There are some people now predicting Aaron Rodgers to become the best NFL QB of all time sometime. Is that jumping the gun based on an amazing year or is that valid to expect or think is possible for him.
It's possible. I've never a seen a quarterback throw on the run as comfortably as he does. And that is an awesome, game-changing, ability.
Dante Culpepper had a pretty decent career breaking out of the pocket and throwing deep to good (OK, great) receivers. But he wasn't nearly as accurate as Rodgers and he couldn't read the field inside the pocket. Rodgers can do it all - inside the pocket, outside the pocket, scramble, you name it.
Against the Vikings recently he looked like he could do anything he wanted with the ball. As tennis fans, we know what that can lead to.
He also learned everything Favre had to teach - the good, the bad and the ugly. He won't repeat his mistakes, that's for sure.

To be fair though, most QBs start their primes around that age. Brady had arguably his best season last year at 33. Manning won his 4th MVP award 2 years ago at 33. Brees is of course top 5 and really has played his best since turning 30 (he's 32 now). 28 is still pretty young for a starting QB. He's got at least 5 more years of peak performance left, if not more.
The one thing that will help him is the fact that the NFL is a passing league now, much more so than it was when Marino, Elway, Montana, even Unitas played. Guys like Rodgers, Brees, and Brady are all on track to smash the single season passing records this year. If that remains the case for Rodgers he could surpass a lot of the records. That and the league's doing more than ever to coddle QBs and keep them from getting hurt.

I like him alot (local guy who was born in Chico and played at Cal), but the "best QB ever" tag is too dependent on dozens of factors outside of his control. Most importantly, the TEAM (this is not tennis) has to be fantastic for years.
I'm convinced that Elway would get this label without any discussion had he had better coaches (Dan Reeves was a joke), running backs and linemen early in his career. Guy probably could have won 5 titles instead of 2.
Even more dramatic example is Marino. Would certainly figure prominently in the discussion had the group around him been good.

This is my third straight year of having Rodgers on my fantasy football team and I'm poised for a second championship in 3 years. He's had three great years and it's possible that his best years are ahead of him. And I'm not too worried that he's 28, because he didn't play for like 3 years as he sat behind Favre. This is only his 4th season as a starter and he's doing pretty damn good.
