Argentinean Guillermo Canas has hung up his tennis racquet at the age of 32 due to a recurring right wrist injury.
The former world number eight, who has won seven career ATP titles, announced his retirement at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Friday, the same tournament where he upset top-ranked Roger Federer in 2007.
He also saw off Federer when they met at Indian Wells earlier that same month, bringing the Swiss player's 41-match winning run to an end.
Canas, who recently opened his own academy in Key Biscayne, has not competed in an ATP tour event since last July.
"I wanted to be 100% sure when I made the announcement," said Canas.
"I tried again at the US Open and I felt too much pain. I played two exhibitions in Argentina in December, but it was not good. My wrist just won't let me play.
"I wanted to do it in my country (official retirement) but it was hard, but I think here (Miami) is a good place.
"I have good memories here and I now have my own academy."
Without doubt his greatest moment was beating Federer @ Indian Wells a few years, probably all he'll be remembered for, still, better than most...
