Becker and Edberg were certainly fantastic serve and volley fighters, but where Djokovic lacks that kind of dynamic game (like most male players today), he makes up for it in sheer tenacity...a kind of feverish pursuit of every point, and whatever he needs to add to his game in order to emerge as the champion. There is an electricity about him not to be found in any of his contemporaries. He was not that kind of player early on, and easy to criticize, but now he's in a higher class all his own.

Edberg also won three doubles majors, did the singles/doubles combo at the Aussie Open in 1987 and achieved the #1 ranking in doubles too which puts him much higher in my estimation still.
Likewise, Becker won back to back Wimbledons and three in total - again, a much more noteworthy achievement than Djokovic's Aussie Open efforts as yet (notwithstanding how old he was when he won his first major - the days of those sort of wins seem to be long gone).

It's not just tenacity, every all-time tennis great had it to a certain degree (otherwise they wouldn't have achieved so much though I do think Novak's play when he's back against the wall is a sight to behold.
Novak is a great ballstriker who is terrific at changing direction of the ball (like Davydenko and Nalbandian for example), there's also a certain beauty in his game when he's on and is hitting every ball deep no matter how hard you send it to him (he sort of looks like an unbeatable tennis machine), I also love when he gets aggressive on the return of serve (which most players don't do today because they're playing against other baseliners).
Beautiful tennis isn't restricted to serve and volley or all-court tennis, the most entertaining match-up in tennis for me is not two serve and volleyers or two baseliners facing each other but a baseliner against serve and volleyer and/or all-court player (Agassi-Sampras or Rafter-Agassi for example).

Sampras lovers turned Fed haters turned Nadal lovers are the biggest hypocritical trolls. They are so butthurt by Federer making their hero look pedestrian that even put up with Nadal saying Sampras is boring.

Serve and volley could get pretty boring too, you know, and many people complained about it. It's funny how much people lack perspective.

The funniest thing is Fed having nothing but praise for Sampras, Becker and Edberg and their games/playing style (all of them being his childhood idols) while Nadal considers their tennis boring/not being real tennis etc.
That said, Fed may have surpassed Sampras in many people's eyes but he's isn't making Sampras look pedestrian, Pete's still a legend as a player, that will never change.
