How to keep mind off food.

wanna start a diet, do any of you know a way to block out the appetite, to stop eating junk food, or even eat alot, i mean all i think about is eating atleast like 2 times an hour, i need a way to ignore food to the point i dont care to eat, except for when i have to.

maybe keep small snacks with you that are healthy but fill you up.. could cut up carrot sticks to chew on or something like that..

weigh yourself each morning.. can keep you motivated once you start seeing the weight drop.. or if the weight starts going up, can keep you more diligent

Drink a lot of water. That worked for me when I wanted to lose a few pounds. It really makes you lose your appetite. I used to drink between 2-3L of water everyday. Now I drink about 1-1.5L.

People come to my office and say "I have A.D.D., how about some Adderal" because they really want to lose weight (Adderal is amphetamine, an appetite suppressant.)

+1

Although I've never tried/needed to lose weight, drinking a lot of liquids does fill me up and make me lose my appetite. Chewing sugar-free gum might help as well, you are still chewing on something but not eating anything. Also, it is important to not hold back on eating too much. During your normal, daily meals, eat until you are content. Just make sure you choose the salad over that tasty burger :)

i always eat breakfast though, everyday i eat 4 eggs and 6-7 slices of bacon.

This is pretty important. Not that you said you do or don't drink water, water does not cause the body to react to eatting. If you drink anything else, your body responds with "it's time to eat" and when you don't you just want food.

The other thing that helps me is to eat some protein for breakfast.

Here's a tip: eat healthy, satisfying food before yummy food, for example, eat a healthy salad during lunch, but before eating whats for lunch, like meat, etc, so you'll start to fill up, eat bran cereal in the morning before having your eggs and whatnot, for the same reason, and in between meals, learn to eat some fruit, baby carrots, peanuts, instead of doritos et. al., its not about not eating, its about eating well. You will learn to eat well, your body will learn it too and you will feel better cause you will be putting good stuff in it! Drink a lot of water and natural drinks, like lemonade, etc, say goodbye to softdrinks. This last thing is a toughie if youre used to having them regularly cause they are addictive, it was tough for me, I used to drink at least one glass of Coke a day, but once a couple of weeks pass and you dont have any, you dont feel the craving anymore and even when you have an occasional Coke, its not as good as it was before.

eat foods/ snacks that are high in proteins, that will help curve those hunger thoughts. I just recently started doing Herbalife and its all about good (healthy snacking) snacks. Almonds, fruit, cottage cheese, egg whites, peanut butter, protein bars, etc.

This is all great advice.

If you don't start the day with a reasonable breakfast like cereal you will feel hungry the whole day. Same for not skipping lunch and dinner. And that salad trick to fill you up works at dinner too.

Especially on a diet, you should eat food you like. Your "diet" should really be the blueprint for how you eat for the rest of your life. And assume it's going to a be a long life that you will enjoy, and that good healthy food will be part of that enjoyment.

Tips:

1. Buy a lot of food flavorings, spices, etc. It can be as simple as garlic powder and Italian seasoning, but one of my favorites is Chef Prudhomme's Blackened Redfish Magic that makes any fish taste like Luisianna home cookin' just by sprinkling a little on: http://www.chefpaul.com/site.php?pageID=365&iteminfo=1&productID=8

2. Become "King of the Grill". You don't need sauces/butter when you grill meat and lots of vegatables with a littel Pam. Peppers and onions, sliced squash with just garlic powder/Italian seasoning/butter flavored Pam, use your imagination. Lean chicken, fish, sirloin steak tips, lean burgers all cook up in minutes.

3. Doghnuts, bacon, and sugary soft drinks and desserts have got to be considered "poison".

4. A few grapes and whetever berries are in season make a great desert or snack.

good bacon is good for you. it's low in calories and it's got protein, something those grains lack considerably. bacon is mostly monounsaturated fat (olive oil) anyway, like 60%, even more if the bacon is not garbage quality

Why that's just crazy talk. When you are on a diet you need to:

1) Eat in an extreme manner. For example, only eat diet spinach and diet water. Things like that.

2) You need to go to fancy, out of the way, inconvenient, and over-priced shops. Let everyone know where you shop.

3) You need to let everyone know a minimum of 10 times per day that you are on a diet. You'll want to complain a lot as well.

4) You also need to lecture everyone about how poorly they eat. How those chemicals and growth hormones (and whatever else you can find on the internet) is going to kill them.

5) You'll probably last on this diet for 2 weeks (probably less). This is a good time to let people know that you are too busy / important to keep this stuff up ("eating good is hard work. I just ain't got time for that").

6) Keep your eyes peeled for the next big diet fad. I'm starting on the cookie diet next week. Just purchased $500 worth of cookies. I should be set.

Bacon is a very misunderstood vegetable.

Eat small meals often with filling foods. Drink a lot of water and if you feel hunger between the meals drink a glass of milk or V8 juice. Just think about something else. Read a book, watch tv, clean, exercise..whatever takes your mind off it until the next meal.

Try thinking of food constantly. You won't be able to. Sooner or later your mind will want to think of anything but food. You have to keep this up for a while.

Another option:

let the thoughts of food come. don't feel guilty. but don't act on them. just let them come. ignore them, observe them. dont react or get angry or frustrated when they come.

Eat veggies (celeris, carrots). They'll grow on you and you'll stop wanting those chips/snacks.

Captain, I certainly don't want carrots and celery GROWING ON ME !!!

Body hair is bad enough, don't need red pointy things dangling here and there.

move to ethiopia or some third world country where food is lacking

Think of young pretty girls, and realize that if you get fat, you might not be able to date them. That's one of my tricks, so it may work for you too.

First you have to figure out why you're thinking about food in the first place. Once you've figured that out you can counteract the problem instead of the symptom. For example, when I'm sitting around doing nothing I feel the urge to eat. It has nothing to do with being hungry. The solution is to get my butt up and do something. Usually I'll grab my bike and go for a ride or hit the courts. As soon as I commit to doing something I forget that I was "hungry".

You need a mantra. Whisper to yourself many times a day "I must not think about food, I must not think about food....."
