Radwanska's in the contention for the title, she always quietly makes her way through the draw beating people she should. But she can't raise her level sufficiently to overcome the heavyweight types Serena, Aza, Li, Maria and Kvitova.

Aga lost 1st round in Rome and Madrid, and pulled out of Brussels with a shoulder injury. Add to the fact clay is her worst surface I'd consider a QF very successful, as imo she not in contention this year.

Though an early exit would give her more recovery for Wimbledon where she has a ton of points to defend.

LOL ... that was a funny thing: I used that ava as a protest, and then I kinda got used to it :D

speaking of getting used to things ..... do you remember the pink clay from last year?
I wonder if they'll try it on again this year?

That shrieking photo made me laugh every time I saw it.

Soooo I remember seeing the pic of the pink clay, but I was too busy to read about. Then never saw a match played on it. What was the deal?

Robson's draw is good for her - I think she can beat anyone in her eighth of the draw. That's what makes following Robson exciting, that she can beat anyone (except top 3) on her day.

Like the look of Vika's draw too, I think she'll do well.

Serena is on a mission this year.

No mercy in the early rounds....no mercy at all for that matter

I don't think she is in contention for the title at all. If her shoulder holds up, she "may" make it out of her quarter into the SF where Serena will thrash her.

I'd like to see LiNa get to the finals.

I would too but I don't think she will this year. She has not done well in clay season so far and she has a tough first match against Medina Garrigues. If she makes it past Medina Garrigues, she has other candidates that may be tricky for her unless she can find some form quickly--i.e. Shvedova, Kanepi, Kirilenko and then ultimately she will probably have to face Azarenka whom I don't think she will beat this year. I think we will probably see an Azarenka/Sharapova SF.
Even if Li Na finds some form she would have to beat potentially Azarenka, Sharapova and Serena to win the title. Don't think that is happening. Talk about a tough draw!

Serena doesn't have to worry about the Olympics this year, so I imagine her first round was a statement match.

Who doesn't believe Serena will win the title this year? You would have to be living under a rock to think otherwise. Sure she can be upset early as she has been in the past, but she just seems to have a certain resolve this year about winning this tournament. I would not bet against her.

Yes she humiliated her 2 closes rival in the last 2 tournaments, and could see it happening again here.

. . .

It is still Piotr Wozniacki, who is the coach of Caroline when she faces Briton Laura Robson in the first round of the French Open, which begins Sunday''[/I]

yes, i welcome this as good news .... except, why would they change coaches in this, the worst possible way? ..... after the FIRST ROUND of a grand slam?!?!?! ... how stupid is that? this kind of a change s/b made gradually with A LOT of time BEFORE the next slam ... this is a suspiciously bad way of changing!

Pink clay is horrendous...like the audence mass barfed bubble gum on the court.

I think we will probably see an Azarenka/Sharapova SF.

I really hope that happens. If so, I want Azarenka to wipe Sharapova's disrespect for her off of Maria's face (partially over charges of Azarenka "copying" Sharapova's noises).

Nope, I am rooting for Sharapova if that one comes to fruition.

This is definitely a WTA match. What is that, like 7 straight breaks of serve.

I believe that's 9 now with a 10th on the way. Can they do it for an entire set?

EDIT: I've just heard JMac say it's 8 out of 10 games. Still terrible.

Seriously for a moment in that last game you could see on Venus's face that she just realized she doesn't have it anymore.

Venus is making me depressed, I feel like crying, literally.

Its all flashes and glimpses now from her, such a shame. The fight is still there however her serve looks like Aga circa 2007 and her groundies are as consistent at Kvitova's.

Prime Venus would have wrapped this up by now. Venus's serve and movement have declined so much it's unreal. She's practically limping between points.

There's been some good tennis in this match, but the break situation is pretty insane. I know it's women's tennis and serve isn't as big of a deal, but still.

Yeah, whatever happened to Venus. She just sort of slowly faded away. It's hard to remember what she was like when she was No. 1, or at least consistent Top 5, and winning 7 Slams and a factor in lots of others, and a real presence on tour.
