The Murray Bandwagon

Quite funny that all of the English seem to hate Murray, isn't it? Bitter, jealous people. they must be seething with rage about the best British tennis player of all time being a Scot.

I'm English. I LOVE Murray, and have supported him since he was a junior. Most English support him - but the football supporters who have no sense of humour and can't forgive him for a joke back in 2006 make an awful lot of noise - even though both Henman and the reporter in question have explained that it was a joke many times!

I'm with you there, it gets tiring explaining to them over and over again what happened in the interview. I'm a big Murray fan and I actually enjoy his sense of humour, I found the comment funny.

That's a heavy generalisation there Destro.
Probably the majority of English like Murray.
Just the small number of bigoted idiots make more nosie and look stupid so they stand out.

Does that answer your question Destro?

Lebron James is on the Murray bandwagon, there is no stopping it from rolling into Muzza's first major title!

Serena too, she just said on ESPN that she's a huge Murray fan and that she always stays and watches his matches on TV....

Really? Wow. Because Miami Heat won the NBA Championships yes? Are they one of the big dogs in the NBA?

LeBron is the best in the NBA yeah, he always struggled in the finals though and he got the "choker" tag.

This year he worked harder than ever, worked with all time greats during the lock out and put himself into a bubble, where he didn't read any newspapers or comments on the internet. He was sensational in the finals this time and won his first Championship.

Murray is also a big basketball fan and has said he feels like he's in a similar position (hugely talented player, attitude has been questioned, called a choker, failed in finals before etc..). LeBron must of heard the interview and tweeted some support, nice to see!

Sounds like Andy was inspired by LeBron - who sounds like a pretty big deal!

Apologies for my ignorant questions BTW. I have a smattering of NFL knowledge but that's about it for US sports.

Welcome aboard! (he looks big - is he a famous basketballer too?)

Yeah, he was part of the Dream Team in the 1992 Olympics. He's a Hall of Famer who never got a Championship, so you can understand why he feels supportive of Murray.

Hopefully the Murray bandwagon will gain some momentum as the Muzz returns to the North American Hardcourts and heads towards a USO title :)

The Murray bandwagon at full steam now.
I notice a lot of bitterness on the forum this morning.
Must be the nasty spoilt kids before they head off to school.

neh.. I still believe the Federer-Nadal-Djokovic reign is far from over. Even though Murray won, I think the match was more or less on Djokovic's racket. He dictated play the majority of the match, but the mental aspect of the wind was too much for him to overcome.

Murray ran Djokovic ragged consistently hitting alternate corners.
That takes great skill.
The match was every bit as much, or more, on Murray's racket.
When Djokovic loses, sometime it's not always because he played bad.
I can't see anyone else outplaying and outlasting Djokovic on his form last night.
Djokovic certainly did not play bad. Murray made him look bad to you because he lost.
I can tell you Djokovic was not bad, in fact, he also played out of his skin.

If he retains some of that skill when the time comes for parenting he will be in good stead. All my friends with babies have a hard time putting them to sleep. Murray's skills work wonders with grown-ups maybe one day he can replay this final to his baby. ;)

On a more serious note, I think you're being a little harsh on Djokovic. He genuinely tried hard to break up Murray's monotonous cross-court rhythm. He was the one who spiked his shots more often, he was the one that came rushing to the net (ill prepared but still). Some elements of Djokovic's play during the final will need more analyzing than Murray's.

Murray's win last night was a minor miracle.
I thought Djokovic was outstanding and am still in disbelief how Murray managed to beat someone like that. I don't mean to be disrepectful to Djokovic. I'm probably reacting to some of the bitter posters on here now trying to dismiss Murray's achievement.
When I say he outplayed and outlasted I should qualify that by saying only just outplayed and outlasted.
There wasn't much in it.
Last night was the first time I've seen anyone physically outlast prime Djokovic.
No wonder Murray was limping like a cripple after the match.
On another note they are going to have to speed up the courts otherwise these guys are going to have a short career

Is number 1 next or is that too greedy? :), certainly has a great chance though obviously not important now after reaching the slam promised land! 5 hours almost giving up a 2-0 set lead with more swearing than I've heard at most comedy shows, wouldn't have it any other way really.

Had to revive this thread. Suddenly, Murray seems to have grew on me. I still think Djokovic will win (he's my pick for every tournament) but I would like to see him win Wimbledon. I'm surprised Batz didn't revive this thread.

4 years i've been posting in here, amazing the highs and lows over that time.

The Wimbledon final last year was so special, yet sad at the same time. Hopefully it can have a happy ending this time round.
