it's 85 degrees inside my house now...good times!

Even with windows open?

I'm sort of stuck in the same situation. I swear our HVAC repair company puts something down there that makes our AC crap out even though we haven't used it all winter long.... grrrr.......

BTW- Last week of night owl for me. Going to hit outdoors first week of may and looking forward to it.

I'm just looking forward to playing relatively pain-free in the beautiful outdoors again...

yeah...85 inside my house! my new roommate was some sort of master AC person...he took a look at it, and found something that they forgot to do in the fall...so i think you're right...they're probably scamming us somehow...

subarus are great! i would definitely take one. the 3000GT is classic too.
Agreed on the Subaru. It was Love At First Sight. And I bought it even before I was married or had kids. It's a 2001 with only 71K well-cared for miles. Haven't spent a dime on it except for regular maintenance (read: oil changes, new tires and batteries). Got a CV-Joint going bad and it's scheduled to be replaced this summer but all-in-all, I can't complain. Wish the mpg were just a bit better; can't ever quite get 30mpg on the road...but 22-25 mpg around town/mixed driving isn't bad.

Went to the annual car show earlier this year, looked over all the new stuff. Hated the new Forester. Just something about the seating position was all wrong. Liked the Mazda 3 and 5, Honda Fit and, much to our surprise, the Hyundai Elantra. Whole lotta car for the money. But since my car, despite its age, is not up in the rotation for replacement, hubs will be making the next vehicle selection. Oddly enough, it's his '01 Focus that's starting to develop some problems...so, time to get out the checkbook.

But, ahhhhhh, I miss my sports car days. My first little ride was an Opel GT. Pukey mustard yellow color but it had the sweetest 2nd gear I've ever driven. Looked like a mini-Corvette but was a metal version. Cool, manual, flip-over headlights...and 150mph on the speedometer. I never had it that high, not even anywhere in the triple-digits but spoke with a few guys (in doing some maintenance homework) who'd had one out on the track. Said 120mph was doable and felt good. Not shabby for a little 4-speed, 4-cylinder.

Then I thought I'd moved up in the world when I bought my first RX-7. Black. Now that car had a smooth clutch and a quiet engine. That's the car...I'd want back.

The 3000GT was a lark purchase. It was...eh...but I got plenty of attention in it. Sold it to my dad for a profit. He tooled around in it for two more years, then sold it to some sucker...for a profit. LOL

We had 85 in the house last week (on Weds) too. AC came on, but blew...cool but not cold air. Got on the phone to the HVAC boys. One service call, 2lbs freon and $200 later. Refrigerator. Not so much for me but hubs and kids run hot. No sense in making them miserable at night so we cool the house down to sleep.

Hope you get yours fixed.

thanks...i kind of knew this was going to happen...it actually stopped working in the fall, but i said, screw it -- it was getting cold, and i'll just deal with this later....

now it's later....

The 3000GT and its Dodge Stealth twin was a heavy footed beast that wasn't as good as many thought it would be. But they were pricey to maintain and really had plenty of faults. Actually most Mitsus aren't all that reliable or cheap to maintain except for a few models.

This. That's why I got rid of it. Quickly.

But I'll tell this little tidbit on my dearly departed mother. She was from Germany but had a very good command of the English language. But sometimes, she'd struggle with something that seemed so easy to me. Her term for my car: A MitchyB|tchy.

And it was. LOL

Hahaha. I guess it really was fitting!

Zap, have you ever driven a 3000GT VR-4 or an NSX? It wasn't that the 3000GT was heavy (which it was) but it REALLY FELT extremely heavy, not at all nimble like a sports car is supposed to be like. There were actually sports cars that weighed similar to the 3000GT but drove much lighter and more nimble, making it so much nicer to drive. It's like a racquet that looks good with great specs making you feel like it should be really nice but it turns out to be bear to swing and performance wanting...

The NSX was quite nimble and the steering feel was great. Engine, handling, and brakes on it were decent but definitely not up to par with Italy or Germany's best during their production years. But for its price and reliability, it definitely has its place amongst the sports car world.

that is true. it was made to rival the ferrari. but they exceeded it:)

corvettes are not show offs like ferraris. with good maintenance you can take it over150K. with a ferrari one tire change is like over$1000. forget 50K.

most people buy them to be cool or score with chics. I think you have better luck in a ferrari. So how did the NSX exceed it?

But the time you can afford 40 grand for an NSX the Audi R8 will proabbly dip into that range though.

The one this guy had was sweet, but it wasnt on Par with the higher end deals. Its lighter weight helped in the handling department.

They looked neat, but the styling is not on Par with Italy. nothing truly special about it besides the fact thatit was a reliable daily driver.

Nowadays for that price you would be better served getting a ZO6 if performance is all you care about. Corvettes get the job done and for cheap.

HW, funny you say that. Cuz the dude that got the NSX was just that, a guy who thought he was a pretty boy that needed a hot car to score chicks with but he couldn't drive a lick. I'm certainly no Ayrton Senna, but compared to him, I might as well have been! At his urging to test it out, I drove his NSX around the "S" curve near the water park on Eisenhower Ave in Alexandria at a little over 100mph...he almost pissed in his pants. Too funny.

Sad thing is, we have a maintenance agreement with these dudes, same company that installed when we bought our house new. Maybe your roomie can come over and check my place out. LOL!

BTW- Fresh Lux Alu rough @ 55lbs is pure magic! Won both the tie breakers I played tonight in practice. Couldn't miss. I need a reel of this stuff!

AQ -- had a '84 rx7 gsl. poop brown. 5 speed manual. sunroof. and kick azz pop up headlamps. drove like a champ and for its day - pretty fast. looked it up, 0-60 in 8 seconds. so a minivan is faster but i got mine up to 120+ mph back in the day. woot.

jrstriker -- i had dead poly/syn gut last night and it didn't feel nearly as magical as fresh alu. a lot less than magical. fortunately my game isn't dependent on hitting the strings very hard or sometimes at all. 6-0, 6-3 for middle aged slice and dice. woot again.

chris downs -- so the kai rabert isn't just chicken with basil minus the basil? i thought it's very similar. both sweet, spicy with fish sauce. not sure what else they are adding to their recipe.

Hurray!!! for Middle aged slice and dice! LOL!

I swear of the racket had no strings and just a flat surface made out of the same stuff as the frame, I'd be world champ. Frame shots are a weapon ;)

BTW- My other two rackets are strung up with a big ace/ Maxim Touch hybrid and that felt pretty good too. Not magical though.

So apparently Rio (I call her Rizzles 4 Shizzles) got into her first little scrap at daycare yesterday. She was playing with a toy phone and some other kid wanted the phone but Rio wouldn't let them have it, so he/she bit Rio on the arm. She had a perfectly red bite mark!

I guess the daycare's policy is that they can't tell us who the kid was so we can't sue or beat the **** out of the parents.

JRK,

Look for the kid with the toy phone fascination and similar bite pattern/teeth pattern. Just saying...

Well I did look at the bite mark... whoever the kid was had a lot of damn teeth. Rio only has 4 on top and 3 on the bottom. Maybe I'll let her take one of my wooden kendo swords with her to daycare next time.

Zap, as much as I liked the NSX, it is not on-par with Ferrari. Ferrari is about the passion of driving, while the NSX is not. NSX is a copy of it, telling the Italians that yes, Japanese can make a car and perform nearly as good as Italian’s exotics. Very much like the 1st generation MR2, a copy of a 308. The motor in the NSX is always lack luster with its 290bhp 6 cyl., even for its days, it wasn’t impressive. I know you’re a Honduh boy, but c’mon, really?

The Corvette with its LS7 is impressive for the price, but it’s a vette, it doesn’t have the prestige of their Italian competitions. Vette comes with plastic dash, doors, trunks, OHV motor, well, you get what you paid for, yes?

I was comapring a Vette to an NSX. Just from a performance standpoint.

For the price of used NSX you can get a mid 2000's ZO6. From a performance standpoint that ZO6 will compete just fine with an NSX. Add in the fact that vette parts are a dime a dozen and its way chaeper to own a better performing vette than an NSX.

The only car I would remoltey compare to Italian counterparts would have been the Ford GT which for 150 thousand was a huge value. But Im sure was no where near as refined. Those Italian Supercars just have the styling.

So I call up the Audi folks to see about them buying back my A4 like they did my other A4 (something about them needing to keep a certain amount of "used" cars on the lot).

The guy is like "sure, come on in and we'll talk, by the way we got the new A7 in stock now..."

WTF is an A7? Why would I want an A7 when I am trying to get rid of my car?

BTW, if you ever want to get an Audi, don't go to the one in Tyson's Corner. Go to the one way the f**k out in Chantilly, it's much better and the people are nicer.

hwood you're being kind. the z06 is a helluva lot faster than the nsx. heck my dad mobile sedan is as fast as a last gen nsx. honda seems to like bringing knives to a gunfight and always loses in sheer HP in just about every car segment they compete in -- and i'm a honda fan. but dems the facts.

I understand your comparison of NSX and Vette. As performance and bang for the buck goes, a Z06 will stomp a NSX stock for stock. The old saying, there is no replacement for displacement is the truth, but quality and reliability is a different issue.

Personally, 2012 Nissan "Skyline" GTR is probably the prefer choice as for dollar value, performance, handling, and technology goes...imo

JRK -- i'd recommend taking your car to carmax. my bro works in the car sales biz and he always has me take my car to carmax for an appraisal. they usually offer more than dealerships because dealerships like to say -- "oh yes we'll give you $1000 more on your trade in than carmax". and then they add $1000 more to your purchase price of your new car.

plus you can just sell the car at carmax and not buy another car. i've sold 4 cars at carmax. yes i go through cars like i go through underwear. once a year.

question -- i like bang for the buck. just like computers - there's always a sweet spot where you get 90 percentile performance at much less than 90 percentile cost.

i've been eyeing a 2003-ish audi rs6. sedan. stealth bomber. 450 hp. 0-60 in the mid 4's. about $20-25 large.

but yes. supercar performance at regular 911 money -- nissan skyline gtr.

The dealership wasn't too bad... they did give us $2k more for our other (2007) A4 than CarMax would have. They did try to add that back on when we started looking at the 2010 A4 but I told them I would just keep the 2007 since I liked it. They relented and we ended up getting the 2010 for the same price we got the 2007 believe it or not.

MrsJRK is relentless at haggling prices when it comes to cars... her brother has worked for Lexus & Mercedes dealerships in TX for the last 25 years. I'm guessing he taught her a thing or two about buying a car.

My friend has a Skyline GTR and yes he is Korean. That car is massive... reminds me of something from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome if it had spikes and **** coming off of it.

<yawn> That wasn't directed at the car talk. Just a long day. I'm having a glass of shiraz....didn't play tennis this past weekend :(

My first car was a 1974 VW Superbeetle Convertible..red with black top...loved that car even though it was the money pit. And, it got me lots of attention (this was when I had moments of insanity and had bleach blonde hair and thought I was Kelly from 90210...ah, the good ol' days). Sadly, jump starting a car every time I had to drive, no defroster, a floor rusting out, and windshield wipers randomly flying off = unreliable transportation. But I miss that car (especially when it conveniently broke down at the beach).

Anyhoo..carry on, my fellow TWMAC'ers...hope to get some hitting in this weekend and customise my YTPP.
