Gosen 18g - breaks too easily

it's a nice string. not much thinner than the 17g. i used to break the gosen 17gs (65lbs) every 4 matches. But the Gosen 18 g only lasted 1 match at 48lbs.

nice string but not worth the pain.

It's $2 a set. If you like it that much I would stick with it. If you string your racquets it would be a pain yes. I look at it this way. Whatever makes me play my best or makes me get better is what I need no matter how much the pain of stringing racquets or money.

I agree. I was just surprised that it broke so quickly at such a low tension. the 17g definitely lasted longer.

How much more do you like the 18 then the 17 or do you like the 17 better? If your anything like me and play 5-8 hours a day during the summer you would be restrining 3-5 frames every 2-3 days. Which I would go with the 17 because string racquets would take to much of time that I could be spending on court.

Do you string your own racquets? If you do and you don't play that often go with the 18 if you like it better. If not the 17 is the way to go.

I'm curious about this string as I've become extremely happy with a full bed of Gosen 17g at 50# in a YT Radical MP. I can get several hours out of the 17g with the dense 18x20 string pattern. What racquet and pattern are you using with the 18g to have such a short lifespan?

I used the same racket for both the 17g and the 18g.

I am using 18g as crosses on thicker mains. It works pretty good.

so if you get 18g, you can cross them with 17g as mains.

don't use 18g as mains. they really break fast.

Thanks, I think I will give it a try. What tensions have you settled on using it as a cross?

I am using some 16g co-poly mains at 50 and 48 for the gosen 18s.

definitely less control than 18g fullbed. but it feels very comfortable. makes me want to try 18g poly mains and 18 crosses. must be nice.

Gosen is great stuff, I use 18g but am not a stringbreaker, although if you do string your own, it is cheap enough to afford. Also my favorite setup is Black code in the mains and the Gosen in the crosses. very nice.

right, price/performance. It's what our society is missing these days. I would never pay over 30 bucks for a Volkl PowerBridge PB 10 . it's a piece of junk.

maybe its just cause you suck and cant use it.
And you cant argue the fact that syn guts are the bottom of the string ladder. If you can't, you are an idiot. The only reason you think its good is because you're too poor to afford anything else.

ok, i agree the volkl may be too much of a stick for me. no feel, unstable, and light. my current stick is heavier than that piece of junk.

so is being poor a reason for one person to look down on another person? this is what wrong with our society. the bankers are rich. they are ripping us off. but we don't look down on them. instead, we got people on tv talking **** about the poor people in haiti.

and i assume you like obama cuz he wants redistribution.
Currently the top 10% of moneymakers n the U.S. pay for 80% of the tax money taken. Is that fair?
After bush's tax cut expires and the medical care bill is passed almost 60% of income will be taken as tax instead of the 50% now by those 10%.
Bankers are not ripping you off, the gov is. You make 100 bux and the gov takes half. is that fair? dont talk **** about rich people. You are what is wrong with our society.

if the volkl is such a bad stick, then why did chris and danny switch to it? are you saying they are idiots?

Banks do rip people off, middle - lower class people b/c they they generate revenue from overdraft fees by manipulating transactions, which in turn leads to more OD fees.

back on topic

I have always used Gosen 17G and it is the best synthetic you can get, regardless of cost in my opinion.. I tried 18G gosen and when stringing, it snapped on my last cross....there were no kinks or anything....

When I restrung I went out and snapped it after 2 sets at 3:00 grommet..
I know it was an off-center hit but still......
I use 17G and it lasts me for a month before I pull out...never breaks...

just my .02

I know this is an old post but I have to reply.

I tried the Power Bridge 10 by Volkl and it was amazing. There was feel and power to it. Normally I use a heavier racket. A Wilson Pro Staff from the '90s that is a lot heavier than the PB 10. I was making shots I could not believe. I just think it comes down to personal preference. If you don't like it that's fine but that does not necessarily mean that it's junk. It's just not for you. But that's your choice to call it junk I suppose.

Oh really? So what's at the top of the string ladder? Polyester? Or is it just whatever you use?

Lest you forget, tennis is a PERSONAL sport. What is junk for you is somebody else's gift to mankind.

And, just for future reference, your rhetoric is absolutely illogical. Your ad hominem attacks have no place in a logical argument. The use of such a childish device speaks wonders about you.

Throwing around insults at people on an ANONYMOUS board is incredibly childish, cowardly, and uncalled for. Stop flaming.

18g syngut breaks quickly? Who'da thunk it!

It still makes a nice cross for 18g poly in a dense pattern.
I use Head PPS 18 for those rare occasions.

Gosen 17g is one of the best all-around crosses ever.
Definitely belongs in the Price/Performance Hall of Fame, along with PSGO, Gamma orig Syngut16, and Isospeed Baseline.
