Welcome to the start of the 2013 season of the ATP Sudden Death League: Australian Open!

Rules of the game:

1. Every day of the tournament that day's matches will be posted. You pick one player who you think is going to win. It's a knock out-system: if the player you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If he loses, you're out.

2. Till the Round of 32, you have to pick one player per day. In the R16, quarters, semis and finals you pick one player per round.

3. During a tournament, you can pick a player only ONCE. Obviously it's important to make smart choices in order to get far. If you somehow have no players left to pick, you're out as well.

4. You can't pick a player from a match that has started already.

5a. If the player you picked retires during the match, you're out. If he retires before the match, you're allowed to change your pick.

5b. If the opponent of the player you picked retires, it counts like a win. However, you can't pick a player whose opponent had already retired from the tournament.

6. If you want to change you pick, make a new post quoting the old pick. Edited posts containing picks will not be taken into account.

SCORE FOR THIS TOURNAMENT
1 correct pick: 50
2 correct picks: 100
3 correct picks: 150
4 correct picks: 200
5 correct picks: 250
6 correct picks: 300
7 correct picks: 360
8 correct picks: 720
9 correct picks: 1200
Winner: 2000

Welcome back everyone! Hope you all enjoyed your 'off-season' and recharged your batteries for another season.

Reminder to ark_28, dcdoorknob, jamesblakefan#1 and Locotus. As winners of the 2012 WTF Elite Eight Event, here is your super classy prize:

For one event of your choice, you will have the chance to revive yourself at any tournament in the event that a player you have chosen has eliminated you. For example, if ark_28 chose Cilic for the Australian Open, and Cilic was eliminated, ark_28 can choose to use his Elite Eight prize to revive himself. HOWEVER, you must choose a replacement pick for same order of play in to revive yourself and continue on with the tournament. Once you have used that player, you cannot use him again for the remainder of the tournament. If the player you have chosen to revive yourself lost, you will also be eliminated. This prize cannot be used if the player you picked was the playing the last match of the day (to avoid the event of a walkover (see the FAQs in the league file for walkovers in the last match).

If you are to use your prize, you must let myself, CDNguy87 or kishnabe know about this.

Also, I don't know about you guys, but I'd prefer not to run Davis Cup this year. Do you guys think it should be eliminated?

Final note: Your points that you've earned at the Olympics will be dropped after the Rogers Cup.

Hoping to do better this year than last. By the way, you never got back to me on the status of the WTA SDL. I'd still be very willing to run it (big events only, please).

See the WTA event thread and look at the WTA SDL Staff :)

BD, I'm still reserving that set of string for you, but you better win soon! (quick edit: tell me if you want to be rewarded, as otherwise I'll buy a pair of Dunlop Bio 100's for myself as I found them RIDICULOUSLY cheap!)

And I should also announce that I am the man with the most obscure alias from the Simpsons, and I'm hereby entering both SDL's.

Lol, you don't have to but it's a nice gesture. I think that Wimbly win for me is probably gonna be the only time I win a slam. So many things had to go right for me during that fortnight.

I'll do my best this time. I just want to make the Semi-Finals, and I'm good. :)

I'm in, but what is the purpose of the "pick at your own risk" list?

Multi-tasking here...first, I'm in; second, for edmondsm's clarification...it's a list of known trolls who have caused mass exoduses from SDL play in the past...simply a warning to pick 'em at your own peril!

It's a warning that these players have been known to troll hard in the past and will likely do it again. So if you pick them, they might just burn you and lose to a player ranked much much lower than them.

Well then! New racquets and the hardest thing for an introvert (asking someone out) it is for me then!

Ahh I see. I would have never picked Donald Young. That guy could find a way to lose to a can of soup.

I'm in...this is my first Australian Open, and I'm a little nervous about keeping track of the time difference.

This should be helpful. I have never done the Australian, so I need to be careful. Just remember to do it by 7:00 P.M, though that is going to be hard somedays.
