That is rather funny in how similar to Federer's situation. Mirka was pregnant, then married Federer.

However, I did not know Wawrinka had a girlfriend before this.

Doesn't she look old already? I hope she loses a lot of weight after the baby and not let herself go.

I don't know..He's only 24 and the wife is pregnant..it seems a little rushed decision to me.

Congrats Stan....
On a side note....does anybody remember the "celebration" that Fed did to Stan after the Olympic dubs win? The, sure looked like, applying the hands all over the body bit? I've always wondered about those two....not that there's anything wrong with that:oops:

His wife is 35, eleven years older than him. It's a wise decision to have your kids at that age at the latest, so I can well understand the decision. :)

ohhhh!wow really? And they have been dating for 4 years.Yes,perfect age and timing for her..not so much for Stan.I have my doubts about thsi decision ..but on the other hand Stan seems such quiet, serious and steady personality so who knows.

His wife was some sort of model and tv persona.

Yeah, I think 24 is very young to become a dad. In my country nearly no guy actually considers it before he's at least thirty!
But well, they've been dating for a very long time, so I guess he knows her well enough to marry her and have a kid together. Stan must be a wise guy for his age, indeed. :)

Im not trying to judge, but why wait to get married when the baby bumps the worst?

Either do it before like 3 - 4 mths or do it after the baby's born.

And in the pics Stan looks like he just got home from a day in the office :):)

I saw this chick taking tons of pics of Wawrinka in his 1st round match at the USO in 08. She was like a professional photographer--she must've taken hundreds of pics.

It was on one of the outer courts and she was walking all around the bleachers to get good views of the match.

She looked quite good back then...very thin, unlike Mirka. I would think she'll return to form. She couldn't have been more than mid 20's.

Quiet wedding for Stanislas Wawrinka
Switzerland’s second ranking tennis star and Olympic gold medallist Stanislas Wawrinka has married his long-term partner, Ilham Vuilloud.
The private civil ceremony took place on December 12, Vuilloud – herself a television presenter – told a local television programme on Monday.

“We shall celebrate our union in a church ceremony with lots of guests when our child (due in February) is able to carry our rings,” she said.

Wawrinka is 24 years old, and his new wife is 11 years older. He currently stands 21st in the ATP world tennis rankings.

Switzerland’s number one tennis star, Roger Federer, married his partner Mirka in April. She gave birth to twin girls in July.

Wow, she's a whole lot older than Stan. I completely understand why she would want to have kids now but I hope that it works out ok for Stan. He's still got another 5 or 6 years on tour and now that he's going to be a dad, it could affect his ability to concentrate on the game.

The reason why Wawrinka is in a rush to get marry b/c he got his girlfriend pregnant.

Wow Wawrinka looks like he has just rolled out of bed on his wedding day. Scruffy beard and top button undone on his shirt, did he sleep in his wedding suit?

It could, but doesn't necessarilly have to. I wish them all the best, both with the family life & Stan's further career.

What's with swiss men and chubby women ? hmm...

Too blunt to notice that she's seven months pregnant? :?

The Netherlands.
Nah, of course 'accidents' happen over here as well ;). But in general, folks are rather 'old' over here when they start considering having kids. The average age for women is close to 30, and for men, quite a bit beyond that.

Ah yes, remember when his website described her as his concubine? LOL

That was a translation mistake. The French word 'concubine' just means 'girlfriend', whereas in anglo-american countries, it has quite a negative subtext...

They look like a great couple. Stan's lucky to have met such a pretty, established and obviously smart woman., and she to have met and decided to spend her life with this great tennis player and nice guy. Lucky for them and for the soon to be born baby. Bon Chance to them in their new life together.

Thats not a rush. 7 months isnt a rush. A rush is what Federer did.
He finds out his GF is pregnant in Fed or March and gets married in May.

Next time there is a therd like this there should be 2 threads. Posters who are/ have been/ pregnant/partners ate pregnant/ older women/ older men/have /have had/ a steady partner etc.

And another thread for speculators of the above and have comments but lack first hand (so to speak) experience to back up their comments.

I think the threads would be quite different...and most interesting.

the baby was planned "long ago", federer said in an interview. but 2008 would've been a bad year with the olympics.

and where is the problem of marrying when you become parents? it's not like you have to do this before you get a child. I say it is pretty common here (in Switzerland) to have a child without being married.

Of course. It's like that in a LOT of European countries nowadays. And why not, I dare ask.

It's the common thing to do among most of the better educated folks in Europe nowadays. All of the legal consequences dealt with in time. No prob eh. It's called 'common sense' over here. ;)

There are no "legal consequences" in Canada. He/she child has all rights as a Canadian citizen from moment of birth, and after 3 years in a relationship any couple is considered in the eyes of the tax man married as well as in a court of law in case they split and there is a division of assets/child custody etc. case.

I won't even get into the historical/religious rationale for marriage but in 2009 marriage makes no practical /advantageous sense.
