I have been demo-ing both sticks for a couple of hours, and while I enjoyed both, there's no clear winner. Both have their merits and drawbacks. So I'm curious if anyone had some insights to share after hitting with both for a longer period and with different string setups (non-demo).

I currently use the Donnay Platinum 94 and I'm looking for a stick with a bit more Power and more stability on volleys.

Spec-wise the three are VERY similar, but play quite differently.

In my Opinion, the Prestige MP leads in Power and Stability, the 95D in Spin (most open pattern of the Bunch), the Plat in Comfort and Serving.

Questions:
- I would like to love the Prestige MP, but of the three I found access to Spin and Serving toughest. Wondering if that's because of grip-shape/demo strings. Does it get better with a different string setup and/or change of pallets? Any thoughts?

- Enjoyed the Yoni, but off-center hits felt harsher than the PMP. Also, didn't really enjoy Volleys that much. Had one demo with Yonex 850 strings (felt great) and one with Sensation (god-awful) - astounded by the difference with similar strings. Should I drop this one from the list or is there a setup that makes this one absolutely kill it?

Thanks for the Help!!

here's the direct spec comparison:

@sargeinaz:

The are pretty similar, with the Vcore on paper being more powerful based on the open patter - the difference I felt was probably due to string type/tension

@Fed Kennedy:
I've seen in your posts that you are loving the 95D - how long did you have it for? would you consider yourself still being in the honeymoon period?

Definitely honeymooning. Prob like a month. Loving it though. Not sure when the honeymoon ends...prob with a crushing loss.

I've never used the Donnay, but I have hit with the VCore 95D and Prestige MP for 3 months side-by-side. Stringing both with the same multi (X1-BiPhase), the VCore 95D definitely had more power, especially on serves, along with a larger sweetspot. The Prestige MP was more precise.

If my game was on, I think the Prestige MP is a more lethal weapon. At the end, I went with the VCore 95D for better comfort and slightly greater forgiveness.

That's great info - thanks! That's pretty much my sentiment. I would LOVE to like the Prestige as I can feel its greater potential. I did however feel the Prestige was less jarring on off-center hits.

I felt extremely confident with my 1 HBH with the Prestige, but just can't seem to dial in my forehand.

Loved the serving and ground strokes with the Yonex, but lackluster feel and control on volleys are stopping me from pulling the trigger on the Vcore.

Ugh. decisions, decisions, decisions.

I tried many multi string in this racket but unfortunately it needs poly in it to make it shine. pro tornado and kirschbaum p2 works great in this stick. good luck

THe V-Core is quite string sensitive. I use a full bed of Poly and have found HEAD sonic pro works well, as does Solinco Outlast. The frame doesn't seem to like BBR or even regular BB very much, though. (harshness)

I played an open tournament at the weekend (lost to some 18 year old in the quarters, sigh) and was very pleased with the pace of shot I was generating. One opponent (we have played many times) commented that 'you're serving harder than you have in ten years'

I don't find a problem with off centre hits, but I have come from the quite demanding Dunlop Bio 200s and am probably relishing a slightly larger sweet spot.
I still have an FXP Prestige and the V-Cores trump that in every regard.

Try Head Youtek IG Prestige Pro. Compared to MP Pro has more open pattern, easier access to spin and slightly more power. I find Pro to be also an excellent racquet on serve.

Thanks, but unfortunately the Pro looks to be going up there in Static and Swingweight as well as Stiffness.

As I'm getting older I'm looking to come down in Weight and SW a bit.

I'll give the Yonex another hard look.

Has anyone used full gut in the 95D? I wonder if it would improve the feel. It would have to be strung higher to reign in the power, but I imagine it would be lovely.

I have used the racquet with 2 kinds of multi, 3 polys and full vs team. This is the vcore 95. For my game the stick really shines with full poly between 50 and 55.
The gut produced incredible ball speed, serves and volleys but the poly makes the stick so versatile crom the baseline and produces the damp thud that I like. I can only imagine gut mains poly crosses would be super.

What String do you use?

Im so confused by the amount of string choices Ive jusr been using what I had at home left over from my tec 320 days. Black code and tour bite.

If you are not a poly user bab addiction plays nice in it.

Next week I might switch it up, try some hyperion outlast or tourna black7.

Since I just lost on a Volkl tour 10 MP on the big auction site (I've officially given up on trying to get one. It's been almost 2 years), I'm going to re-demo the Vcore 95D and if it's as nice as I remember, I'll probably buy one with full gut at 60M/58C. I just cant keep playing with the PS85 as my main racket. When I have an off day with the PS85, it's atrocious. Thanks Fed.

I tried vs gut 17 main and adrenaline 16 cross, felt great!
Low slice from the opponent is easy to hit with top spin.

Thats what I used in mine (Wilson gut 16) I been playing with this racquet for the past 2 months and at one point I was about to give up and sell it. Did a last try putting lead tape in the 10 and 2 (from where the first cross start down to the six cross), best decision I ever did in tennis. This racquet is a baseball bat now. Has everthing and I mean EVERYTHING. Power, control (which I didnt have too much without lead tape) touch, feel. Joking with my hitting partners I do all the time the "Tomic shot" fake forehand and drops in the net and it land 95% of the time.

Now I have 2, but as soon this go down in price with new models coming I will buy A LOT of them.

PS. I just came from chronic tennis elbow(playing with Dunlop 200 lite) with a final second cortisone shot in the beginning of February............now...no pain what so ever. The lead tape in the top open the sweet spot in that area letting no jarring.

Best of luck in your search OP and happy hitting.

Sounds awesome, i'll have to try this. I have one stock and one leaded, I use the heavy for dubs.

I find my stock vcore with leather very similar to ps85 in terms of control, slashy control and 1hbh precision with the benefit that I can hit deeper with less effort, put away balls better...1st serve not quite as goat but worth the trade off. Ps85 is nonstop footwork drill.

Intrigued by this thread and would love to know more people's comparisons. Currently playing an IG MP, which is SO much better than the Youtek version. Hit with a 95D yesterday for only about five minutes at Indian Wells - hated the 95D first time I tried it, then yesterday it felt like a totally different frame and something I could play with. Still prefer the feel of the new Prestige, but the 95D may require another demo from me at some point. Love the 16/20 pattern in the smaller head.

So I pulled the trigger on one 95D for now for an extended playtest.
(let's not call it a honeymoon - had plenty of those and we know how that ends)

Now it's a question of strings...

although still looking out for a used IG PMP in 1/4.

haven't try the IG one but try the youtek prestige mp for a week (demo) and to compare to my main stick yonex vcore 95d the power level is higher with the yonex but the sweetspot sounds bigger with the prestige! control are kind of equal, more power with yonex, at net very simular. i prefer to serve with the yonex (more pace and control) and good second ball! the 95d is string sensitive with luxilon timo 1.22 (mains) and kirschbaum in the crosses don't string too LOW cause you're control will gone! if you have a one handed backhand like me the yonex is more suitable. vcore 95d is in my top five lifetime racquets for sure!

Just noticed in your sig that you're no longer testing the IG MP.

Are you over it? Moved on to a younger model?

First off, all frames have now taken a back seat to rest, unfortunately, as I've been having some shoulder discomfort and I'm hoping/praying that some time off will heal rather than something more serious. But just before taking the break, I was having a lot more success with my old flame, the BC20, and concentrating on that a lot more.

I did mean to playtest the V95, ordered the demo, and got time on a ball machine last week with both the V95 and the Prestige for a couple hours, albeit my shoulder discomfort had begun by then and I wasn't quite feeling 100 percent. In that limited time, though, I liked the feel and how the ball was coming off my Prestige more than the V95, but most importantly, I was feeling my shoulder pain the most with the V95 so I had to stop hitting with it after only 30 minutes and that ended my V95 playtest. I would have continued to play with it for the full week but decided the next day to take a break from hitting so the demo went back.

Regarding the IG MP, my battle is this: groundstrokes feel absolutely amazing, but on serve I seem unable to get to the UTTERLY WOW sensation of my IG Prestige that I demoed vs. the one I bought. I think Carol states in the IG MP review that she felt the weight of the Prestige when the racquet was up above her shoulder and I have to say, I'm kind of with her on that when it comes to serving. The frame is more sluggish on serve than it is on groundies, where it still feels amazing to me. So... it's a battle. It's so close to being my dream frame based on groundie solidity and control but the serving thing is so irksome, because the serve means a lot to my game style.

Since you're on the sidelines taking a rest at the moment....let me step in temporarily. The IG MP absolutely needs lead. As a basic foundation, I added about 3.5g to 12 running down to about the 2nd cross with a 5g OG on the handle.

In that guise, it serves very well in terms of the variety you can get on the serve - flat, slice, kickers - its all there. It just seems alot easier whip the racquet through, with greater head speed, with that small amount of added weight in the tip. Even with kickers, you feel like you can caress the entire circumferance of the ball.

It doesn't feel as beefer as I'd like on groundstrokes, but am still experimenting.

I had been tweaking with lead: weight at 3/9 was terrible; weight at 12 was better but still felt sluggish, and 7g at the 7-inch mark on the handle, along with an overgrip, was the very best setup I'd tried, but when I tried to counter with just a little lead at 12 to improve stability, again I thought the frame went back to 'sluggishness.' ... The lead tweaking was driving me insane. When I go back to the frame I want to go back to the weight at the handle.... in the most recent days I'd gone back to stock form (except for a Wilson Pro Hybrid grip instead of Hydrosorb) to try that out once more and it didn't feel right.

Your body is very good at adapting to what you do, why not instead of adding all the lead in one go just add a tiny bit and play with it until you find it easy to swing then add a bit more and keep doing that until it feels perfect.

Yup, I had the same issue with the Youtek version - tweaking seems to take forever! I've started afresh with IG simply because its a different frame. Can't offer anything definitive though as I'm only at the start of the process but I agree that too much lead at 12 can make it feel sluggish. 2.5g is fine, 5g seems a bit tip heavy. I think it also needs some at 2/10 or 3/9 or roundabout there - ust not sure how much at the moment. This is going to take time to figure out......

Keep updating, I'll be interested to see where you land. This IG Prestige is, at its core, an amazing frame with epic control and stellar feel, so I will likely continue to play around with it when I get back to the court.

I also wouldn't mind trading mine for a grip size larger (3/8), in case anyone else out there wants to go smaller (to a 1/4).

My take is that the prestige is a beautiful lead tape discovery project with a handle that is shaped like an i phone and the yonex is a roided out ps85..

hit with the 95D for a couple hours - whoa it's crazy powerful.

Loving serving with it though. Took a while to dial in groundies.

Getting a IGMP with same string setup as well, for an even comparison and extended demo period.

Hit with both again tonight. It really is an interesting comparison - both are strung with Yonex Pro Tour 125 at 53lbs, with no mods.

This may in fact be a little too loose for the Yonex, but spot on for the Prestige IG MP (or should we call it the PIMP??)

Serves are absolutely the bomb with the Yonex and you get great placement on seconds right off the bat.

Took me a little longer to dial them in with the PIMP.

The opposite is true with groundstrokes. You have to have a full swing for the Yonex to tame the power - shorten your swing a tad or flatten too much and the ball sails on you. With the PIMP I felt a lot more confident with ANY kind of shot, thanks to the 18x20 bed which is home for me.

Volleys are a dream with the PIMP, and ok with the 95D.

In terms of comfort, hitting the sweet spot with the Yonex is like sinking into a plush old couch, but the sound you get with a proper hit on the PIMP makes your chest hair grow. Off-center hits are more forgiving on the PIMP.

All in all I'm really enjoying both sticks right now - honeymoon or not - they're both very lovely products.

With the PIMP I would of course need to see Roman about a handle down the line...

decisions, decisions, decisions.

Interesting read.

The 'PIMP' felt really easy to whip around when I demo'd it back in November. It just didn't have that 'prestige punch' to it stock, lower swing weight.

Problem is, it's over 12oz with an overgrip, so mods have to be done with a grain of salt.

I felt the weight in the middle of the frame, yoke-throat, so I decided to polarize the PIMP.

I went overboard at first, 10grams wrapped around the top half of the hoop at 12 and 10grams under the buttcap. Wow!!! It weighed in at 365gr but it was nicely balanced. Full of power. Serves were amazing. Felt like a pitcher, dialing up heaters, sliders, breakers... etc. It was just automatic on serve. Groundstrokes and returns became problematic.

So then I took 10gr off, 5 at 12 and 5 in the cap. 355gr. Seemed perfect and a good compromise.

A polarized PIMP really bent and post-wobbled (like the K90). Felt flexier.

Just thought I'd share.

Interesting indeed -

may try the 10g - which incidentally would bring the PIMP up to 355g, matching the weight of the 95D (to go with the spirit of this thread)

- and really having issues with controlling the 95D. will try tighter strings before ditching it....

Try Head Youtek IG Prestige Pro. Compared to MP Pro has more open pattern, easier access to spin and slightly more power. I find Pro to be also an excellent racquet on serve.

This comment has been resonating with me...finally got the PRO demo.
So far it's filling all the shortcomings the MP had for me. It may very well be the (next) one.

So thanks for recommending it!
