Thanks for answering my questions, I know that they do not always pertain to your thread, but they are not really worth creating a whole thread for.

and also you did not see me at 100% yesterday. I am still recovering from being used to playing only indoors. I am sure the same is for you, but we had some good points.

My last question is do all multis shred, or can do some just snap like syn gut?

Brilliant. I'll remember that.

Assuming you are not pulling my leg in return for yesterday, make sure that you get your legal protections up front if you are creating something that could be unique. One of my tennis buddies is a patent attorney, so I know enough about it to be dangerous.

Honestly, the ideal string for me would be gut on serves/overheads/dropshots. On ground strokes and volleys, either my mikeler matchup or Micronite would be best. Considering the Micronite is better on my arm, let's just go with Micronite for that category. Now if you could develop a string that plays like one type of string on certain shots and another type on other shots then you sir would have a winner and probably would make a lot of money.

I'll take this one Mr. PV. Some multis give zero warning they are going to break, they just snap like a synthetic gut. Most will give you some visual cues before snapping. A few will shred ever so slightly and expose their inner solid core before breaking within a few hits. Then there are a few that shred and shred and shred and shred. Signum Pro Micronite and Babolat Xcel which I love both behave like this.

I will. I'll have to hit with Micronite to see how it performs. I really already have a plan for production, the problem is I'm only 16 :).

Have you considered whether you know anyone in the business that is not only 16 that might could assist you? Think carefully... :)

In all seriousness, it isn't as simple as I'm making it out to be. It would require quite a bit of experimentation. The reason is that it won't be synthetic serosa.

I was on your website recently and you have really boosted your inventory. Glad to see a local business doing well. I think I have the "formula" for producing the best multis. Whether you can do it for cheaper than your competitors would be key. We can discuss it offline or perhaps in my multis thread.

Don't let age stop your pursuit of something. Get on it now, especially with MambaT offering assistance.

The thing is, the reason I want to see the process of artificially creating serosa be successful isn't because I want to make cheap gut string. The ramifications of it working would be mind boggling. It would be a medical breakthrough.

WC Silverstring 1.20 / OGSM 18

ssogsm.jpg

ssogsmmac.jpg

Stringing: Strung this at 51/55. Silverstring is a super easy poly to work with, so no problems there. OGSM 18 is also incredibly easy to work with. I have to say that the 17 is easier (the 18 feels greasy, but perhaps that's because it came from a set whereas I have a reel of the 17).

The purpose of this playtest is to attempt to duplicate the super crispness of Baseline, but so that it lasts until the crosses break (or the poly gets notched to death). Reason being, I won't have access to my stringing machine this summer, and I really like the Baseline. However, if it only lasts for 4 hours, even with labor, that's 30 bucks a stick down the drain every week and a half. This is, of course, assuming $15 labor is the standard. Regardless, I have a reel of SS, a huge number of packs of OGSM 18 and still the rest of my reel of 17. Also have some Super that I've not used. Aside short, since SS lasts for a very long time, this ends up being a better value than Baseline when I can't string it myself.

Luxilon Adrenaline Rough 1.25mm / Yonex Tour Super 850 1.30mm

lux850.jpg

lux850mac.jpg

Stringing: I've strung this setup before as it's what I string for rdis10093 in real life. The Adrenaline Rough is a perfect mix of ALU Rough and Adrenaline. It's got that odd bumpy texture like ALUR, and coils up like a viper like Adrenaline does. Overall, nothing terrible. I hinted at in the last review that OGSM is one of the easiest strings to string: a top 5 for sure. Yonex 850 is easier. If I had to make a top 3 easiest strings to work with it would be, in order:

1. Pro Supex Maxim Touch
2. Yonex 850 16
3. Gosen OGSM

It just glides through everything so easily, no risk of breaking it, even though it ghosts a bit you can't tell due to its color, and it just feels extra soft. Even though his racquet has 20 crosses, needless to say, I don't really mind! Strung at 52/55lbs.

Groundstrokes: Have to be honest: this isn't for me. It has a very unusual feel. The crosses are incredibly soft, but the Adrenaline has a boardy feel. So, what you're left with is a board on springs. Spin is fairly good, and power is good as well. Regardless, it has the Lux feel that I don't care for. Others may, however.
Overall: 8.25/10

Serves: More of the same here. There is quite a bit of power, however. Slice serves work admirably, for one thing. But as an overall serving setup, this still doesn't feel right.
Overall: 8.25/10

Volleys: This is too soft to give high marks for feel, and too stiff feeling for touch. I'll explain more below.
Overall: 8.25/10

Durability: The Lux took two hours to settle as rdis10093 did mention. That's far too long for me, because by that time, the Yonex was incredibly frayed.
Overall: 8/10

I don't have too many deep thoughts about this setup. I don't think that these strings are complementary, and that's about it. Think about a trampoline where the mesh is made of steel. So, you have a stiff plane which can move on springs. That's the sort of feel I get here: stiff and unyielding feeling, but with a mushiness that's just not for me. I think a stiffer cross would be ideal with Adrenaline Rough.

Overall: 8.25/10

Played terribly, can't give a decent account of the Silverstring. Mind was all foggy with all of this crap going on that I've got to do and I carried it onto the court. #1 no no because then it makes your mood even worse.

I guess I can understand about the complement thing. For me though, my racquet is already very stiff. So if I am going to play with an arm killer string, I want something very soft in the crosses. Thanks for dong the review. I enjoy this thread so much. When I first started Talk tennis, I did not know so much, but the equipment section teaches you everything.

It is like a public library, it allows one to become selfeducated. Hands down though, this is one of my favorite threads, the pro discussion threads have too much arguing, but this thread is purely educational.

If you had to recomend a cross though, that was not poly and would not kill the arm what would you go with?

Much appreciated! A cross? I'd try a generic syn gut, honestly. That's a poly which brings its own unique feel to the table, so I don't think that changing it completely would be very useful.

While the 18 plays very nicely, you may want to consider using the 17 long term (assuming you like the setup). 18 just eats through the mains too fast... *shakes head*

I've found that only the stiffer polys manage to bear the 18 for more than an hour or 2

P.S. You're always welcome to ship your frames down to NY :p I'll trade you labor for NE Clam Chowder

Gosen OG Sheep Micro 17 works well with almost any poly, as does Gamma Synthetic16 NO Wearguard and Forten Sweet 16.
PSGD, too.

I think I would end up taking the 17 anyway. The 18 feels a bit too pingy anyway.

That's not quite what I had in mind. My method is closely related to how they produce insulin, just much more complex.
You, my friend, have a lot of reading ahead of you. Subscribe to some of the bigger cardiovascular medicine, bioengineering, biomedical engineering and tissue engineering journals to see what others have done. Perhaps thisway you can get a better idea as to where your process stands and how to leapfrog the research of others. In other words, innovation. :)

Cool. I've got some ideas that are different than ones I've read about. The problem is, once non embryonic stem cells are researched and utilized more fully, the need for most of them is gone.

Did ~50mins of very light hitting. Hmm, the SS doesn't have a lot of spin at all. I had forgotten that it is very un-spin-friendly. Balls were dropping in much longer than expected. Oh well, was looking for a neutral setup anyway. Threw a rubber band on it and that's helped with the pingyness.

pvaudio

Legend
Honestly, not yet. I really want to improve, so hitting with a very neutral setup is very valuable. Once I have my BH to the point that it will be "good enough" even on an off day, then I can go back to using the great stuff. Until then, neutral it is! Honestly, the Baseline is better than the SS, but the SS will not change its playability until it breaks or the crosses pop. The Baseline just fell off a cliff.

I'm in Boston, and I'd be happy to let you hop on my machine if you need to. I travel for work constantly, but when I'm around, no prob. It's a SP Opus--thing is the nuts. You have my email... And when I get back from the trip I'm on right now I'll get that string out to you.

 My machine on steroids.

When you do get to Boston you'll probably have the pleasure of dealing with a certain shop in Harvard Square. They'll have your frames back in 4 days, $20 a whack--and when you pay for them, the person in line in front of you will be picking up their ALU mains, VS crosses in their 77 RA frames that the shop recommended.

Yeah I honestly tried to trade my Aria back in for the last Opus once SP stopped making stringing machines. They wouldn't bite regardless of added money :(
