Tomic 'it's being a long year'

like really, I don't get this kid. He didn't go deep in any tournaments he played this year (well, QF at the AO I guess). He'll be 20 yo in a month. This old cow Federina is 31yo, playing like Mizz Daisy. Novak was 20 yo when he won his first major. Nadal was 18.

I just don't get it. I'm trying so hard to support these 'youngsters' but I keep getting more and more annoyed by them every day. they behave like stars, yet they won nothing, plus they are tired. right, go figure.

I'm trying to warm up to Dimitrov and Raonic, and it's not easy btw, but I can't stand this Tomic mug. Is he like a God given thing to Australia. Ozzies, please help me understand this. what went wrong with this kid? How can a 20yo one get bageled by a 'grandpa' Flo?

The more he talks, the more damage he does to his image/his respect on tour...all sorts.

This kid just needs to shut up and work hard. If he's got any talent the results will come.

Personally, I cannot warm to his circus-like antics and his odd game-style. He comes across as a bit of a spoilt brat who just rolls over when the going gets tough, he needs to get this out of his head, if he wants to not fate his career as a journeymen he needs to hire a big name ex-player coach who won't accept accept his crap and fine-tune him into a solid top 15 player.

DY and BT should run their own head to head global exhibition match tour. Guaranteed stadium sellouts 365 days / year. Maybe an undercard featuring special guest stars like Horst Skoff and Jeff Tarango?

true dat. I might be naive, but some of these youngsters just talk so much and they can not back it up. IMHO, get some wins, try harder and stop complaining/whining. You are the young one, you should be able to do your best against anybody (including top 4), but you lose, and then you keep whining and looking for some excuses 'oh the season is so long, uh oh, whatever'.

again if 31yo Fed or 34yo Agassi were able to fight and win slams...what is the excuse for guys like Tomic?

Poor Tomic, good thing he doesn't go deep in tournaments otherwise he'd take a year off to recover. Guess tanking to Roddick at the US Open was an exhausting effort (sarcasm). He's got a **** poor attitude in general, his game seriously lacks any punch, and he act like he's a big star even thought he won nothing and he's not showing any kind of signs of improvement. I feel plenty justified when I say he's overrated and NOT a future superstar.

So far Tomic's highest claim to fame is perhaps his now ex-gf who probably got more camera time than him at the last Australian Open. Guess the camera liked her better than watching his boring paceless game.

Moronic thread. Beating on a guy who says he's tired? These comments happen because some journalist corners him and starts asking him how he's feeling, not because he parades around looking for something to complain about. The players "talk so much" because the tour requires them to have post match interviews and give time to individual members of the press. Tomic comes across as a young guy who's feeling the pressure and not handling it that well; I don't hear anything cocky in his tone. And older guys handle it better because they're used to it. True dat.

Tomic is a far, far better player than Donald Young ever was or will be, that is not an apt comparison.

He needs to work harder for sure.

He complains about the scheduling, yet he's still entered to play Stockholm, Basel, and Paris to finish the year. And he's been playing doubles, too.

Tomic really needs to make some serious changes for 2013.

yeah, but whatever, my point still stays. Tomic is trying to be a superstar in Australia ... he is not. and whoever said that he is not 'as experienced to give proper interviews' as "old dogs", missed the point here. no love for Tomic here ...

I can be the next Aussie to win a grand slam. I really work hard to get to where I am now. But then I wasn't born in Australia either. Aussie kids are generally so spoilt. They find it hard to employ any Aussies successfully where I studied so they employedme instead...

Whatever Tomic says or does, will never compare to the DISGRACE than was Andre Agassi. Agassi is proof that your past is irrelevant. Johnny Mac too. Lendl also. These 3 guys make Tomic look like a choirboy and model citizen. Tomic is HUMBLE and WISE by comparison.

Not only that, 2012 was the most he has ever lost at the ATP level with a big 26 in the "L" column! In fact, his winning % YTD in 2012 has actually declined marginally from the previous year, going 16-15 in 2011 to 26-26 this year.

Yep, this is really his first full year on tour. Yeah he has his fair share of maturity issues, but he's still only 19. He'll grow up eventually, he's probably learned a lot this year both good and bad on and off the court, hopefully he'll use it to become a better player in the future. No need for people like OP to come in bashing the kid.

At least he realizes a problem. Hopefully he'll want to turn it around and not go into a shell and stop caring like Gulbis has.

Fed's played 17 tourneys this year to Tomic's 26 (27 counting Shanghai). That's a hell of a lot of tennis. Even if you're not making it far in those events you still have to travel to and from, practice, hotel rooms, media, etc. He didn't say he was physically tired, he said he was tired mentally which is understandable given that he's 19 and it's his first full year on tour. Again, give the kid a break.

Totally irrelevant comment, especially given the most recent major winner. BTW how old was Fed when he won his first? Teens aren't winning slams in today's game, period. To try to say that he should be is just ridiculous.

Tomic is a national embarrassment to Australians. He's a spoiled brat whose only allegiance is to his own vanity. If he busted his ass he could be top 5 player but I have a feeling that he'll never crack the top twenty unless he dumps the tennis dad from hell and commits to a proper coach who'll kick his butt. The fact that he's giving attitude to Tony Roche during Davis Cup play shows the level of his ignorance of his place in the scheme of things. Men's ennis in Australia is in a grim place right now.
