Nadal To Leave IMG Agency!

Eeyore isn't much of consolation prize for losing Fed and Nadal. IMG is a mess right now so I don't blame either one of them for jumping ship. Eeyore is a dummy for going to them considering IMG is going under at a rapid pace.

"Dummy"??? I think not. Going to an agency that's having problems puts you in a position to get more favorable terms. If the agency were to go under you simply move your account to another one.

IMG is in a disarray. It is being sold off and split up. I do not think that going to a company that can't even keep itself together is going to be able to do much for Eeyore. You also have to factor in his lack of popularity because if the public ain't buying it won't matter what he's selling.

Djokovic is in the prime of his career. Federer and Nadal are nearing the end.

True Fed is old and Rafa finished but Djokovic is just not a charismatic player.Being N0 1 doesnt make you so.

Well the tennis world sure found Djokovic 2.0 charismatic for a while there eh? Basically beside themselves at the path of destruction Djokovic was leaving in his wake, crushing Nadal everywhere and ripping the #1 ranking from his hands literally!

You either charismatic or not. There is no such a thing of being found charismatic for a while. He is a top 3 player for the last 6 years he has an amazing 2011 followed by pretty good 2012,of course he will have some kind of fame and there will be some people who admires him.He is just doesnt have a star power like Borg and Agassi used to having,Fed and Nadal has.

Fed never had the slightest charisma and look what they've done with him! At least, Djoko is funny and easy to relate to, 2 things Fed is definitely not. I say their task will be easier with Djoko (provided he keeps winning of course).

Have you ever seen his Nike or Lindt commercials(especially the last one)? Nadal has ZERO charisma.

Federer doesn't have any charisma. And all Nadal does is grunt and 'vamos' his butt off. You think anybody would care about these guys if they only had 2-3 Slams respectively?

That's exactly what I'm saying: if they can make enjoyable commercials with the dullest guy on earth, they should be able to do even better with an actual fun guy. Bring them on!

Federer's charisma is his 17 Grand Slams and historical significance, making him the greatest tennis player in the history of the sport. THAT is why people gravitate towards him. Give him 2 Slams and he'd be NOTHING!
Give Nadal 2 Slams and he likewise would not be any kind of hot sh*t because he just doesn't stand out with such little accomplishments. That's how sports work.
Do you think Usain Bolt would be such a big deal if he wasn't the world's fastest man? You gain a natural presence and charisma when you are the world's best.

Federer has oodles of charisma and is the most popular player since Borg and Agassi, hands down. I know you hate Federer, but that does not change the fact that he is popular. Djokovic will never approach anywhere near Federer's popularity no matter how many slams he may win.

The most charismatic and popular tennis players have been: Borg, Agassi, Federer and Nadal. The rest could fall off the face of the earth and it would not matter.

Federer wouldn't have been a big deal with only 2 Slams to his name. Nadal likewise. You have to stand the test of time which means yo prove you're not just a shooting star who fizzled out. Federer and Nadal have been in the game for many years. Their rivalry was red hot before anybody had even heard of Djokovic.

Safin would've obliterated them all if you give him Federer's 17 Slams.

Safin never had patience with the off court stuff so no I don't think so. It takes a special type of person to be able to handle all of the off court pressures gracefully as Federer does. I don't think Safin was ever that guy.

You have to understand Maria Sharapova made huge deals with companies after she won her first major title back in 04.because she is markatable,She still wins more money off the court then Serena.Look what happened to Djokovic after one best years ever on the circuit 2011 there isnt that much jump for him from the sponsors and the public.I hope you understand my point.

I don't think very much of it has to do with charisma, actually. Federer isn't naturally charismatic. It has more to do with marketing carving out a particular image/brand for an athlete and running with it. They realized that Federer could be marketed as this elegant, classy, Swiss gentleman (of course it helps that he's goat/among the goats). With Nadal, marketing could advance the image of him as a hardworking, never-say-die bull; his physical presence/persona speaks for itself. Neither one of those guys are especially charismatic in interviews.

Djokovic needs a niche as dictated by marketing more than anything else.

Oh come on, Fed has no charisma. He got teased for that early in his career (anybody remembers that personality chart? It was hilarious). What he has is a million slam titles and his ballerina thingy and that's it (I agree with MS on this point). Outside of that he is a crashing bore. Nadal has sex appeal, Agassi is the embodiment of charisma (he was LONG before he started winning slams). Fed would be the quintessential non-descript guy if not for all his records.

Ha ha, can you imagine Davydenko imitating Shakira?? Rofl I can't imagine a guy being less like Djoko than Davy

ETA: Fed is not handsome either and he's rather less approachable/likable

I don't agree with you. For me Federer has tons of charisma and even did when he was in his goofy long-haired stage. I was an Agassi fan and agree he had a lot of charisma but Federer is right up there with him in my book. I agree that Nadal has charisma too but in a different way to Federer. Federer is elegant, Nadal has a boyish charm.

He doesn't have it in spades, no. He's not UNcharismatic but he's not especially charismatic by himself without the image that's been created for him. I'm cool with Fed but he doesn't ooze charisma. Look at Safin for an example of a tennis player who does.

I always though Safin was a big nothing. Never saw what all the fuss was about and never found him remotely attractive. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Kournikova was making more money with companies while winning nothing. They didn't care that she won anything. Still she got bigger deals than the Williams sisters combined for obvious reasons.

What did Safin ooze beyond ******ness? I'm talking about real friendly nature. Fed was raised right, he didn't sleep around. He found Mirka and that was the woman for him. I remember when he kissed her after winning 2007 Hamburg on court, that was a special moment.

Agreed. Safin always looked dirty and infested with std's. He does nothing for me at all.

Safin was very good looking (like Haas) and he had presence. Of course all of this is very subjective, so arguable.

Safin is not attractive to me; Haas is a different story. He is very good-looking, movie star good-looking imo.

Safin is a tennis gigolo - that doesn't make him charismatic. To me Fed's ability to have these interviews during slams(AO, USO) where he comes off like a regular pro is amazing.

I won't argue back and forth about Safin and Fed but I think the bottom line is that it's hard to claim that Federer is THAT much more naturally charismatic as a person than Djokovic or whoever else. If you put them both in room without knowing who they were, I don't think most people would think that Federer is far and away more charismatic. Fed is popular with the casual fan because of his winning ways (most of all) and the image that's become associated with his brand. It's not because he's so amazingly movie star charismatic. The "problem" is that Djokovic doesn't have an obvious image or brand beyond being a jokester and that sort of stopped years ago. I'm sure that's why he/his people signed with IMG, to help him with that.

There is more to being charismatic then making impressions of other players. Federer just oozes charisma when he does pressers and interviews.

Yes, I think Djokovic has a good personality but I don't find him charismatic in the same way a Federer or Nadal is.

I think we need to define what everyone means by "charismatic." I agree that Nadal and Federer have a certain charisma inherent in their particular personal brand for sure.

smoledman, seriously, most casual fans aren't watching a bunch of Federer interviews. They like him because, again, he wins a lot and they find his overall image appealing. Not because he's Mr. Charismatic in interviews. He is a "classy competitor" and everything surrounding him screams this. I guess could include his demeanor in interviews but it goes way beyond that to marketing and PR of the "RF" brand in the media -- just think of his endorsements. Novak doesn't have a similar niche.
