I had a pair of those... OMG, the blisters I would get after a match with those on my feet! Later, I just wore them mostly after matches and around school.

Haillet was a top French player on tour - adidas had the Haillet tennis racquet which was renamed the Nastase Competition in the mid 70s as well.

After he retired they signed Smith and later re-branded the shoes as well.

I'm thinking that there might be some old farts on this forum.

Those in the pics are type 2's.

The original was a firmer leather, unpadded tongue and ankle, and the stitching only went around the front half of the sole.

I see rec players still wearing these and they are the classic tennis shoe.

Haillet was of course the original, but they became Stan Smiths after his Wimbledon win I believe. Many players wore these in the early 70's, including a certain young Swede.

Did she get TE?

(I was not jealous, just sorry.)

She did not. My first case came a few years later after reading Pancho Segura's book, which caused me to try to learn a sidespin forehand. I hit it with a straight elbow. Worked pretty well, but the elbow said "no". Don't recall which racket I was using at the time.
