Im Johan, a tennis journalist from Sweden. Next week I'm gonna play with Lleyton Hewitts Racquet - Yonex RDiS Mid 93sq. inches. Anyone tried it?
Could you give me a solid report about it? -pros and cons. How does it differ from Nalbandians Yonex?

Thanks,

Johan.

Are you going to be playing with Lleyton Hewitt's ACTUAL racquet right out of his bag, or are you going to play with a real RDiS 100 Mid?

If you're playing his actual racquet, there's a very good chance that it's not a real RDiS and that is really a paintjob. Nalbandian has a similar story IIRC.

If the racquet is stock like you can buy in a store, poke around a bit in the racquets section. I personally found it to be very stable with tons of spin. It was stiff, but not harsh.

Enjoy your playtest!

Actually Hewitt did switch racquets. He is not using a PJ.

Appears that Hewitt actually switched to a 93 sq inch frame and it has the RDiS 100 mid paint/basic mold...obviously, it may have a different flex/weight than the retail model.

Give us a low down after you played with it. Would be interested to find out what you think. If possible you might one to bring a retail version of the racquet so you can atleast do a good comparison between the two (assuming that you'll be playing RDis racquet that Lleytona actually used).

Snap some pics if you can.

No. He had a paintjob of RDX 500 mid, but that time he actually played with Super RD Tour 90's.

(No pro ever played with RDX 500 mid, but IMHO it's a great racquet.)

Correct. For most of his career, Lleyton's played with a Super RD Tour 90, very close to stock specs, under the paint of every 'flagship' retail mid that Yonex had produced since then (MP Tour-1 90, RDX-500 Mid, RDS 001 Mid, RDiS 100 Mid for a brief period), and at some point (~end of last year), Lleyton really did switch to the RDiS 100 Mid (93) mold, still customized to his original SRDT 90 specs. I'll see if I can find some pics to highlight the differences for you guys, but they're really not too subtle.

I hear that the major difference between it and Nalbandian's racquet is the lack of donut crumbs on the handle of Hewitt's.

I agree, great racket. Didn't Joachim Johansson use it though? I heard rumors that he used an RDX 500 mid with a different string pattern, weight and balance.

True. Nalbandian's practice is known as double bubble butt weighting.

Research has indicated donut crumbs reduce unwanted vibrations by 20%. Additionally, Nalbandian rackets have remnants of powdered sugar in the mid to upper hoop area which have been found to significantly increase the sweet spot. The patented Donut Concept has increased Nalbandian's overall static weight making his racket seem much lighter.

Yup. I've Pim-Pim's personal RDX 500 Mid with custom 18x20 string pattern. L4 Head-shaped grip w/Calfskin leather, and a Head buttcap w/the Yonex logo painted on. If you guys really want specs, I might be able to dig them out, but for now:

All correct as far as I know. I'd add one thing, though. He also did really play for a little while with the RQiS 1 Tour mold the previous season as well, though he soon switched back to his RD Tour 90 and used a pj.

So, have you played with it yet? is it really his racquet or just any RDiS100mid?

I have a 9.8 condition racket that Lleyton used when he was no.1 on the ATP tour. Its a MP tour-1 90 Paint job of a Super RD Tour 90... Very very sweet racket :)

Has or Will Lleyton V-Core It?

'11 has been truncated due to injury for the Lawnmower. Has he or will he play with a V-Core (PJ or real) ? When is his return scheduled...original estimate was pre-FO?

I thought I remembered something like that.

Hey Chrischris I'd be interested to know the weight and lead tape placement on that Hewitt racquet Please :). There's hardly any info on hewitt's setup out there.

Thankyou chrischris for the pics and info :) Its nice to have some info on his stick. It looks like theres no lead tape anywhere on his racquet. 0_0 I wonder how they get it to that weight, if its just a custom mold or what, bc a normal Super RD is 360g. If you ever think about selling that again let me know.

They can put the lead in several locations on the racket, under the grommets. They can also have his racket with more silicone in the handle.
I haven't seen a MP mid, but I know for sure the beam of that racket looks like the SRD Tour, which is not round, is more triangular on the inside of the frame.
Now He uses the VCore 95D.

10 g isn't that much, and it could easily be placed under the bumper or in the grip.

I have 2 MP mids at home :) actually. Its just that Ive always thought lleyton would have used a depolarized setup for stability. tape under the grip and at 9&3.. Its cool to finally see one of his rackets and lay that myth to rest.

very well. i have one just like that with the rds 001 paint job and it's an amazing frame. the only problem for a 4.0 like me is that it's very powerless and very heavy!!! i can extract no power of that frame. but my god... is it velvet & plush ball striking!

Very cool! I can't imagine hitting with a heavy frame like that for a 5 set match. I have my rdis 100 up to 357grams and its heavy enough.

Thanks.
I saw the throat area and it looks just like the RDS/RDX design, different from the MP/SRD, I may be wrong, but since JJ played also with 18x20 I wonder which one was his original set up, the 16x18 or 18x20??
