I expect this match to be close, closer than most people think.

Roger is now walking into this match cold, and Berdych has split his last 6 meetings with Federer.

I don't see this going less than 4 sets.

Federer in 3 or 4 at most. Federer looks in form and an in form Federer has never lost to Berdych that I saw.

Looks like Fish fogninid Fed. :)

Except Berdych is a mental midget, so Federer will most likely win in either 3, 4 or 5.

If a guy pulls out, they should have to make an alternate in place.. A guy shouldn't just get to SKIP a round completely.. Not when theres only a handful of rouds

Fed will be fresh as a daisy..

The only option would be the person that was defeated by the person that pulls out, but why should he proceed to the next round when he was eliminated fair and square?

let's not tempt fate, 2009 wasn't that long ago when Del Potro won the whole thing and 2010 is even nearer when Berdych made it to the finals!... those who forget their history...

It's a shame Nadal isn't playing US Open 2012, it would have been fun to see Federer try to go through Berdych, Nadal and Djokovic. (Not that he would have got past Nadal in the semi-final anyway, since Nadal doesn't lose to Federer in slams.)

Ignore him. He's another Weak Era Troll - just hates seeing Roger eclipse everything his idols did. Why would tennis change the rules? It happens so infrequently.

So a player could win a slam having actually lost a match. brilliant system. and not surprising coming from a sampras fan who could not win the yec once out of 5 times without losing a match.

also fresh as a daisy but rusty as hell.

Who was on the other side of the net of Federer in the 06,07 Wimbledon finals?

Shame Nadal isn't playing....he wouldn't have gotten past Berdych,Tsonga, Ferrer!

Nah Murray will still be drawn in Federer's half. And Nadal will have lost to Djoker in the semis by then and they won't meet.

He said an in form fed and he was pretty bad back in 2010 wimbledon (2009 fed won the title) berdych has won another 3 times i think, so i still think he has a chance.

good catch. he took at arod in 2009. what was wrong in 2010?

He just played badly that year, in the first round he was 2 sets to 0 down vs Falla. He had some thigh strapping early on but then he said he was fine after the first couple of matches.

I mean Berdych has often troubled him so it was a fair win, but Federer was not playing very well that year at all.

And what about Wimbledon 2008, and Australian Open 2009 and 2012, and Roland Garros 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011?

another poster just told you he beat nadal in slams and also bagelled nadal 3 times on 3 different surfaces in 3 different countires which is a world history record

also fed in 3 sets max 4 if he gets sloppy

So Nadal always beats Federer in slams.....nooooooo! Yes Nadal won majority of the encounters.....but it not like Federer hasn't won any of them. I know it was 5 years ago.....but it not like Nadal was a chump back then!

Federer never beats Nadal, except when he does. But that doesn't count because Nadal was injured those ten times.

Anyway, this is a pretty dangerous encounter for Fed and I expect a 35% chance of upset. Overall going to go with Fed in 4 with the 4th set going to a tiebreak.

wimb. 2009. birdman won

You mean 010 and Federer was not inform was carrying an injury.

That said Federer now is not the Federer of previous years. The way to beat him is to come at him with power and close the net. Berdych is the perfect type of player to beat this Federer on this surface. Have not seen how Berdych is playing, but if he plays well then this can easily go 5. Federer will also be rusty from not having played a match in so long.

Shame that Fish had had to withdraw and hope he is okay. However, Federer's walkover changes everything in this slam. Realistically unless there was rain on Sunday he at best was going to be thrashed by Djokovic on the final. Now if he can beat Berdych and win his semi in straights he is the favourite.

Exactly. Federer has only beaten Nadal when nadal has lost. He's never beaten Nadal a single time when Nadal has won, which shows you he can't beat nadal unless nadal loses.

I expect Federer of 2012 to have too much weapons and too much confidence to be upset by Berdych. I'd say Fed in 3 or 4 tight sets. However, the upset is far from impossible. Interesting quarterfinal.

Not an ideal situation for Federer. Not playing today may break his tournament rhythm and Berdych is dangerous. Expecting five sets if ******** shows up. Will win nevertheless.

I think NSK and 6-1 6-3 6-0 are different, 6-1 6-3 6-0 seems more like a kid than NSK. However, it could be that NSK has split personality.

Agree somewhat. NSK would at least try to justify his posts with some intelligence unlike 6-1 6-3 6-0.

They do post the same pointless stats mind you.

As of this moment, this match looks likely to encounter weather issues. Forecast may change by then.

Im hoping for this... could be a good match to watch. Im not a Fed hater/**** like some but I kinda want to see something new. Berdy is an underdog with something to prove... I like that.

Is it seriously questioned here that they are the same person? They are. It's freakin obvious.

Are you serious? You think people should believe that Federer would have been "thrashed" by the guy he bageled on a hard court not less than a month ago? I would like to have some of what you are smoking.

If I had to pick, I would pick Djokovic to win a Sunday final between the 2 especially since Fed would have to make I thru Murray (also not a given). But only a fool would think it would not be a close match with Djokovic.

You do realize the
Sat 2 times they played in the US Open Djokovic had to save match points? And the last time they played on a hard court Djokovic got bageled?

Sorry for repeating myself, but I am still struggling to get over the mental gymnastics needed to believe that one should think that "realistically, Federer would get thrashed" based on all the historical evidence we have.

Yep, 8-2, and has won every meeting since 2007.

Roland Garros SF 2005: Nadal wins in 4 sets.
Roland Garros F 2006: Nadal wins in 4 sets.
Wimbledon F 2006: Federer wins in 4 sets.
Roland Garros F 2007: Nadal wins in 4 sets.
Wimbledon F 2007: Federer wins in 5 sets.
Roland Garros F 2008: Nadal wins in 3 sets.
Wimbledon F 2008: Nadal wins in 5 sets.
Australian Open F 2009: Nadal wins in 5 sets.
Roland Garros F 2011: Nadal wins in 4 sets.
Australian Open SF 2012: Nadal wins in 4 sets.

The last four meetings have been Nadal in 5, 5, 4, 4. Nadal will win every subsequent encounter in 4 sets or better.
