Jerzy Janowicz is better than Delpo and Berdych, he can dominate

This guy hits the ball with hatred, plus he comes to the net with fearlessness whenever he wants to. He's a good finisher. He has more variety and more tricks that make Delpo and Berd and Raonic look one dimensional. Plus his movement abilities look superior to Delpo and Berd. I became a big fan of JJ last night. He can do big things in the ATP, really big things. Gimelstob even said JJ's potential is "limitless. He can hurt you from any part of the court."

I don't think JJ is another fly by night Rosol, this guy can dominate. Janowicz is a very scary player. What do you think?

The dude has awesome hands and feel at the net for such a big guy. Sick groundies. Huge serve. Great court sense. Headed for top 20 and probably top 10.

He is crazy,He hit jumping backhands on nearly everything last night! Kills the forehand crosscourt. Great movement for 6"8.I worry about when he plays the really consistent guys though. He often will throw out 2,3 unforced errors for no reason in a game which will be punished by the better guys. Almagro will be a test and a good match and suits Jerzy imo as it will be a huge hitting contest.

Does he not quite look like 6 foot 8 to anyone, though? He looks like 6'5". Maybe it's just his frame, but even when shaking hands at net with Somdev who is below 6 ft. tall Janowicz still doesn't look 4 inches shy of 7 feet to me?

Well, if Gimelstob says it, it must be true! HAHAHA
JJ plays like a beast but he's not comparable to Del Potro. Delpo has very refined skills for a big man and moves amazingly well for his size.

To me JJ & Brands fill the Soderling void.

He hit some pretty lousy drop shots at 5-2 in the final set. His opponent was very happy to capitalize on them and get back in the game. His hands didn't seem all that great last night. The fact that it took him a laborious five set last night, combined with the kindergarden meltdown over a line call makes me doubt that he'll live up to the hype.

for a start no way is berdych better that del potro so you can forget about that...either mentally or weapons..(esp if del potro shows the increasing power and shot selection he had at end of last year, few more slices and drop shots etc),

jj has alot of weapons so its going to be fun..top 10 defo...

rosol vs rafa was a decent journeyman player having the match of the century..if he did that all the time he would be challenging for world no1 rank instead of world no70 rank, or whatever.

I like him a lot, but it seems like he has a very long way to go. Someone posted in a thread last night that they think he might not be ready emotionally for the huge and unexpected jump in rankings, and I think that might true. I love seeing that he has a lot of fight and doesn't let being down take him out of the match. I have a feeling he'll improve steadily this year and will be a factor in a lot of tournaments, but I'll be really surprised if he wins any this year.

He hit some great droppers too though and made it look easy, way better than guys of his size, and he volleys really well, better than Isner if that is saying anything. However, I agree , I was taken aback by his tantrum, didn't know he was like that, but we all get frustrated at times.

Yeah, I'm used to TT being nothing more than a bunch of clueless fanboys but this is just too much. I'm also starting to become a fan of JJ. But he's not better than his ranking indicates at the moment. Better than Berdych and Del Potro? Are you people stupid? Do Berdych and Del Potro almost lose to Devvarman? Del Potro just slaughtered his opponent yesterday, haven't seen Janowizc do that yet. I don't even know if he'll ever be as good those two, but he certainly isn't now. You've got to understand he has an everything or nothing style of play, usually not the kind of style you see at the top, for obvious reasons.

He was kinda robbed of the first set. His outburst is being shown on the national news now. That ball he was upset at looked pretty far out

he has some good tennis skills for sure

but i personally don't wanna see him being in the top 10
he acted like a monster yesterday...

and it's way too soon to say that he's better than del potro n berdy...

I like his personality. He's emotional, a fighter, and seems like a really good guy. I really hope he makes it big in pro tennis.

He didn't lost the first. 9-8 up in the tie and a clearly out ball from the Indian was called good. In the second, it was just a reflex of his head that obviously gone away.

In the third, he fought back, than in the fourth he opened up the bakery. In the fifth, Somdev did it "a la Rafa" and requested several MTO.

he's good, but not int he league of the players mentioned. long way to go. the higher up you are the tougher it is to move up in rankings.

the good thing about yesterday's match is that he managed to get back on track after his meltdown. that's a good factor.

let's see what he looks like against Almagro, a player far ahead of him in the rankings.

He is by far the most athletic big man to come up as of yet - I think.

He has alot of potential, hopefully he can maintain and improve his level.

Much more upside to his game than any of the young candidates to challenge the Big 5 (current slam winners club). His growth curve, from juniors to ATP, was very shallow until the last half of '12 but it all seems to be gelling now.

His recovery from two sets down last night speaks loudly of his mental strength. Granted, it was a hole partly dug by himself but a lot of youngsters would have continued the tantrum all the way to the locker room. He got his composure back and walked off winning a match that might have crushed the momentum he's gaining.

He needs to avoid any more long matches, especially if the weather heats up. He's in the dubs draw so he's got a lot of court time ahead of him.

He's pretty awesome and shows sick touch with drop shots and occasionally volleys, but this is a crucial year for him. He caught fire at one big tournament last fall and is suddenly a seeded player, meaning he is expected to win 2-3 matches per tournament. He'll have to do it easier than this for sure.

He is a nice guy, seems very humble in interviews (talks a lot about how it was a financial burden playing until 2012), but I get the sense he is still very raw and the grind of the tour might be emotionally difficult to handle at first. Might not be ready to contend for the biggest prizes for another 2-3 years. If he makes it at this level until then, he is a keeper.

The best description of Jerzy yet.

Agree.. I'm becoming a huge fan/believer in Jerzy's game and potential, but no way he's on Delpo's and Berdych's heels just yet. Especially Delpo, who appears back to true beast form.

After getting so wowed by Jerzy in Paris (epic potential film title, there), Jerzy in Melbourne has shown he still has some growing to do. He's gotten off to sluggish starts in both of his early rounds, and to me has looked a bit more sluggish than how he looked in Paris.

He's got a lot of tools for a guy his size, but he needs to play with more intention. He criminally overuses the drop shot. It's good he's got such a good one because it'll come in very handy when he bullies people 15 feet behind the baseline with his huge groundies, but he doesn't need to use it every other point. I like his willingness to come to net, too, and of course he has a killer serve. If he reign things in a bit and play a little less wildly, he might break into the top ten with the likes of Berdych and Del Potro, but right now I wouldn't say he's better than them.
