During the Monte Carlo final, Robbie Koenig mentioned that Rafa was using a "new string"; does anyone know what this is and what string gauge and tension he's using?

Rafa never used Bab PHT he always used Bab Duralast which they did not sell here until recently. Bab re-packaged Rafa's string for a while and labeled it PHT-Nadal to sell PHT here in the states.
Rafa is now using RPM Blast 15L @ 54-55lbs (along with Tsonga and Roddick, but Roddick changed back to PHT and NG) which will be on sale here in the states very shortly (May timeframe). However, our tests of this string found that it does not hold tension very well at all especially after the 4-6hr period. Plays really well before then though, good spin and power. I still prefer Tec Black Code or Volkl Cyclone, but that's just me.

I was part of the TW playtest and definitely agree with your thoughts on it. But even though it's lost alot of tension, it still plays decently for me.

Why do you guys think he and Tsonga change rackets every 30 mins?
I have posted on "string and stringing" that it loses a lot of tension and moves a lot,and it's nothing really special.Black Code,BB Ace,Signum Pro hextreme,MSV Hex,Signum PB Tornado,many WeissCannon co-polyester will perform well and hold the tension better,some will give you more spin ,some less.

Someone else on this forum cant remember in which thread wrote that he had a set of Nadals new black string, and that string was in fact not RPM Blast but something different. I believe that to be true, another member here purchased one of his rackets in an auction for charity, and the black string in that racket was not marked the same way as RPM Blast, in fact i think they said pro hurricane or something like that. My guess is hes new string is something that is not yet for sale......

I like the PH and PHT. They seem to hold up and give a lot of spin for a 3.5 player. Although after a horrible winter in NY and not playing for almost 2 months, both strings felt a bit too stiff and unresponsive the first time out. The 2nd time was a bit better
Any recommendations on a great "spin string" that might be a bit less stiff?

Nadal's reel reads "Power," without the "RPM Blast" that appears on other pro's reels. The printing on the string identifies it as Pro Hurricane Tour 135. Labeling aside, the shape seems to be the same as RPM Blast -- that is, octagonal.

Nadal used and uses still maybe Duralast TOUR. The TOUR is the only version of Duralast that came in the yellow. Which is more transparent than the Hurricane strings. Anyways the Tour is available on the e Bay if anyone is interested in trying what he for sure used for a long time at least. Hey they worked for him, that's for sure...
