Would have liked to see this. Two very unique players. Stepanek the veteran won. Anybody see what happened?

Not much to see Tomic isn't a very good clay court player at all.

And Stepanek is? Stepanek has one freak deep run in Rome and RG, before he injured his wrist and lost his forehand, and that's it. And that run in Rome was on the back of a LOT of retirements (if anyone remembers it was actually pretty incredible)

Tomic is morbidly slow and can't handle aggressive players, he has no retrieving ability at all. He's going nowhere in the game.

uh, ye, this is his first rnd 1 loss this clay season, he was in the QF last week in Munich and he is ranked higher right now than Federer, Rafter or Safin at the same age... (all former Number 1s and multiple major winners)

Tomic was quote as saying Stepanek just played really well although he did mention the blue was 'strange, almost slippery'. Tomic did not blame the surface, however, saying he 'just didn't play the tennis he needed to'

Tomic is the only under-20 player in the top 100. If he stays mentally and physically healthy he should have a very successful career.
