The floods here in Australia are devastating! I am on my way to practice now and am going to speak with Tennis Australia to see if we perhaps can organize something on Sunday to help raise some funds for the people of Queensland who have been affected…stay tuned as it would be great if the sport of tennis can help out right before the Australian Open begins.

Oh my God! That's Pat Rafter Arena in Tennyson right? I was there... thankfully the tournament's finished before the flood came!
Where did you get the photo from ? I've been searching for news about the flood whether it's affecting the tennis centre or not. I only knew that Tennyson is in the flood zone because it's near the Brisbane river.

I feel bad because I remember enjoying that exhibition so much last year that I secretly hoped for another natural disaster so we could have a rematch. Now these floods hit. :neutral: But it would be great if they could so something to both help a horrible situation and entertain tennis fans around the globe.
Also, Roddick was donating money for each of his Brisbane aces; maybe he can persuade some of the others to do the same thing at the Open.

It's a sad moment for the people affected by the flood.. 10 people died so far and around 70 people are missing.
Regarding the flooded Pat Rafter Arena, why didn't they think carefully before building the tennis centre near Brisbane River? Tennyson suburb is a flood prone area, and they should think twice before building a sport complex there.
Anyway I've been unhappy with the way Tennis Australia dealing with Australian tennis. They seem to make tennis more of a business and don't really focus on the Australian players. Some top Tennis Australia officials own some apartments which is built near Pat Rafter Arena.. it sounds so wrong when tennis officials take opportunity to make money out of tennis project. It should be channeled towards the players. Also, all tennis clubs in Australia must use this same new blue surface all over the country and only one company that has the monopoly of this blue surface tennis court business. If a club refuses to put this new blue surface it may risks of losing its right to hold a tournament.... it all sounds so $$$$ oriented.
When they decided to move the WTA tournament in Gold Coast to Brisbane, the old Gold Coast WTA tournament director, wasn't even being informed about this.. that she would lose her job. That's pretty mean of TA.

Thank God, luckily my area (Gold Coast) is not affected by this La Niña event. We just have plenty of rain, but no flood. Today is very sunny so I had a hit of tennis. I'm about 1.5 hours drive south of Brisbane. At the moment 1.5 hrs drive towards the south from where I am (northern part of NSW) is affected by flood too. So, we're kind of miss the flood.
The heavy rain is now moving to the west, to the middle of the continent... towards South Australia and NT. Adelaide and Darwin will have plenty of rain...
12 people confirmed dead now and around 40 are still missing...

No, the flood is in the state of Queensland, in the north east of Australia. Melbourne is in the state of Victoria, right in the south east of Australia on the Bass Strait.

I attended 4 January and there was no rain that day. It only really rained during the Roddick/Soderling final day.

Brisbane is sub-tropical and affected by La Nina and a 0.5 degree rise in ocean temperatures, Melbourne is a temperate climate and its rains are mainly winter ones, so although it's also affected by the rather unusual weather patterns I can't see quite the same situation as in Brisbane.
That said, Melbourne is under flood watch, but is not yet in flood. It's still not a city like Brisbane with its climate and history of immense floods.
