2007 Wimbledon when Federer won that 5th won....was a great match which was way better than 2008 in quality of tennis played.

2008 Wimbledon was nice too....but it was only the drama....a choking Nadal and a weak Federer was the downfall of its worth.

Yes and no. While their official off season is short, there are many breaks within the season, so, if you add up the time they have off, it's not that dissimilar from an NBA off season.

I hadn't watched much tennis in the 90s because I was still a child and not into tennis yet. But I have watched a buttload of youtube clips and I have to say Ivanisevic finally winning a Wimbledon is one of favs. After he lost a few finals (3?) thought he was never gonna get one. Plus the match was just awesome against Rafter.

I think football players in the English Premier League have quite little rest as well. The actual off-season is usually spent on commercial tours including loads and loads of friendly matches.

There are probably better examples but this one sprang to mind.

If someone was making a poll on the best clay court player or the best looking player and Federer was way out in front, obviously that is a crazy result. :lol:

But this is a poll on favourite memory, so it's tough poop that Federer is in the lead. That's people's opinion. Sorry that there are more Federer fans than any other player... but there's nothing you can do about it. You think some people's favourite memory is actually Federer getting beaten by Nadal or Safin, but they're lying and saying they liked Federer completing his career slam more? Or course not.

I understand people being annoyed by posters unfairly voting for Federer, but in this case it's just being upset cos he has more fans..

2009 FO, it was so good to see Federer get something that had eluded him so long. That was a tourne that he won. Had a few close calls along the way. Who can forget the Haas 30-40 point at 3-4 third set down two sets to love?

Wimbledon 2001 is a close second, like literally half an inch behind it. Mainly for the same reason as above, Goran had tried to hard and finally got it.

Yeah, that's true. I'm just saying, on paper to think that when something officially starts to when it's inked that it ends, it must be a little disheartening to the players. But yeah, they do have large chunks of breaks and the schedule is up to them whether they play on certain tournies or not (other than mandatory such as masters/granny events). : )

Ivanesevic winning Wimbledon.The atmosphere,Rafter hitting an outrageous Lob which looked out in the 5th set.

The Aussie cricket team going nuts,all the flags felt like a football match,Goran choking about 4 times when serving for it and finally finding the mental fortitude to somehow win.

Goran's dad who liked like he was going to have a heart attack and finally the hug between the 2.

Not the greatest match but lifted into legendary status for all the above reasons

Ya the emotions were high there....but I didn't cry for Goran but the croatian commentator was crying real bad.

After all those Wimbledon losses, it was true test of heart....and something the future and the past players of tennis will look up to!

He was a wildcard. He then knocked out British players Greg Rusedski and Tim Henman (denying Tim his best ever chance to win Wimbledon and end Britain's slam drought that had lasted 50-60+ years) He thanked the all England club for giving the wildcard to him at the end of the final :lol:

By the way, his matches were anything but boring that year!

Two favourite memories, Safin slaughtering Sampras at US Open 2000 final, and winning down under in 2005. Roddick winning US Open 2003 was actually pretty sad looking back on it- commentators and Brad Gilbert said how Roddick would win many more slams......

LOL, that's certainly been true over the years, beginning with when he dumped Brad Gilbert, really. But to be fair, Roddick didn't play badly in that match at the 2005 US Open, as he hit 39 winners and just 15 unforced errors. The thing was, Muller hit 65 winners and 33 unforced errors. Muller also hit 24 aces while Roddick hit 17 aces.

It was just hilarious how, in the buildup and going into the match, they were building these advertising campaigns around Roddick's "lost mojo" and whether he would "find his mojo" and then he runs into an on-fire opponent in the first round and loses in straight sets. John McEnroe said he was "shellshocked", but they were foolish to dismiss Muller so readily considering that he had beaten Nadal at Wimbledon just 2 months earlier.

Roddick played awful throughout most of 2005. Even the tournaments he won/majors he did well in (AO and W) were unconvincing to say the least. That FH is a waste. Really Roddick wasn't even average in the US Open match, most of his winners counted since 2004 were service winners.

This draw is a nightmare. No way Nadal would reach the finals with such a draw...
And btw, 2001 is the last year of the "classic" wimbledon grass?!!!

Correct. When the courts were relaid in September 2001, it was 100% Rye instead of the traditional 70% Rye and 30% Creeping Red Fescue.

so although it was changed in 2001, it WAS on fast grass for Wimbledon that year? Meaning Federer beat Sampras on fast grass? Just wondering..
