Cmon man, that fool had been hopping on 1 leg for 3 weeks. It was dumb of shanahan to keep playing him. Im sure Capt Kirk is faster than rg3 and can change directions faster. I knew wash. would be skrewed if he came out with same giant brace on. Sigh

So, my mixed combo team got taken out....by RICHMOND! ARGHHHH! *shaking fist* Lost 1-2, and both losses were TB. One was close. One was not. I played one of them.

AQ...I'll email you the players...just curious if you know them. The gal was solid, and had a good serve. Either that, or I especially sucked in that match.

Ended the weekend like my team, 2-1.

Tri-level sectionals in two weeks, and then it may be a while before I get to go anywhere as a 4.0.

No need to email. I did the tennislink lookup. That Richmond team is a bit of a surprise...as they are one of the smaller clubs with no indoor courts. Don't know the guy. While I've never played the gal, she's played plenty of people I know well. Probably solid but not flashy. Sorry things maybe didn't go to plan.

And, sorry, no delivery on cakes. :p

I survived but it was cold... even with me wearing over 1k worth of Arcteryx gear. The big fire we made helped though but then it started hailing on us and then it turned to freezing rain.

My buddy has a friend that makes moonshine and it was seriously good. Only problem was, I had to take a **** at like 0200 and it was so cold outside of my sleeping bag that I seriously thought about just peeing all over myself and going back to sleep.

Fist time I've been camping since I was about 10 years old.

I don't have the heart to put a pic of another fallen Adidas player. Rg3 please reconsider. Ugh

i dunno... seems to me like the guy wearing nike made the biggest mistake of the season by keeping RG3 in the game after the 2nd touch down.

didn't he do that to t.davis back in the days of broncos

I think alot of it was that the o line gave out on the 4 qtr bcz they had to hold the line longer than usual. seahawks caught on and blitzed alot more.

Well, maybe I'll have to stop by and get one on my way to VA Beach in two weeks! ;)

You know, it was a very strange match. My partner and I both were pretty unfocused, too. I couldn't hit a forehand return to save my life. He had some service issues. Still, we pulled out the second set.

Into our third TB of the weekend...we cruised through the others. We got down 0-3 and then the wheels just really came off. I reached for a ball that was going out. Dumped an easy volley into the net. My partner insists he made misses too, but it seemed like the other pair smelled the blood in the water and just played really aggressively. Smart too.

This was the first tournament where I really felt like other teams were just gunning for NOVA. There was a big contingent cheering for our opponents in that match...to the degree of cheering unforced errors. And even after I was near beaned in the head. I thought it a bit...tasteless? It was after that that we actually pulled ahead in the second set. I don't usually play better when I'm mad, but there was twice this weekend that that happened. Someone should have pissed me off before the tiebreak.

The gal was solid with a strong serve, and he had a great serve...he had the flash with the consistency, too. I had done a bit of research on the team, and didn't pay much attention to anyone who hadn't been bumped up...so I didn't see either of them coming. I was worried about the guy that our number 2 team played (and beat)...they said he was wildly inconsistent and just missed more and more as the match went on.

I actually met and talked a bit to the captain of the team from Tidewater that won it all. Her team beat the other NOVA team in their first match, and she was literally stunned...at the salad bar, just couldn't stop talking, in a lot of astonishment, about how they *never* beat NOVA. (sorry Downs, but at least you guys made the final!)

Damn, I just checked Downs' record this past weekend: 9 - 0! And this includes an impressive 'bagel' set vs. Vinnie.

I'm just glad he's on the other side of the draw at Tri-Level next weekend. Our 4.0s are good, but I don't think any of them could take Vinnie, regardless of who his partner is.

Yes, we do have a couple 4.0s who could be 4.5s, but they would be weak 4.5s. Downs is a legitimate 4.5, and two other players on his team are now 4.5s.

Our 4.5s are strong, but so are other teams (two players on Chris' team are now 5.0s).

We don't plan on advancing anyway, so you'll see us out at the bars for most of the tournament...

I'm not getting in until Saturday evening, so please have all the best bars scoped out for me ok? ;)

We have such a bizarre schedule. Monday will be brutal for those that make it through.

Question on mixed doubles etiquette: Is it taboo to hit consistently at the female if she can't handle pace? Had my first mixed dubs match of the season and its the first time I actually tried this strategy.

haha...thanks! V also had 9 matches that weekend, so I'm sure he was running on fumes too -- he eventually started turning it on, and it was actually a really fun match after the first set...that guy has great hands at net!

tri-level should be fun! i really have no clue about our 3.5s...and i know moco has solid players all around (since i was on that team too) -- i heard the facility down in va beach is pretty nice...i'm just excited to not play 9 matches in 3 days! haha...

what's for lunch?

i mean, i don't think you should be pegging it at her head or face (topaz, sorry about that one time in practice haha) -- but if you're dipping it at her feet -- or if both players are at net and you have the option...then yeah, it's totally fair game...if my mixed partner is getting hit at consistently, then i feel like i'm not doing my job to protect her (aka hitting deep / hitting good enough 2nd serves or just doing my job in general to make sure we are winning more points)

Yes, facility is exactly 1 year old. Why do I say exactly? Because, as Topaz will verify, they were still building it last year as we played. Seriously, there were all sorts of power tools running during the matches, as well as construction workers walking in the area above the courts.

I felt bad for some of the women who were effectively 'on display' for all the construction workers to ogle. None of them actually whistled , but you could wipe the drool off the courts from them hanging over the railings above.

We have 4 matches. I'm scheduled to play two on Friday & one Saturday. I may have to play the 4th depending on who shows/injury/hangover. We only have three 4.5s that qualified (long story).

Dats - curious why the RDIS200 didn't work for you? Specs look too nice not to tinker with...haha Strung one up but I have to get onto the court to try it out!

Monkey - you should try one of the Volkl pro stocks (~60 RA) I have weighted up to 330g and light SW ~315 - very stable and solid strung with gut/poly hybrid. Serves bombs pretty effortlessly and hits awesome slices and 1HBHs - and I can't hit those worth **** usually! haha Those are specs right up your alley!

that new o10 mid that's coming out in summer has some great specs. I wish I had the skills to wield that stick.

Still haven't tried the PB10 Mid out yet but based on reviews from many, it would be hard for them to improve on it.

Today's big spin game is pretty tough for mid hitters unless you are constantly on the attack and super aggressive. Try rallying with a mid vs. Downs' big topspin forehands...you're liable to shank a few shots ala Fed vs Rafa and IMHO nobody has better hand-eye coordination with a mid than Fed in his prime.

Try playing next to an old pro basketball arena while it is being demolished throughout the year!

Not nearly as bad, but during the summer a Harley Riders group meets across from the courts we played at (where you missed the turn). It takes a good 5-10 minutes for them to clear out. During that time, not only can you hear them, you can feel them.

Childs play compared to playing downtown in a relatively large city. :)

You actually got my shoulder...cause I'm good at dodging! ;)

I will agree with this...basically the only time I get brassed off is when it is at my head, hard, and people cheer afterward.

Basically, we only play 1 team: Stonebrook (in Winchester). We have 8 matches total: 4 here, 4 there. Their 4.5s defaulted the last three matches, ours defaulted the last two, so only 3 of our players got a match in.

There's more, but that is the jist of it.

Depends. Right now I'm staying Saturday night but heading home early Sunday to play an 8.0 'old persons' match w/ my wife. But if we make it to the finals, we will have a match Sunday @ 6PM, so I may stay if it looks like I'll be needed.

PaulMan - rdis200 was smooth, comfy, plush, and had a good power and decent spin. i sort of messed it up by making them longer and making the SW ridiculously high. but even when i unmodded them, i played better with the head igSpeeds. more control and easier to get spin on serves.

~~~~
have i mentioned the vcore89 phase is over already? just not enough spin for me. i also realized that i had messed up my blxpros and igspeeds by adding lead at 12oclock and jacked the swingweight and balance.
the only thing the vcore89 does better for me is backhands and 1st serves. but my game depends on a reliable 2nd serve (that is harder than my 1st.. har) im going to remove the lead off my other racquets and try them again.
if i can fix my backhand stroke with the blxpro or igspeed... i think my match play will be better served with an easier racquet. blxpro gives me more ability to blast through the court but igspeed has spin and lots of control. sigh... if i played more i might be able to actually figure this out.
~~~
anybody want a barely used 1x vcore89? no skratchez! im asking TW if they will take it back or give me any value for it.

Thanks Dats. Huh, I would have thought the RDIS200 would have impressive control and massive spin - such open string pattern. So much more open than APD too, which gets quite a bit of spin.

oh it hits nicely!. it feels like a plush/flexy pure drive. i actually used it over the igSpeed for a while based on the amazing feel alone. it has a heavy solid feel that really pancakes the ball... but not the most maneuverable frame for me.

Got half a set of 17g Prince Beast I want to try. Wondering if I should put in some good multi (cross) to offset any harshness for this poly? If not, I'll just cross it with some el'cheapo OGSM 17g and string it low.
Just got my 3rd NYC from ****. Going to play it near stock. Only minimum lead on 12 and 6 and bridge. Even enticed to just put some heavy tape on the bumper guard.

Actually, he was not on our Tri Level team. I think he had too many mixed leagues going at the time to play for us.

In retrospect, he should have played for us seeing as how his team (Big Shots) came in 3rd.

McLovin

I assume so. He's been on it for the past 3 years, but I think this year our captain is going to ask he declare which team he will go to the beach on. Not that he won't play if he declares for another team, but we need to know a priori (I love using that term) so we can qualify enough players.

Last year we almost got screwed by having exactly 8 players for the weekend as Vinnie & GP declared for their NOVA team. Luckily no one got hurt, but we still ended up 1 match short of advancing to the final round.

Our 4.5 club team went to Nationals this year. I did not play on it though. At Nationals, a few teams had ex D1 players recently out of college. I think with the 40+ restriction, if we can keep the same nucleus of guys then we have a shot this year. Only 1 guy on our team was under 40 and he is around 35 and was more or less a sub.

Wait...ex-D1 as a 4.5?!?! How the hell did that pass without some sort of protest? Our D3 college players were bumped to 5.0 after 1 season, and they didn't even wait until November. They were bumped immediately after Districts.

We talked about doing a 40+ 4.5 team (most of our players are 40+), but we would have to drive to NOVA for every match. We have a hard enough time getting everyone to play at home. 40+ minute drive ain't happening...

One guy was from Texas A&M. You can't get disqualified in Nationals so there is nothing our captain could do. The guy will be bumped after this season for sure. Our #2 singles guy had to play #1, so we were missing our line 1 singles player. Still, our #2 hardly ever loses to anyone at the Club and he managed just a few games.
