MSV Focus Hex Soft and Focus Hex Ultra?

Have been using MSV Focus Hex Ultra for a while now and loving it. Long lasting, excellent tension maintenance, very direct connected feel, superb control. Compared to regular Focus Hex, it feels a bit more lively, control is definitely on par though. Very linear and predictable power output. I...

    Kirschbaum Max Power Alternative?

Used a full bed of Kirschbaum Max Power 1.30 a few years ago and experienced the same issue. Tons of control, but really low powered. I kept Max Power as a cross and put MSV Focus Hex Ultra 1.30 in the mains. Did the job for me. Still excellent control, yet a bit more free power. Like Max Power...

    Brian's racquet / string experiments!

How did you like it? Tried the same combo a while ago. Great control and tension maintenance.

Also, bring back the 2014 PCG 100 Longbody. Better weight distribution and a more manageable swingweight than the current Phantom 100 Longbody.

Why aren't extended rackets more common or popular?

Posted this in a different thread a while ago, but I think it still fits: The static weight of almost all current extended length racquets is simply too high. Most people don't realize how big of an impact the longer length has on the overall playability of a racquet. I think racquet...

    Introducing Grapplesnake USA!!!

New M8 string sounds super interesting! Excited to try it out. Currently using your fellow German strings MSV Focus Hex Ultra and Tourna Big Hitter Silver 7 Tour, both at 1.30 mm. Should be an interesting comparison. Have you hit with any of these? M8 in the Blade V8 looks so cool btw. Great...

Looking to minimise the muted feel of my Yonex’s!

I was on a similar quest recently. Play tested a bunch of strings and ended up liking MSV Focus Hex Ultra and Tourna Big Hitter Silver 7 Tour the most. Both feel crisp and give a very direct feedback. Focus Hex Ultra grabs the ball particularly well throughout the whole lifespan of a string job...

Tourna silver 7 tour in pure aero?

That’s exactly why I went up to 1.30. Allowed me to play more consistently against heavier hitting guys. Way better control. And has a plow-through sort of power to it, rather than the trampoline-like power thinner gauges tend to produce.

Tourna silver 7 tour in pure aero?

Tried Tourna Silver 7 Tour 16g in my open pattern 100 square inch racquet and loved it. Excellent crontrol, very predictable response, above average spin, great tension maintenance. Really allows you hit hard and still know where the ball is going. Only drawback is that it tends to randomly...

    extended-length rackets

The static weight of almost all current extended length racquets is simply too high. Most people don't realize how big of an impact the longer length has on the overall playability of a racquet. I think racquet manufactures should offer more extended versions of their so called "lighter"...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Very true! (That said, I am very happy with the suggestions made in this thread by fellow TT enthusiasts. They have lead me in the right direction.)

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Lynx Tour does look interesting as well. Seems to have the properties I am looking for. Ha, (too) many good strings to try!

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

MSV Focus Hex Ultra has a slight edge over Silver 7 Tour in terms of spin. The edges feel more pronounced, and my hitting partners confirmed that it produced a heavy spinny ball. Hit some nasty topspin groundies and high bouncing kick serves.

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

As for a comparison to Tourna Silver 7 Tour, both strings share a lot of common traits. Both are excellent control strings. The feel is slightly different though. Silver Tour feels metallic, with a very direct und clean feedback. Focus Hex Ultra has a more rubbery and dampened feel. Between the...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Also, I've played 6 hours with a full bed of MSV Focus-Hex Ultra 16/1,30mm at 51lbs/23kg. Similar experience here. Above average control and predictability. The string really gives you the confidence the ball will land in the court no matter what. So far, no notable tension drop after the...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Continued my play test, this time using a hybrid set-up of Kirschbaum Max Power 16/1,30mm in the crosses and Tourna Silver 7 Tour 16/1,30 mm in the mains, both at 51lbs/23kg. So compared to my go-to string set-up I've been using throughout the last years, it's a stiffer und thicker string in...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Played 4 more hours with Tourna Silver 7 Tour, so 12 hours in total so far. This is usually the time I cut strings out, if they hadn't snapped before. They have yet so show any signs of significant notching, which is quite unusual. Tension maintenance and playability are still way above average...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Played 8 hours with a full bed of Tourna Silver 7 Tour. My set-up was gauge 16/1,30mm, strung at 49 lbs/22kg in my open pattern Völkl Super G 8 (300 gramm, leaded up). Usually I use Kirschbaum Max Power 16/1,30mm in the crosses and MSV Focus Hex 16L/1,23mm in the mains, both at 55lbs/25kg. I...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Maybe I should clarify again what I am looking for. It is the sensation of ball bite or ball grab that I’m primarily interested in. I used a full bed of shaped poly for many years, and I find it hard to replicate this sensation in a hybrid with a smoother cross string. There are moments where I...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Good point. Lead increases stability and power, but of course makes it more challenging to swing the racquet and thus to produce spin. My current racquet, the Völkl Super G 8 (300), has a low swing weight in stock form. I added moderate amounts of lead at the 6/9 and 12 o’clock position to fix...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve asked my stringer to string Tourna Silver 7 Tour a bit lower than my usual go-to set-up Focus Hex/Max Power, to compensate for the stiffer main string. First I was thinking of keeping the same tension, for a better apple-to-apple comparison. However, as I am...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

I tried Kirschbaum Pro Line a few years ago and really liked it. Excellent round poly with good playability that lasts long. I feel in general Kirschbaum produces quality strings that hold tension well. Particularly true for Max Power of course. Thanks for bringing up Focus Hex Ultra. Maybe I...

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Ordered a set of 7 Tour Silver, racquet is at my stringer. Excited to see how it plays! Will report back. Open to further suggestions if anyone wants to share their experiences. Thanks again to everyone for your ideas!

Always wanted to try Ultra Cable just for fun. I guess in terms of tension maintenance Tier One Firewire is the better deal.

Low-powered shaped poly with good tension maintenance

Interesting to see that the strings suggested so far are mostly those I had been considering. Black Code 4S, Tour Bite, Confidential, Black Night. Tourna 7 Tour Silver wasn’t on my list though. Excited to give it a try.
