WQXR: Djokovic Is Among Top Five Famous Classical Music Fans

What books you read, movies you watch or music you listen to does not tell anyone about how intelligent you are. What university you went to, or what job you do also tells you nothing.

The only thing that tells people how intelligent you are is how quickly you can do speed math and how quickly you can spot patterns in those shape-shifting tests - basically, your IQ.

Hence, there could be a homeless, unemployed knucklehead who could never be bothered to read past 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and whose only hobbies were to get drunk and start fights - but if he has an IQ of 160 he'd still be much more intelligent than a Harvard-educated brain surgeon who listens to Chopin and reads Shakespeare but has an IQ of 120.

The beauty of IQ is that we can categorize people's whole intellect into a single stat and judge quantitatively with perfect accuracy whether they're brighter or thicker than the next guy.

And if we had some natural disaster and I needed to pick someone clever to stick with, I'd pick the homeless guy with the 160 IQ over the brain surgeon every time.

I really hope you're being sarcastic..

I was thinking the same thing. There is so much more to intelligence than an IQ score. Very narrow minded to think it's the end all be all of just how smart someone is.

yeah they had to be joking. THere is no definitive way to measure intelligence because there are so many facets to it and even if you could it would then depend on which questions you happened to get... but ultimately it's impossible to say.

It's like how you can't say who is the best tennis player ever or who is the most talent- there is actually no whay to measure it. In tennis we do so by achievements but then you can argue whether the test was bigger or smaller etc..

how smart someone is has nothing to do with intelligence.
intelligence is a mere capacity you have, which you may or may not use to its potential.
an intelligent man is not always deemed smart, but you can always safely assume for a smart man go be intelligent as well.

and to the poster saying he would rather stick together with a homeless 160 iq person than a brain surgeon after apocalypse, well sir, you are an idiot. the hobo, being more intelligent than you are, would beat you up with the stick and robe you off your clothes.

as far as the topic goes, its a load of rubbish. there is no way you* can prove that djokovic is more intelligent or smarter than federer/nadal or vice versa. and this comes from a Novak fan. so why the hell you bother, lol.

Are there any hipsters among the players? lol.

good question. Generally one who has spent at least some time in university would normally provide greater results. James Blake is a John Mayer type of guy. I believe they went to high school together. The Bryans are all over the map musically, I know. They both can play multiple instruments as well. Isner strikes me as Dave Matthews Band/Top 40 hip hop type of guy...same with Querrey. I don't know enough about Steve Johnson. Michael Russell does some DJing I know but that's probably contemporary dance music. I'd venture to guess the number of players who can name-check John Darnielle or Ty Segall is probably non-existent on the tour. Never know though. Maybe a quiet dude like Gilles Simon has Pitchfork bookmarked?

Regardless, you have a Harvard grad on tour, and Stanford alum like the Bryan Bros and Paul Goldstein, but Djoker is an intellectual because homeboy likes a Vivaldi track. Ok

Must practice all that chest thumping to Mozart's compositions.

One of the oldest myths that was proven untrue. If anything several researches sugges that trance music develops the child's intelligence more than any other.

We are not talking here about intelligence.

Gangnam, Slumdog, Guetta, djoking around like an ass, wearing wigs in ads... that should settle it for me.

So, it is not a fact but just your opinion?

Since you brought it up, you prove it.

What I have to prove?

The trouble is these days people are new-age hippies who are scared of being 'insensitive' by classifying people by stats. They're probably scared of themselves being classified as dumb if they do badly on an IQ test.

But really, IQ tests are the definitive way to objectively measure intelligence. You can throw all your achievements/education/career out the window - all you need is that score to know how bright someone is.

Iq tests don't prove how clever someone is because intelligence is too complex to solve with a simple test. Yeah great you might be able to see what pattern is being shown by some shapes but that doesn't mean you are intelligent enough to solve a practical problem in real life, doesn't mean you have common sense. my mother has a great iq and also displays such a lack of common or practical sense sometimes it's astounding. I've known people with high IQs but who were gullible and unable to do practical tasks as well as the next man.

not only that, but tests are devised by human intelligence to measure human intelligence . Do you see the paradox?

But I suspect you are tolling anyway. Either that or you like hard facts so like to think there is a test to prove exactly how smart you are when in reality they just tell you in what areas of intelligence you are good at. Also some people are like computers and good at doing maths etc but can't discuss things with any great level of intelligence. maybe you don't like to get into complex discussion so you just like to think the answer is simple. it isn't though.

You created this thread so why don't you prove that Nole is more intellectual than Fed and Nadal.

I have not made the claim that Djokovic is more intellectual than Federer and Nadal, and therefore I do not have to prove it.

LOL.

Fed likes some classical music as well, though I don't think opera. But he's had Beethoven and Chopin pieces on his i-pod. And last year he went with his mom to a Beethoven violin concert in Rotterdam for her b-day. OK, it was a b-day outing for her but doubt they would have gone if he hated that kinda stuff.

The Beethoven violin concerto is one of the greatest pieces in the repertoire. Fed's mom has good taste. :)

I do not see how anyone can make sensible argument to support claim that a donkey is more intellectual than Djokovic.

You mean random articles about traits which have been shown not to correlate at all with intellect?

And you say 'claim', and posted an article in the OP. Does this mean it was a 'sensible argument' to support your CLAIM that Djokovic was more intellectual than Federer and Nadal?

Help me out here, unless your goalposts have shifted.

Also, I never claimed anything. If you think one way or another, PROVE it so it becomes a fact i.e that Djokovic is more intellectual than an ass. Otherwise it is just your opinion that he is.

But accroding to you, statement needs to be proven otherwise it's just an opinion. And since you can't prove Nole is more intellectual than a donkey, what we have left is nothing but an opinion.

Collins Dictionary:
"intellectual = a person who enjoys mental activity and has highly developed tastes in art, literature, etc"

Can you quote post where I made the claim that Djokovic is more intellectual than Federer and Nadal?
