Nadal says he has still problems to his knee: I doubt he will ever win a slam anymore

I am a bit of a ********.... and I would like to see him winning and playing other slams, but I am not convinced by his comeback.

He was very slow in Vina del Mar and Brasil, clearly bothered by his knee.

Now Nadal says that he still has problems to his knee.

I do not think he is going to retire, but I can't see him competing anymore on a best of five match even on clay or grass.

It's sad, I hope I am wrong and he will win again in France, but I think he will go after short and light clay court tournaments from now on.

Nadal has said he needs to 'load' the knee through match play before it's right, but there will always be pain.

We have to wait until the FO to see if he can get completely back.

I'm not writing him off, but the comments I've heard like this are cause for concern. I'm highly skeptical that he'll be able to play at the level necessary to beat Djokovic, Federer, et al at Roland Garros. But, he's still got basically three months, and some big tournaments against tougher competition to get there, so I'll wait and see.

But, even if he doesn't win the French this year, I think we still have to see how he progresses over the entire year before we can get a better idea about whether he can return to Big 4 level.

Rafa is probably my least favorite of the top 4, but the sport is more interesting with him in the mix, IMO. I hope he can make it back.

Nadal won Roland Garros 2012 by numbing his knee with an injection. His knee is not at a stage right now where he needs to numb it. But why would you doubt him when you know he can beat Djokovic in 4 sets with absolutely no feeling in his kneecap? Nadal is a lock to win Roland Garros. You heard it from me first.

There are still a few months to go before the FO, so if his knee improves a bit he will still be the favorite.

This was self explanatory on the thread you started about Federer's fake PR charity ;-)
Anyway, sticking to the topic, Nadal will come back and win multiple slams, I doubt there is anything as severely wrong with him as is often speculated.

Nadal can keep numbing the knee for the FO the next 15-20 years.

Nadal will have a future in 250 tournaments, and that to make his father and uncle happy.

He is master of intimidation though. He will jump up and down and sprint to the baseline as usual and that may fool a few, but he is a wreck and he is going to make a few more guys famous.

The moral of the story is - you must have a very limited vocabulary if you need to confine yourself to the word "numb" in every single post you write.

Still too early to tell yet. We need to give him more time. Once a champion, always a champion.

He's ranked #5.

If he's still having problems with his knees now, then the rest of the year doesn't look very bright for him. He can numb it all he wants but he's clearly lacking the energy that he had in previous years.

Touche. Ralph is as usual playing down his chances, deflecting attention from himself. With all his knee problems, he hasn't missed a clay season since 2005, yea I believe him.

BTW, I won't be surprised one bit if he wins RG without dropping a set. Cheeky boy Ralph.

Actions always speak louder than words, wait for his performance in MC atleast before you write him off.

Reminds me of another prediction made back on June 28th:

I think this tournament sets the tone nicely for the Olympics. Assuming Nadal wins the gold medal here, he will become the ONLY man to win a gold medal on clay, grass and hardcourts at the Olympic Games. Truly straggering. By then, Nadal will have eclipsed Federer's slam record and will have added at least another 10 Masters 1000 titles to his collection, including potentially 10 Roland Garros titles. Add on to that a 10+ defense of Monte Carlo titles and a multitude of Barcelona and Rome titles. And Nadal is showing no sign of decline at all with his current form. Amazing.

. . . made right before R2 SW19.

Typical Rafa trying to lower expectations before a tournament. He has done this 1000s of times and people fall for it everytime.

Is he in an ideal condition to play? No! But this is the usual crap.

I hope he does well.

It is better for tennis to have him fit. He has been involved in some great matches with the other top players.

This thread is the official 2013 Roland Garros Final match thread. It might as well be. It will end the same way....
