Deals breaking out everywhere, the draft next month. Who are the winners/losers???

Welker leaving NE is shocking...Harvin and Avril to the 'Hawks is impressive...Bush a Lion rounds out their offense.

Who's going to the Meadowlands???

Welker balked at the 2 for 10 with bonuses up to 16. Amendola signed, pats had no need to up the offer to keep Welker.

All the teams with good young QBs. Or just young Cheap QBs on the rookie deals are overspending a bit on guys right now.

SEA, Indy, MIA. All have what they think is the QB going forward for a couple years on the rookie deal still. not having to pay Russel Wilson over a mill to get production that costs between 12-15 a year gives them room to pay those guys.

Thats the way this league will operate goping forward. just Imagine Now if the Lions had Stafford and Megatron as rookies making less than 5 mill. How much could they sepnd to get dudes? So there is more under the new CBA to hitting a homerun with the draft picks. Stafford and Bradford got more in garunteed money than any rookie will make total over the entire deal.

1. Wow. The Patsies couldn't match 6mil/year for a guaranteed 100+ catch receiver?

I guess they are banking on a younger Amendola coming and doing it for years to come. Might be a genius move or a disastrous one. Or they may plan to unveil a brand new 5 TE set.

2. I really wanted my Bills to keep Levitre but, he cashed in in Tennessee. 8mil/year is way too much for a guard. Cut Fitz nice guy but, we all saw it coming. Another rebuilding year... year 1 of our 14 year rebuild :(

3. lol the Ravens, from first to worst. Time for Joe to earn that contract and carry that team because he's going to have to if they keep losing players at this rate.

4. Harvin went for a lot more than I expected for a guy with no 1000 yard/double digit TD seasons. Then again, he did have Ponder throwing to him...

5. CB market is stacked this year. Someone is going to get Nnamdi on the cheap and he's going to play lights out. All teams should boycott Mevis... I mean Revis.

patsies - meaning belichick - wanted to de-emphasize welker anyway last season and go to more TE focused offense. amendola can give them half of welker's production and the pats will be happy.

what's fun is that welker will have a chance or two to play the pats next season and we may see a few eff you games from him. plus he could be a first down machine for peyton all season. gonna be fun to watch.

just saw this. most receptions in an NFL season. welker has the #2 spot (along with a bunch of other positions in the top 20) behind marvin harrison. he's got a good shot with manning throwing to him.

1. Marvin Harrison (30) 143 2002 IND
2. Wes Welker (28) 123 2009 NWE
Herman Moore (26) 123 1995 DET
4. Calvin Johnson (27) 122 2012 DET
Jerry Rice+ (33) 122 1995 SFO

Falcons upgrade the RB position by grabbing Steven Jackson. Will Gonzalez return for one more try at a ring? This move should help persuade Tony for another shot at The Bowl. Losing Turner, Abraham and Dunta Robinson...Not so much.

13 mill a year for Mike Wallace? Wayyy too much for him. These teams never learn that these FA signings dont work out like they think most of the time.

Will this be a one-day deal so he can retire as a Steeler???

He's getting up there now and is not the type to reinvent himself as a go-to possession receiver rather than the deep burner he used to be.

Jets signing of David Garrard sets up training camp battle for the QB spot with The Buttfumbler but a darkhorse for the spot may wind up being Kevin Kolb in a reunion with new OC Morninwheg(sp? Sorry). If they do sign him, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts...trouble is he won't have any weapons around him. '13 is a bust for my GothamGreenies but a chance to rid us of WrecksRyan and his buffoonery.

Can't make up my mind which ex-Raven has the best chance to win a second consecutive SB ring...Boldin (a steal by SF for a 6R pick) or Reed (Texans FA sign). Steelers win AFC North by default!

Urlacher out! Rejects a one year 2mil not guaranteed ultimatum.

He says there's no hard feelings but, I bet he goes to the pack or something.

Dumbest running back rule. Dumbest rule I've ever heard of. T-Rich isn't as good now. All Day not as good. Gore not as good. All these guys and more are power runners. Does the league want guys like Reggie bush? He sucks. Hey Crosby, your not allowed to use a stick. Hey lebron, you can only use one leg. What a stupid stupid rule. What happens when a guy dives for a first down? That's leading with the crown of your helmet. Also how do you define open field? This rule just makes the refs more prominent instead of less. Dumb rule.

There is a huge lawsuit of former players suing the NFL. This is the owners way of saying you dont want to get hurt then stop using your head.

Why can an RB use his head as a weapon but a defensive guy cannont?

Why can the guy with the ball in his hands stiff arm to face mask with no repurcussions but if a defensive guy does its 5 or 15 yards?

I dont have a problem with the rule. But I also dont care about football that much.

This. I don't blame the owners.

Blame the concussion lawsuit and all the broke players who were too stupid to manage their millions joining in.

Fantasy value of CJ Spiller and Reggie Bush just went way up.

Seeing as you have probably never played RB I can't value that opinion to much. Rbs are taught to keep everything low, pads low, helmet low. Helmet is used for protection. These guys will get lit up if they can't protect themselves with the helmet. Also with guys like muscle hamster and mjd, they're short, all they can do is use their helmets.

We disagree on other things but totally agree here. This rule makes it almost impossible to even depend on the running game.

3rd and 2 late in the game and you hand it to Peterson, he has to lower his head to move the chains and seal the victory. Instead of a 1st down its a 15 yd penalty against Peterson? CHanges the game completely.

OK so a 5'9"230lb can lead with his helmet and use it as a weapon, but a 6'2"185lb DB cant when he is tackling.

If the D cant use the helment and grab the mask the offense should not be able to either.

An RB should have to run head first into poeple. In Highschool when I played DE they taught out running back to blast with the shoulder. Its easier to keep balance that way and if you hit with the indide shoulder you are already set up to break it off outside after going though the hole.

As far as the draft goes, there aint no super exiting players in my mind. The Chiefs pick they worst year in a while to have #1 pick.

They probably just play it safe and take joeckel which is probably what they need anyway.

Here's a sign of how bad '13 may turn out for the Ravens...defending SB champs usually host the Opening Night game; not so this September! Due to a "scheduling conflict" with the Orioles, the Ravens will travel to Denver for the opener. As Rodney Dangerfield said, "No respect!"

Somebopdy from the NFL or Ravens apprently asked the O's about making that game a day game. The O's said there were coming off a road trip and couldnt make it happen. Also there was talk of some negotiations by the O's saying they were giving up 5 millions dollars if they moved it to a day game. The NFL wasnt willing to make upo that difference.

hats all hearsay but I think Angelos would pull somehting like this no doubt.

I'm just glad the O's didnt buckle and force the NFL to do something it hardly ever has to do. Not get its way.

I also hope the ravenns plane crashes in the rocky mountians so I dont have to see all the stupid festivus maximus and ravengers shirts all the time.

I dont really wish that, but I hate those shirts.

Are the ravens the least exciting/respected team coming off a Super Bowl win into the next season ever? First with their opening game. Flacco who, lets be real here, is not a great qb. They wasted all their money on him and couldn't resign key character players like reed and boldin. They lost their leader in ray. Will this team even get 6 wins this year?

P.S volley girl, nice to see we can agree on something.

Off topic but, can we just turn the SEC "schools" (minus Vandy) into a AAA league for the NFL?

It was more of a shot at the academic standards of the SEC.

In other news, Mevis 5 years/96 mil 0 guaranteed. This is essentially a 1 year/16mil contract fully guaranteed and next year when he shows he's still the same player he's going to demand a new contract with a boatload guaranteed. Good luck Bucs you're going to need it.

I have a feeling the first QB off the board is going to the Jests at either 9 or 13.

Good God, no! This is a very weak year for QBs and the Jets need a lot more help in other areas...O-line, WR, TE, OLB passrusher, safeties, RB. Let Sanchez battle Garrard for the starting spot in the new West Coast offense designed by Morninwheg. If we suck, which is likely, we fire Ryan after the season and bring in a coach that can then pick the right QB for his system.

Of course the only two position you didnt list as a weakness is what they drafted.

They got good players but could have probably traded down got some 2d and third rounders to boot and really stock up on young talent

Wow EJ did not see that coming.

We easily could have gotten him in round 2. Last time the Bills reached for a QB we ended up with JP Lossman, lets hope this turns out differently.

Can't express how unimpressed I am with new GM Idiot for NYJ!

Apparently, he thoroughly read the Tannenbaum Guide To Success, left over by his predescessor. Key tenets:

1. Cave in to every request made by Rots Ryan. He loves defensive toys so, when you have two 1st rounders, make sure both play "D".

2. Ignore glaring holes in your roster, especially at skills positions. Make sure you muddy up competition at a key position manned by an overpriced veteran by bringing in a rookie who will have no weapons to throw to or hand off to.

3. Miss key players by a pick (Austin goes eighth) or a few (Ertz goes 35th) by being out of contact with other GMs for possible trade-ups.

The Jets are grounded for '13. Maybe we get way up in the draft for '14. Thanks for being a bonehead!

Yeah our pick wasn't too good, we could have gotten him later on. Sadly, our GM and front office suck, we had two first round picks and we trade our higher pick? Horrible.

We only had 1 first rounder we traded that to move back to 16 and pick up another second rounder, which in my opinion was probably a good move. There was no value at 8 this year. I bet they could've traded back again and picked up another 2nd rounder and still gotten EJ. There was a lot of value at the back of the first and second rounds this year I think.

But, if EJ was their guy then he's their guy and I can't knockem for that. If he turns out to be a stud then all is forgiven.

I know this is late, but the helmet rule only goes for runs outside of the tackle/in the open field. Perfect example of how fans read a headline and think they know it all.

Agreed. So many rules favor the offense these days its crazy. One rule is passed that favors the defense and theres an uproar.

Very happy for what the Raiders did and are doing in this year's draft. It really is a new era in Oakland Raider football.

Raiders have had a good draft for once. McKenzie seems to know what he's doing. Meanwhile teams like the Jets and Bills taking the mantle w/ dumb picks.

Yea, Adrian Peterson and other RBs never run outside do they? I guess every former RB, where everyone I heard comment on this new rule was against it, also reacted by only reading a headline. They surely don't know anything about running with the ball.

I agree that the league has handcuffed the defenses with pathetic rule changes but this new rule is ridiculous. I wish the NFL would penalize the QB for putting these WRs in position to get knocked out rather than penalize the defensive player for doing his job and trying to knock the ball loose on a reception. If the hits clean, it shouldn't matter if the WR or TE is ready to be hit or not, its the QBs fault for laying him out to dry.

I went to FSU and I feel sorry for the Bills. EJ will not run much (he gets hurt too easily) and he can't read a defense very well towards the middle of the field.

IMO, it was a great draft for FSU..maybe the most of any team taken with 11 guys. But EJ should not have gone in the first round.

Anyway, for all the people who said FSU was overrated, I guess the NFL disagreed.

In other news, I think the Dolphins may have a top 3 front 7 in the NFL now, if not the best. It is very similar to SF's.

I feel like that front 7 could win the AFC East. They were 2nd last year.

^^^5 Noles in the first 42 is huge but the biggest steal is the #42, Menelik Watson going to the Raiders, courtesy of the Dolphin move up to pick Jordan.

Watson is a beast with plenty of room to grow...6'7"/320 with just a year of football experience. So much upside!

I'm sure they were trying to trade down becuase evryone was trying to trade down. So they just bit the bullett and drafted manuel.

New Coach neds his new QB to run his system i guess.

You have manuel under the tuteledge of Kolb and Tavaris how can he fail.

Yeah I am going to miss that guy on our OL. But the Dolphins did the right thing. They made their front 7 most likely unstoppable, and that is the blueprint to beating the Pats.

Often the best "D" is a good "O" that keeps the ball out of Brady's hands. Who's gonna do that for the Fins? Tannehill and Lamar Miller don't really fill that bill. Adding Mike Wallace could move the ball but a vertical passing game doesn't chew clock.

The current Fins will compete in the AFC East by default. My Jets are also toothless on the "O" side and the Bills are still "what we thought they were", just a bit better if their picks pan out.

Miami '13...a WC team at best, probably 4-2 in the division and 9-7/10-6 overall.

I disagree for a few reasons. First off, the Fins have improved their offense by a fair amount this year. Major upgrades at TE via draft (Sims will be a beast) and Free Agency. We retain Hartline and now can put him in the Jordy Nelson spot while Wallace basically demands double teams the whole game.

I am not sure how Tannehill "doesn't fit the bill" or Lamar Miller. They are both very good players with large room for growth. I guess what I am saying is that I trust Philbin's assessment of our talent. I also think Tannehill is going to be an excellent QB in the NFL. He can already fit the ball into some really small windows that I didn't expect to see in his first season.

Also, I am not sure you follow the fins, because Philbin runs a modified west coast offense that does indeed chew clock. The secret to it is having a guy who stretches the field to open up all those underneath routes. You have to have a guy like Wallace. It was Jennings in Green Bay, and look what happened to them when he was out.

Or course injuries could happen and this all falls apart. But I am not sure Brady will survive 2 games against this dolphins pass rush. He is going to get hit a lot.
