    era of a stick?

Hey all, I have a student that plays a Wilson Hyper Hammer 5.0 110 that I cant restring for fear it will break. He has word through the top of the hoop at 11:00 on either side. So, I was going to try and find him a used one, but everything I find is a 5.3. So, I'm hoping those in the...

Help me identify this old racquet

Awesome serving stick! Sweet spot is smaller than a tennisball diameter, but hit it and it is an great feeling. Beating my students with one... priceless!

    Unobtainium?

Perhaps I'm not searching the correct way, but since it doesn't seem to still be made, does anyone here have a coil of the original style Technifiber mutli-filiment string they would part with? I want to try a coil in an 80s PK Boron Pro and see if I can find that old feeling. Please email...

    Matchmate graphite racquet???

I just remembered we demo'd some white standard length cermamics from MM. I don't know if they were ever into regular production, but I remember that my second season with the team in 87.

What racquet do you hate to love?

PK Micro Mid Pro... I hate/love the sound it makes, but man I love the spin it creates and the fact I can put my deuce court serves out into the next court or the fence! (Insert evil grin here)

    Dwindling stash

The high school season ended. My 1st year players with these old sticks did pretty well. #1 doubles went several rounds in the tournament. My #1 singles didn't win his 1st round and was kicked into a consolation bracket and won that part of the tournament. Other coaches asked me about the...

What value would you place on this limited edition JK Autograph

There is one of these in my buddy's pro shop in his club. He got his because he has been exclusively a Wilson dealer since the club opened in the 80s... It's beautiful, but it needs to be hit!

Serious downsizing might mean no more collecting...

Scottie, eh? We have had 3 prior scotties in our world and currently have 1 with our black lab... speedy recovery to your little girl!

Serious downsizing might mean no more collecting...

Rich, just some more encouragement to work with local kids... yesterday I witnessed my old bubblebee, mitt and an old price all win their high school matches! It brought me great joy.

    I broke a string...

I found a very light 18 gauge poly string in my stash today... I'm labeling it for the micro for if I ever have to restring again. But, this badminton string worked well yesterday in my brief hitting.

    I broke a string...

Then Yonex string is actually a badminton string... I took it with me to our match today to warm up a player and the coach from the other team just had to give it once over... twice!

    I broke a string...

I'm using Yonex ATG 850 Pro this time... we'll see if the thicker gauge equals hitting with a pizza board.

    I broke a string...

"So what?", you say???? Well, it was in my PK Micro Mid strung at a whopping 26lbs... that's what! I think in my history of these sticks, this is my first breakage below 32lbs. What sucks more than standing there restringing it today, is that I have no more 19g string. So, I'm stringing...

Serious downsizing might mean no more collecting...

Rick, perhaps you could do what I did... the usable part of my collection is now being used by many of my HS players that can't afford new stuff. Most of them got a racquet for $25 and that inclueded new strings. I get to see them being used and know that the students appreciate not having to...

Old-school feel, weight and stability with good maneuverability and modern spin

Try putting a low tension poly set in your favorite classic and see if that gives the spin increase you are looking for.

    Poly in an old stick...

I just restrung both my Pro Borons, one in synthetic at 55lbs and one with poly at 48lbs and took them both out for a hit. I never, ever thought I would say this, but I like a full bed of poly at this low tension in a flat beam stick!!! It is awesome! I tried it once before at 55lbs and...

What's a good classic racquet to use in high school?

So, my top HS players that have switched from modern sticks and improved are all silly old farts?

What's a good classic racquet to use in high school?

What is your swing speed/style? If it is long and aggressive, try the PK Black Ace 90. I have my HS #1 playing one now instead of his Kfactor. His serve has more pop, his volleys are better and his strokes are no longer flying like they used to. I have him using Big Hitter Silver at 48lbs.

    modern racquet manufacturers are clueless.

When my form goes off, out comes my t2000! With a sweet spot slight smaller than the ball, you have to get it right. Then my 80s PKs are fantastic...

gonna play with old racquets for a while

Until our sponsorship from Match Mate, I used the Copper Ace my first year of collegiate tennis. I was an SV style player. After the chronic MM breakage issues we had, I went back to PK's, but the Pro Boron... The CA is a bit more forgiving and easy to swing. If you have longer strokes, it...

    Dwindling stash

Thank you for the offer, but I don't know yet if I'll have any takers. I only have 2 'tennis players' on campus right now. My team of twelve will have 10 newbies if I field a full squad... could be an interesting season! I can usually teach them to serve and get to net for double...
