Using cotton twine would be the closest to a cotton version of gut right?
I'm not sure about cotton, but I'd like to see them make strings out of hemp.
What about spider's silk?

Echo weed trimmer line works great if you can get a thin enough guage. EXTREMELY durable, and those sharp edges literally tear the felt off the ball. Great feel too...

Id pop cotton strings in 1 hit
Would weed trimmer strings work in an actual thin gauge lol?
Yes, there is a whole thread on this, and its a cheap alternative.

Well being that guy that gets Dunlop stuff really cheap, I'm somewhat obligated to say this: Dunlop Silk.....
I can't imagine you actually use that string.
I was making a joke. You can really play with weed trimmer line? Seriously?
Never! Its the most mediocre/blah multi ever...
Very stiff too. Not smooth as Silk like I was expecting.
My friend CLAIMED his uncle used piano wire for tennis strings.

"Piano strings are among the most demanding of all applications of steel. Placed under high tension, they are subject to repeated blows, they are stretched and slackened during tuning and are still expected to last for decades."
Sounds like they hold their tension at least.
Metal wire
Metal wire, usually piano wire, was used in some historical racquets.

Let's try a hybrid. The crosses of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia, Cotton, and Hemp. Mains of WeedWhacker string. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 5 sets on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.
Did you major in Agrostology?
No but have a license to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations.
