Virginia men's LiveStats

Dominjan seem to be more interested in turning pro than playing for his college and his team-mates.

Yeah I found that questionable as well. I could understand if they were playing an easy team, but Texas is a top 10 team. Plus it's unliekly he will qualify for Miami anyway

I know, no unity in Virginia team. Stanford will upset them in the quarterfinals.

Virginia dropped the doubles point, and four of the first sets in singles, on the road, against a top 10 team, and playing without the #2 player in the country. I think it's fair to say that just about any team in the country facing that situation would have folded.

Virginia wins it, 5-2, and that included Jenkins losing a third set in which he was up a break.

Domijan will be so pre-occupied with thoughts of turning pro, that he may lose all his matches in NCAA tournement.

In regards to the Domijan situation, it plays right into what Coach Boland is selling to recruits. He's out there telling the top juniors in the country that coming to Virginia is only going to help further their pro ambitions. Not only will they play against a tough schedule, but they'll practice against some of the top talent in the country every day. Nothing demonstrates Boland's desire to help his players get to the next level than letting Domijan go to Miami for a golden opportunity at the next level, even if it meant that the team was somewhat disadvantaged in a match.

And don't tell me this type of recruiting strategy isn't working. Alex Domijan this year, Mitchell Frank is coming next year, and the last update on Jack Sock, he mentioned three schools as possible destinations if does go the Jesse Levine route. Texas, Nebraska, and Virginia.

well said automator

i was a bit surprised to see domijan out for such a big match, but whatever it's one regular season match that they were likely to win anyway, and a great example of practicing what you preach on Boland's part

i'm sure a few future All-Americans took notice of his flexibility

If Sock goes to Virginia -- that would be a heavily experienced team.

No way Sock is going to virginia. Coaching there is Poor at best. Sock is smarter than that. Good choice for him would be Georgia or Stanford.

Imagine if Kudla hadn't gone pro and opted for the "local" University, and Sock chose UVA too, then -- Domijan, Sock, Kudla and Frank as underclassmen-- Virginia would be very heavily experienced.

Stop dreaming. Virginia is the place where US juniors go to screw up their tennis.

LOL.

Fedace, are you coming out to Stanford this weekend for the USC/UCLA matches? I am working on Saturday vs. UCLA. See you there?

Oh, and I totally forgot to mention that Milos Raonic, currently ranked #34 in the world, signed a Letter of Intent to play at Virginia, but went pro instead. Just remembered that because Raonic is playing Somdev Devvarman in the second round of the ATP Tour event in Miami tomorrow.

I see, didn't have the grades for Stanford,,,hey ? Otherwise, i am sure he would have signed with the cardinal.

The head of the Canadian Tennis Federation helped convince Raonic that going pro was the way to go, and he was right.

More excuses about why Stanford is an inferior program to the big boys, Fedace?

UVA takes the doubles point, which in all likelihood means the match is over. That cannot happen if you want to beat the Hoos.

Virginia at Wake Forest. Jarmere Jenkins and Drew Courtney are missing due to injury.

Matches played at unusual location because Wake Forest is starting to built a new tennis court complex, I believe. LiveStats might be phoned in periodically in batches.

yeah looks like 7-0 (or 4-0) for UVA

despite the potential upset talk from gemini yesterday, GT just isn't that good if you ask me

sure they have one or two nice wins (UGA, UNC one of the two times they played) but they almost got shutout by Duke (playing at GT) even when Spir was playing singles

with Spir, I'll give them top 30...without, top 50 team

UVa sweeps all 6 first sets in singles, some of them pretty hard-fought.

Georgia Tech gave us a tough match indoors in Charlottesville a week ago. They are still missing Juan Spir at #2, but we got Drew Courtney back at #5 singles and #1 doubles. Spir did play doubles.

Georgia Tech is pretty good. Think of it this way: If they were playing the Palo Alto Pretenders instead of UVa today, it would be a very tight match. :)

Haha, yeah, as much of a Stanford basher as I enjoy being on these boards, I'm not even sure GT could give them that much trouble without Spir. 5-2 I'm guessing.

Basically their ranking is bolstered by UGA's ridiculous #5 ranking right now. I said that top-5 ranking was ridiculous when it came out (though I understand how the computers got tricked, good win after good win without going up against anybody great)...and today my comments got justified - beaten to a pulp by Kentucky in a shutout in the SEC semis.

phew, duke squeezes out a tight dubs point at #2...think we'll be joining you hoos in the finals tomorrow - i just can't see unc winning 4 of the top 5 (and 6 they should have almost no chance), though i wouldn't be surprised to see hernandez continue his hot streak and scrape out another tough win over cunha

welp UNC rolled over and died, 3 quick singles victories for 4-0...finally the slow slide down the rankings should stop, and hopefully the guys will make it entertaining vs UVA tomorrow (ie win the dubs point to make UVA sweat a little)...we shall see...

i knew he had sat out on senior day against Clemson and misread the recent scores -- oops.

glad to see he's playing. :)

Domijan sat out the Clemson match because there is some rule about the number of matches you can participate in during a season.
