hard time weaving crosses

When weaving crosses, sometimes the string is too slippery for me to weave with just 2 fingers. Instead I have to use a much slower method and it has made my string jobs very slow. When I string with something like wilson synthetic, it was fine and I could weave with 2 fingers but when I string with poly or some different luxilon strings it was too slippery. Is there anything I can do? It usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour to string because of this.

Sometimes I HAVE to wash my hands before stringing, otherwise the string slips through my fingers enough to the point that I lose my handle on it.

I'm a gamer (yes I play Xbox) and I have this stuff called Gamer Grip stops sweat in the hands it works really well for gaming, and it actually works really well for stringing too!

Do a couple and your fingers adjust.
That said, I'm not sure I'd want to do say 5 straight poly's.

Is it that the string is slippery or the string is much stiffer? Polys are harder to weave because they are stiff.

It also really depends on the racquet and string pattern, if you have a Babolat Pure drive, it's not difficult at all, but if you have a very closed, say, prestige at 18x20, it can be very taxing on you.

I found that if you put one hand under and one hand over the racket and use the top hand to push down and the bottom to push up it is a easier to weave crosses

When starting each cross the most important thing is to pull enough string before starting to weave. Common novice mistake.

You guys crack me up. You want easy to weave? Use a pony bead and instead of putting the string on the bead but a loop of string. Weave the loop of string and put the tennis string in the loop and pull it through.

I think there was only one person really complaining about weaving.

lol yea.

its just practice. i did 8 blade 98 all 16g poly 3 per hour

Thats pretty impressive.

I will tend to turn on MLBTV, get a cuppa, make appointments to get my wisdom teeth pulled, anything for a diversion.

I think the bead method, while ok, just prevents one from to learning to weave faster.

Same with Any of the "crutches".

Practice alone makes it easier and the work arounds/tools don't help in that regard.

Agreed. Only thing that will help is lots of practice and stringing lots of racquets., as with anything. Unless you are a basket weaver or something..:)

How many rackets does it take?

I am guessing I am between 30-50 rackets at this point. UGH with monogutzx or a poly it is just impossible. You cant seem to even grip it with out it slipping through the fingers.

If you have any tips that would be great. Its probably a useless question because those who can actually answer it have long forgotten the answer :)

OK OK

THe problem is the tips of the poly tend to be a little slippery, I've never had an issue with it, but I guess some have.

So..
1) get some rough Sand paper, and scuff the tips of the poly, that way, perhaps it will take off some of the polish and give it a rougher feel for a better grip.

2) set your tensioner very high, say 65 lbs. now clamp a portion and set the tip into the tensioner and tension. There should be enough force that it will create some type of texture perhaps. I don't know for sure, I can try it.

3) pay someone else to do it.

Even if you've been stringing for year you can still understand the problem. As the string bed gets stiffer it gets harder and harder to weave the crosses through the mains. When you get down to the last few strings every notices this and has problems weaving crosses. What I tend to do is use a little longer tip of string when I weave and just flip it through a couple of mains then pull a little more through and repeat until I get across or I just use a needle and thread method.

As far as the bead method slowing down the learning curve it all depends on what you trying to learn. When I weave crosses I use a pushing method but with the bead method it is more of a pulling method. So you will not learn how to push by using the bead method and pulling. But if you don't mind pulling your strings through it teaches you the mechanics.

Most people have more of a problem with poly that they do with softer strings. The softer the string or the better grip you have on the string makes it easier. The bead method just you a much better grip on the string and it your pulling a soft playable piece of twine though the mains it is going to be easier than pulling poly.

But hey if you want to learn without the bead just keep trying. Problem is if you just string one racket every few weeks you going to spend you life just trying.

If you want to practice ,get an old racquet and a really cheap reel of string, and then use that for practice. You can find some really cheap poly out there.

for me it took a lot. i would estimate at about 1500 or so. i can do 16g all poly in 15min if i want now
