualify her.)
