Wow, surprised but it makes sense. He grew up in Jacksonville and he has had quite a few injuries the last few years. He was injured again while qualifying for a Wimbledon warmup and recovering in Jacksonville at his parent's place. Congratulations to him!

I heard that Butz is enrolled at UF this year but has decided to not play collegiate tennis any longer. Does anybody know why Tripper isn't on the roster this year?

Spencer transfered, Butz quit tennis, and Tripper got kicked off the team. Coach Shelton is having a rough start, but is doing everything right in my opinion.

Shame about Butz and Carleton. I always thought of Trip as a tough player to coach and wondered how that fit would work.

Disappointed Butz gave it up. Like him for doubles for sure, but he never seemed to dominate in singles. Good kid and best wishes.

Is the kid from England coming? That would put us at 8 and is a comfortable number for me.

If he doesn't come or impact the lineup, I'd see us as:

Bob
Piro
Flo
Alford
Watson
Federhoffer

I really don't know anything about Proisy or the English kid.

Lot of wasted talent but if Coach keeps making all the right decisons, I think he will have top players lining up to come play for him.

My understanding is Piro must sit out the fall - but able to practice with the team. He will be eligible for the spring. Luke Johnson is the kid from England and suppose to be in Gainesville and eligible for the fall.

The English kid is here, not sure why he's not on the roster. I agree with your line up, except I would put Billy ahead of Watson, and I MIGHT put Piro ahead of Bob. Not sure Proisy or English kid will contribute much this season, but things could change as the season progresses.

Watson just took out Lock from FSU. I like this kid.

The Gators got four commitments today! Blue-chip #11 Elliott Orkin, Blue-chip #22 Maxx Lipman, 5-star #35 Joshua Wardell, and Diedo Hidalgo from Equador (ATP high ranking of 767.

Looks like a great first class for Coach Shelton!
I agree, looks good!!: Orkin and Lipman excellent players .... i search for Diego Hidalgo (Ecu) , reach 16 world Jr ITF, he made various QF `s and SF in futures ATP and a couple of Future doubles titles .... Shelton superb person and coach... good luck for UF

Hidalgo will be joining the team in January. That would make things very interesting.

Thought the Gator lineup in Ft Myers was interesting...

Flo
Bob
Piro
Alford
Billy
Watson
Johnsen

Flo/Alford
Billy/Watson
Bob/Piro
Looks like Coach Shelton mixed it up quite a bit at the bottom of the line up as the weekend progressed. Flo did great at #1 and ended the weekend with the most points. I wonder when the new kid Hidalgo will make an appearance?

Hidalgo isn't on the roster at gator zone. Is he on campus and eligible for the spring?

How would Newman be allowed to play again for UF? My understanding is you can transfer one time to another D1 school or you transfer to a JUCO and then transfer to another D1. That he played for Michigan in the Fall, I would think makes him ineligible to play for UF again.

As far as transferring goes, anything is possible. There is a player that started out at IL, then transferred to Florida State and is now at Iowa. There was another player who transferred from Duke to Wake to FL not that long ago. Neither player had to sit out at all.

I think it has more to do with how you are released and how you appeal to the NCAA.

Really? You thought this out and these were the thoughts that were finalized in your head? Wow.

No one is suggesting he could play this spring. It doesn't matter what school you transfer to a second time, you sit a year. There is no rule that says you can't transfer back to an original school. If these rumors end up true, he'd be out until next spring.

Iowa player sitting out

Former Gator never enrolled at Duke

Yeah imagine that a free thought, did not say anything about this spring. I am talking about in general would he be eligible. Sorry to not be a Gator nut-hugger.

Sooooo...what are you asking? If someone can transfer twice and be eligible? Yes is the answer, if so.

There's a girl that plays volleyball who is on her 4th school and will be eligible. She is sitting out until mid-fall 2013 before starting her 3rd year of eligibility.

Not sure what happened to Piro. He should never get beat that bad.

No Piro today in doubles or singles so maybe it was an injury. Florida would have been better off heading home this morning because while it is early in singles they're not looking too great. Looks like UWub will take 1st sets at 1, 2, and 5 with 6 still going. Maybe the Gators will turn it back around but they might be ready to get back home. Nothing like starting a consolation match at 10pm eastern on the final day.

The Gators may finish very low in the SEC. Could be 9th. That Watson guy is not very good nor is that Diep guy. Piro is a mental headcase Frenchman like Slilam was. Looking forward to pounding these chumps this year.

Our men's team really needed that win at Tennessee. Great job winning the doubles point, and kudos to Johnson for hanging tough. Not an easy position for a freshman. I'm hoping the top of the lineup catches fire soon.
