Not really sure where to put this but..

Found this footage of Mirka playing against Seles! Hadn't ever seen her playing tennis before and thought it would be interesting.

Also ... she's using a ball clip! Though that was funny ;)

Thanks for that! She does look quite good there. Shame that injury finished it for her. I like Mirka! She is a very classy lady! :)

She puts to shame all those trophy GF's and wifes of the current players, when it comes to tennis and understanding what is going on in their husbands' and boyfriends' lives.

Boooohoooo. The Wife of the GOAT (WGOAT).

Totally agree, I love how Federer and Mirka have a special relationship that seems completely genuine.

Steve Tignor, Executive Editor, Tennis Magazine:

"Regarding Mirka’s role, I’ll defer to the opinion of Federer’s mother Lynette, who was recently asked her evaluation of the importance of his wife in her son’s career. Lynette responded that Mirka was not only “very important” in her estimation, but “essential” and that Roger’s success was really the success of Roger and Mirka together, though she was not sure if Mirka quite realized this. A mother generally knows her kid.

Thanks Prisoner. Got to hear Mirka talk! :). Her and Roger are so cute there together. Such love birds! Lovely!

I was surprised. I always sort of "knew" what she would sound like even though
I never heard her speak so this video came as a big surprise. I expected her to sound very, very different.

I've heard her say 'thank you'(what is my life right now) before, so I knew she had a 'sweet' voice. I was curious to what her accent would be like, though. :) I wonder what language(s) the twins speak.

LOL, when was that?

Oh woops, I was actually meant to write that! It wasn't in real life, it was on one of Roger's videos for . . .... something. Possibly coffee? Actually, thinking back, it wasn't 'thank you' it was 'hello'. Or maybe I have heard her say thank you before....either way, it was a behind the scenes video of Roger doing stuff. Sorry, my memory is rubbish.

I think she might sound very different today to what she sounded like back then (2002).

Yes because everybody is required to have a wife/gf that is devoted to their husband's career - this isn't the 19th century  Last I heard Jelena was getting a Masters degree in finance and Xisca had finished her degree in Business Administration. Look Mirka is awesome and its great for Roger to have someone so involved in his career but that is not to say that an ideal wife/gf should conform to that lifestyle.

Yes, the thing with Mirka is that she herself was a tennis player once, so she fully understands Roger's tennis life.

Jelena is getting a Masters degree to decorate Djokovic's dining room with it, and Xisca will be having a highly paid job within the mafioso financial structures of the Nadal clan.

It is absolutely hilarious, how they watch their BF play, without having a clue what is going on. Totally fake.

On the other hand, Mirka is absolutely on her right place in a tennis stadium and supporting her man, because she actually knows what he needs and goes through.

She was really cute back then. Great legs. :)

There seems to be a lot of Mirka hate on this board, which I suppose can be attributed to the immature participants. Federer was really funny back then when he spoke of Mirka, and there is nothing better than feeling like that. I feel sorry for those who can't understand.

He didn't say anything about it being necessary. It's just nice she's able to relate and understand more clearly than most wives probably are.

Sheesh.

Serioulsy, could you be more offensive? How do you know what Jelena and Xisca are doing with their lives? I am a Federer fan but kragster has a point about Mirka. I mean she basically gave up her ambitions and own career to follow Federer around the world and cater to him 24/7. I know she acted as his manager and helped him tremendously but that is not the point. It is not the best advice to give a modern woman to follow a man all over the world and sacrifice her own ambitons/goals. Very risky thing to do, plus I can't imagine it would be very fulfilling. But each to her own.

She gave up her ambitions to be a tennis player because of an injury. Life is too short to do what people think you should do. All that matters is if she is happy where she is. It doesn't matter if you would be happy in her place.

Yes, I know she had an injury and you are correct, all that matters is whether SHE is happy or not. She seems to be, but one never knows for sure, we don't see what goes on behind closed doors. I sure hope she is happy and they are happy.

Yeah, and has been using Nadal to further her career ever since. She worked at Mapfre first(gee I wonder how she got that gig?) and has now leeched onto his foundation and works for him doing something totally needless. Funny how she has no problem using him for success but then acts as if she's allergic to the media, and won't even utter a single word about him to her own family. It would be far more credible if she went out and worked at job not affiliated with Nadal, and made her own way. She's just a WAG is sheeps clothing. Lol.

Hilarious interview! Thanks for posting! Great to see Roger and Mirka playing Hopman Cup and not taking their tennis too seriously. Fred Stolle was also very naughty when he asked Mirka "suggestive" questions about Roger, :) It's a shame Peter Carter didn't live to see how successful Roger is, :(

Only interview I've ever seen Roger nervous -- when the questions were going to Mirka. But he had nothing to worry about!

This is about the Swiss Federer and Mirka. Not some place in Sweden where there is chocolate and cheese......?

I meant Swiss. Remarkable how Seles keeps her cool on the court knowing full well that Vavrinec is already getting entangled with the man likely connected to his countrywoman Graf who nearly succeeded in having her taken out.

Swiss is not a real country, it's just where German/French/Italian decided to stash stolen money, so they made up a country. Make no mistake - Fred and Graf played on the same team all along.

She really made Federer into Federer, both tennis wise and personality/public wise She deserves all the credit she gets

You missed the irony in my posts, didn't you?

However, there is some truth to what I say. Especially about Mirka and the comparison with the other two. ;)

And, if you think, that a proper relationship could be maintained withóut compromises, you are sorely mistaken. The more influential career one of the partners has, the more compromises should the other partner make. In Federer's case and his monstrous career, it is clear, that Mirka was supportive all along.

Now, I wouldn't speculate too much about how the relationships of the other two go (since I am not all that interested in that kind of "information"), but it seems to me, that Federer and Mirka are having much more fulfilling relationship, than either Djokovic/Jelena or Nadal/Xisca. Especially in Nadal's case, where his GF is away from him most of the time, it looks almost like artificial relationship (think about having a GF for 4-5 years, seeng her for maybe 1/5 th of the year all the time, I cannot imagine that being proper relationship, but whatever).

So, in short, yes, Mirka is much more closer to the ideal wife for a tennis player (if such thing exists, at all), than either Jelena or Xisca.

Mirka did not really give up her career for Federer. She was severely injured and was not likely to be back in the top 100 anyway. Only then she decided that working a year on recovery for a life as a top 200 journeyman was not worth it, given Fed's potential.

Did anyone notice or is it just me - Her serve is similar to a tuned down version of Fed's serve - not the action but the way she places them and speed - 116 mph is good for a WTA player. Fast enough, often on the T line... I'm sure it would be too good, even if not a killer, even today.

I find it a shame that Mirka never gives any in depth interview. I hope they once will do like an hour or hour and a half together once Roger's career is done and they can go back to Switzerland. Woud be really interested to hear how Mirka feels about all of it. Stuff like how it feels to give up her career, and to adapt all the time, never stay in the same place for long. What for her were the biggest highlights. How she manages not to be jealous and what she feels when a story like the Tiger Woods one comes out, how she gets along with Roger's parents, what her own dreams AFTER ROger's career are and whether she'll pursue them.
