wasn't there an article in tennis magazine a while back about a computer rated 4.0 player playing a match against some 14 or so year old junior girl? He got beat like 1 and 0. Ok, 4.5 will easily beat 4.0 as well, but let's just say that Radwanska is perhaps a tad better than 14 year old junior, no?

On the side note - all those folks claiming that the serve alone of 4.5 would overpower Radwanska. First - have you seen 4.5 serving in a real match for points? You may get a decent serve here and there, but if you claim you can ace her why can't you consistenly ace your league opponents? i mean it's not like her reflexes are worse than those league players.
Second, what are you going to do after she returns your serve? Because if you think you can consistenly hit a winner off that return than again, why don't you do that against your 4.5 opponents?

Most top tier 4.5 male players could beat Agnes...it would be close, but the power of the 4.5 male trumps the weak serving WTA female player.

1 summer i played the number 3 girl for for a d1 school. i thought she was about a better 4.5 (at the time i was a lesser 4.0 and i got to a couple tiebreakers (usually lost 6-3ish) she would hit out a lot more than she did when i watched her play her d1 matches. the difference between her and aggy seems like a lot.

i think it would take a good d1 player or someone who gets deep and wins open tournaments to beat aggie.

I also agree. #1 girl in a Top D1 college,,,lets say Nicole Gibbs from Stanford would make a mince meat out of USTA 4.5 player. like 6-3 6-3, something like that.

+1, Stacey Tan of Stanford hangs with plenty of the Mens Open players at my club.

I would be surprised if any 4.5 level male player can get more than a couple of games per set out of someone like Radwanska. And, that would happen, if the player has a huge serve and get some free points. In fact, most 4.5 male players will have trouble winning a couple of points per game, especially against someone so steady and solid as Radwanska.

I play with players from a competitive D1 school on every week. I only get to win 2-4 games per set on average. I have only beaten the players that are on the bottom roster.

One thing that has surprised is how well they are able to return hard flat serves. Often I think I hit a good serve, and I have a bullet coming back. Most of them are not as good in returning serves with lots of work (spin) on them like twist serve. But, eventually they will get a beat on it and will stop missing, if they are any good.

Keep in mind that Radwanska plays against and has beat hard hitting players like Zvonareva and Azarenka. Believe me, most of you don't hit as hard as these female players do. Also, I am amazed how hard it is to hit a clean winner against good moving female players, because they are surprisingly quick and are very good at anticipating. Plus, they seem to play right shots with good depth and direction.

Also, you will most likely be tight, and not play your best tennis, if you do get to play Radwanska. Plus, you would be surprised at the level of intensity pro tennis vs. recreational tennis.

So, go find some good D1 level female players or better yet a former WTA player and see how you do before thinking that you are gonna win a set against someone as solid as Radwanska. You have to keep in mind that some of them are incredible tennis freaks and have hundreds of competitive matches under their belt.

I think it would be a close one. Not sure who would win if you played Aggie. I say Aggie in 3 sets. 7-6 6-7 7-6.:)

Haha, again I disagree, based on what Ive seen from other players my level playing against top women pros. Of course I would have to play a good game, but put your money on me.

I'll admit the racquet tech and strings have made tennis easier for weaker guys and girls.

But ultimately tennis is a demanding physical sport. Women can't compete on explosive movements, there body structure is made for carrying babies not chasing tennis balls. Females don't have male pride.

A good d2 player would challenge a top 100 female.

Good d1 would beat them. An elite d1 / itf ranked would destroy them all.

There's a reason college boys are brought out for practise hitting during wta/itf events, female partners are too weak on serves and get tired / *****y / cranky easily. Looks good to say you trained (with) player X on your resume if only for 40 minutes handing out the towels, chairs and balls, carrying her gear. :p

Being married tonylars would win. He has no reason to gain score with the wta ladies.

And ok, good for you

Okay, how and why did Serenna end up hitting with a guy that can't even make a college tennis team? My guess is she has a pretty big pool to choose from. Next, you mean to tell me that Serena thought the best way to practice was to play a full, competitive, 2 out of 3 set match? That's pretty unusually for top players to do in practice.

Could you best Agnieska Radwanska in a real tennis match?
I'm a 5.0 with 5.5 potential (if in form), and I was barely able to beat my ex-girlfriend last year, a former strong D1 college player (her highest NCAA rank was about 40). Believe me, she hits the ball as hard or harder than most of my 5.0-5.5 male peers. While Radwanska seems to hit a softer, craftier ball, I'm sure it's still much heavier than what it seems on TV... I think I win maybe 4-5 games, possibly less. If I can train for a few months before playing her, then I could give her trouble.

loll 27 guys here who can beat Radwanska! Dream on suckers... There's 5 or 10 guys TOPS on these boards who might have a chance.

I used to be a talented junior, then we ran out of money and I couldn't play for some years. However, even though I'm a shadow of my former self, with a bit of luck I could get to 40 on my own service games, however I'd struggle to even get there and a game would probably be completely out of the question unless she plays with that handle.

However, I have a friend who is a totally awesome player (and I mean really, REALLY totally awesome) and is just rocketing up the junior ranks here in Sweden, currently top 10 in his age group (2 years younger, versatile as hell and probably hits harder than Aggie) who probably could get a few games.

Radwanska says she could still beat all of us with this racquet.

But it's a well-known scientific fact that men's bodies DID evolve to chase tennis balls.

What the hell is this supposed to mean?

I am stunned...not sure whether to laugh or give you one of these :?. Or maybe one of these. You clearly don't get out much in the world, do you?

I'm a 5.5 player who was an alternate on the Canadian Davis Cup team. I've hit with Raonic on multiple occasions and now I train nationally ranked juniors for a living.

I would easily beat her. Don't make sweeping generalizations and claim "no one on this forum could beat her".

Pic or it didn't happen.

Give her a wooden racket, one serve, allow me doubles outlines and then we might have something somewhat competitive for a while.

Players like Radwanska can use your pace against you. For sure, you can go for broke and hit some winners, but generally if she can get to it, she can redirect the ball into a spot that makes your next shot very difficult.

She obviously has tennis smarts. She'll notice weaknesses in your movement, and shots, and exploit them. You don't bend your knees enough? Ok, she'll hit skidding slices into spots where you find it almost impossible to pick the ball up, and if you can, you'll probably won't be able to hit it back with authority.

Players like her are annoying as hell to play against. One of the primary reasons they can get to such high rankings, is that they play to their opponents weaknesses, and only lose when the big hitters are really on their games.

4.5 players don't often even think about what patterns they should be playing against certain players. Sure a 4.5 will hit the ball to an opponents backhand, but they don't usually identify the fact that a person has trouble moving back to the forehand side after hitting a high backhand. A higher level player can, and will exploit such weaknesses.

It would take at least a 5.5 to beat Radwanska. I'm a 4.5 (5 on a good day) and i've played with some really talented, nationally ranked girls in the 16s who occasionally take sets off me and they aren't in the same league as Radwanska.

5.5 has no chance of beating her...get real.

Who doesn't play to their opponents' weaknesses? You mean great players have to play to their opponents' strengths ?

I think he was referring to how the pros analytically exploit their opponents weaknesses. They have so much more experience than a rec player that naturally they employ these tactics.

I'd like to think I could take a single point off her.

High hopes, I know.

A point...or more...of course.
We all hit that "amazing" shot once a while or that serve that we could never be returned...

Also, she is a human and would make at least a few errors...
