That "clown" is Dustin Brown, who is ranked in the top 100
and recently beat Sam Querrey (ranked about 19 or 20).

I don't think Muster can do much damage b/c he's just been
out of the game for so long and fitness and movement were
such a big part of his game. Plus he doesn't have a enough
weapons and his serve is mediocre.

I'd like to see him do well just to add a little excitement to the
tour. It seems a bit bland these days.

tennis age is all about how many miles you have on the body bro. If someone started playing at 21 and was a great athlete, and had great talent, I absolutely believe they would not hit their prime until they were in their late 20's. the Body says so. Look at your NFL players....these guys are in the prime of their fitness in their late 20's early thirties. Thing is, football is seasonal and a different sport all together. Pro tennis players have usually been playing "hard" all their life just about.so their bodies and minds (in my opinion) are more spent at an earlier age. A player in his thirties or even late thirties who has not been playing but so long would be interesting.

I heard Muster's retirement had something to do with PEDs. Again, this is not from a reliable source but more like hearsay.

Anyone knows what that rumor was about?

He should just play the Champions tour with his age group.

First he would make a lot more money than losing in early rounds of challengers and Futures.

Second, he would have a chance to actually win more than an occasional match.

Third- people who pay to see him at those events are paying for nostalgia. They want toe see a former great playing a competitive match against another former great. This is more satisfying than watching him get pummeled by some 20 year old ranked in the 100-300s that people know little about.

Muster never tested positive for any banned substance. It's really annoying that those rumours kept floating about.

Boris 'Boom Boom' Becker aka mr blood doper stated that Muster's tireless running and grunting and grinding made him suspicious.


Apparently, Becker doesn't know what he's talking about :shock:

Hasn't he played some matches on the Champions tour? If he did, then he certainly did not dominate THAT tour. How could he possibly believe that he could compete at the challenger events?

He's playing challengers because he likes the challenge. He hasn't got grand ambitions to turn the clock back to 1995, like some seem to think.

Anyone see that thing about Muster on the ATP tv show?

Apparently Muster is back to his 'fighting' weight and wants to try and get into a few ATP events, but only if his ranking lets him.

It showed some footage of him practicing. He looked like he was in really good shape and has lost a ton of weight. I saw him at the Aus Open this year and I thought he looked fat at the time, but now hes lost the gut and got back the 6 pack.

Hopefully he can make an impact in his next challenger event.

For a guy who won a Slam, and won 44 ATP titles in his career, I would say MONEY is not an issue. I'm guessing he's not playing for the money

On the other hand, I have no idea beforehand if he went bankrupt, had a nasty divorce, gambled it away or invested on the market and won 300 billion dollars. Just guessing :p

Well he did Marry and Australian woman and they lived in Australia for a while, but now they are divorced and I think he's married to someone else.

When he was speaking english in his interview he had an Australian accent instead of sounding kind of like the terminator like he used to

Yes, he was married to an Australian woman, Jo-Beth Taylor, from 2000-2005. They have a son, Christian, born in 2001. He married his second wife, Caroline Ofner, an Austrian, in April 2010. They have an 11 month old daughter, Maxim.

Yeah, I've heard Muster speak a few times on Eurosport during the last few French Opens, usually on Game, Set and Mats. The most obvious change in his voice from his playing days is the Australian accent.

back on OT, I think it's pretty cool. He misses the rush of real competition, and hes gettin back out there and playing. I'm hopin he improves considerably and we get to see him in a few main draw tournaments, I never got to see this guy in action in his career.

Nobody's more fun to watch than ol' Tommy - if he wants to come back, I'm all for it. It's not going to go anywhere, but who cares? I admire him for doing the challenger thing; that seems to show this isn't about ego or the desire to be handed something. He wants to earn it. Go Muster!

It would be the first ATP tournament of the 42-year-old's comeback. Muster, a former world No. 1, has played five challengers since returning to professional tennis earlier this year. He scores his first win this week in Slovenia, defeating Borut Puc 6-3, 6-1 before falling in the second round.

Give the guy time - it's great to see a legend such as Muster making a comeback ala Date Krumm :)

It's only a matter of time before he wins a challenger. I think realistically if he makes the 2nd round of an ATP250 event on clay he'll be ecstatic.

Impossible is nothing.

That's awesome! I hope there'll be a live stream for his 1st round match. Although a fast indoor court might be a bit challenging for the 43 year old clay court specialist...

I like these comments from the Austrian Independent (someone posted the link before):

"I was just on a long holiday – and now I’m back," he recently explained with a smile.

Muster claimed his wife Caroline gave him the green light to play tennis until he turns 45. "I want to make the most out of that," the former "King of Clay" said.

The Leibnitz-born champ, who won 44 ATP tournaments, also revealed plans to work with Spaniard Rafael Nadal. Muster said he had already met Toni Nadal, the manager of the current number one in the world, for talks. Muster said he wanted to update his training since his methods were still based on knowledge from 15 years ago.

I won't set my goals too high but will just play my best tennis and we'll see where it brings me," Muster said prior to his return at the ATP Challenger in Brunswick, Germany in June. "I want to feel that tournament atmosphere again. With hard work and the right ambition, a lot is possible."

He's now ranked 998!

And that win was over a guy ranked in the 500's and was pretty easy. Would have to say after a full year he could be back to the 200? Maybe even 100???? who knows...

In February 1999, Kafelnikov lost in the quarter finals of an indoor carpet event in London, and then proceeded to lose the first matches he played at Indian Wells, Miami, Estoril, Barcelona, Monte Carlo and Prague. The week after losing in Prague, Kafelnikov became the world number 1.

Kafelnikov had lost 7 matches in a row in singles competition and became number 1 in the world right at the end of that awful spell. Soon after, the ATP announced some amendments to the ranking system including the introduction of the "Champions Race" which would show how many points each player had earned in just the calendar year. There was also the merging of the World Championships and the Grand Slam Cup into the Tennis Masters Cup for 2000 (renamed to the World Tour Finals in 2009).

It wouldn't be fun if he met Muster. Edberg was by far his worst match-up, because Muster liked to go through his opponents and wasn't the greatest at passing shots, and Edberg was always covering the net and being a right nuisance. Muster came close to beating Edberg a few times, but never managed it. Edberg leads their head-to-head 10-0, and has continued to win every match they've had on the senior tour.
