Who are the best Freshman coming in next year?

This year, the big three all turned pro: Fratangelo, Peliwo, Krueger. That is pretty unusual. I think that leave a lot of very good players who were originally in the #4-#8 range, and we will have to see which ones become the best this spring. None of the guys who actually went to college were in the elite level where people are speculating that they might skip college. That is not to say that none of them will be college stars, because a couple probably will.

This year, it looks like Ronnie Schneider (early UNC commit), Mackenzie McDonald (northern California kid), and Connor Farren (also northern California, been sick lately, I think), although the group right behind them has some guys who are very competitive with them. Will be interesting to see if Stanford can keep one of the northern Cal elite kids home.

Looks like stanford is "High" on Farren's list along with USC and "Medium" on virginia. Mackenzie McDonald has been linked to UCLA through the grapevine but we will see obviously nothing is official.

Peliwo is Canadian and I don't think he was considering US college tennis. But, I may be wrong. His results this year are the results Americans should be striving for before deciding to turn pro.

I just listed him because he was on TRN. The British Columbia players are part of the USTA Pacific Northwest section and get USTA rankings, and their tourneys get picked up by TRN, etc. He was up to #2 on TRN behind Fratangelo before they both turned pro.

McDonald is going to UCLA or pro. I doubt Farren has the grades for Stanford since he has been homeschooled. Stanford needs to find some elite players. Right now they have a bunch of #4, 5, and 6 players. I do like their chances in the bottom positions, but definitely not the top.

Which means they have a bunch of #7 ,8, 9, 10s. I'm not even sure about the strength at the 4, 5, 6.
Farren's issue has been a wrist injury from last year (not sick that was McDonald but he is fine now). I would think a kid like MM would look beyond just UCLA, but don't know.

They have a deep team. The main problem is that most of these elite guys dont have the grades. Teams like USC and UCLA can take guys with 1500 sat scores, stanford can't.

Looks like UCLA will have the best recruiting class next year with verbal commitments from the no. 2, 5, and 13 seniors. They are certainly doing a good job in recent years with recruiting over USC.

New recruit gage brymer committed this week.

Hard to say who has the better recruiting class until the matches are played. You can certainly say that UCLA has had a strong 2 years, but you have to give the nod to the 4 time defending champs when stating "in recent years."

Dang! I was watching this one closely... Gage would have been a great recruit for Stanford. Did he have the grades and was he offered at place at Stanford?

yep, he is a top student at one of the best public schools in the state and country. great person too.

That's what I thought.... Why he didn't come to Stanford?? He would have been top 3 in the line up in his first year at one of the top schools and one of the most successful tennis program in the nation. And the campus is nicer than at UCLA...;-)

Very strong recruiting list for next year. UVA maybe able to compete with that with Daigle commiting, Kwiatkowski, Aragone and Corinteli just taking an official visit just this last weekend. Should be between these two schools in terms of best recruiting list. Throw Farren in that mix and UVA could look really good.

Peter Smith recruits foreigners for his core and fills the lineup with local kids who don't need a 'tennis full ride'.. I like his system but it's going to be almost imposible to fill Steve Johnson's shoes..

Any source we can check on this?

Ward Hibbert has been long gone from going to A&M.
Word was he was going to have to sit out a year no matter where he went (problems w/ transcript I think)

Not sure if it's well known but Junior Ore is also not in school at A&M this fall. Speculation is that he won't be back for the spring either.

Seemed like he was near the top of his class a few years ago, but then I think he had a back injury or other injury that somewhat set him back. Anyone know if he is back to 100% Is he still considered one of the top tier recruits in his class?

Daigle is a very good player. Still a blue chip and a strong recruit by any parameters. The other 3 are no slouches either.

Wow Texas A&M is the victim of too good of recruiting. Two top recruits not actually going there now.

There are couple of other notable recruits UVA may be getting. Boland has something up his sleeve, as usual. The team will have a lot of strong players even after Jenkins leaves next year.

"up his sleeve" is exactly right. Boland is the Calipari of tennis and that isn't a compliment.

Don't start

I heard from one of your own players, that Shane practices with his own coach and not with the team. That speaks volumes for your program.

That would be Justin Shane. Before we go any further with any of this, I just want to say that I know you have a great deal of knowledge and foresight into the program. In fact I have stated that before. But the things I'm hearing are not too be discussed on here. I know they are only accusations by probably some bitter people, but there just may be some truth into them. We don't need to air this out on here.

This is no surprise. The Shane's are spoiled rotten and way overrated. I expect Justin to take a major downturn this year.

You either have something substantial and reliable or not. If not, don't post it.

You seem to have a good insight into what goes on in cville. Corinteli committed and that was tweeted by zoo tennis and other sources. Any truth to Thai kwiatkowski committing as well. If so, then Daigle, Corinteli and Kwiatkowski are a pretty strong bunch of freshmen for next year.

All I know is that we have been recruiting Thai. I know nothing about a commitment.

Dude, come on. Don't take a jab, and then claim innocence. That's some weak stuff.

I know that Vrabel is considering UVA as well, and he's from VA.

I ve heard that too but I don t think that Vrabel will go UVA without a solid chance of playing for the team. With the team Boland assembled, Vrabel will not get to play. I heard that JC Aragone may be a possibility.
