tennis and economy ?

US and much of the world have been going thru what seems like the greatest economic challenge in nearly a century.
But i just don't feel it when things come to tennis in general.

As a matter of fact, my best tennis following moments were 2003-2007 when Henin and Federer blossomed.
Today there seems to be no shortage of sponsors in tennis events.
No shortage of general interest in tennis.

What accounts for this interesting phenomenon?
Is tennis immune from economic slowdowns?

Ask that question to those who go out and buy the $500 i-phones the second they come out and those who buy every Xbox game on the market even though they are unemployed.

That is not correct. Several sponsors were lost and new ones had to be found. Sales of tennis equipment declined sharply. I have seen numerous numbers in the past issues of RSI magazine.

Tennis is, sadly to say, inferior. Meaning it's not a priority concern for most people. There are some salesman (aka sponsors) who make money from this, but nobody in the world (except maybe Switzerland) looks at them hugely like they do with Soccer or Football and to an extent baseball.

If one looks closely at tthe US economy its a scary insight . Peak oil is now.
What do we have to show for that is going to replace it?Not a whole lot.
In fact , one can argue we have been hijacked by fossil fuels.
The recession was a small bump , the bigger one is around the bend or now as we see oil demand vs supply go the wrong way. So i think we will be feeling it off court and on.
