    Question Kramer Autograph Wood

Joe's right... And he usually is... :) Due to nearly everyone using it or the Dunlop Maxply when we were swinging wood racquets (uphill... both ways... in a snowstorm...), Flea bay has them used for about $10. Regarding dating the one you have, if the crown has 3 points, it's likely ca...

Question about Wilson Ultra 2 Largehead

Ok, tapered, but... When you said tapered, I thought you were talking more along the lines of the "dual tapered beam" of the Prostaff 4.5 (early widebody - came out shortly after the Profile - "from the side" wide in the middle, narrower at the top/bottom of the head) and/or the Head Genesis...

Who in here is crazy about the woods?

Yamaha had a couple that were just beautiful - I think Yuth had 'em. I'm a wood racquet fanatic - Maxply McEnroe was a nice piece of workmanship, and I've got stuff all the way back to about ca. 1900 - workmanship that went into these frames was something... :)

    What Was the Reason?

ease of manufacture... That'd be my guess... one piece of graphite braided tubing, bent into racket shape. In the case of the newer models, the tubing needs to be fused. Harder manufacturing process...

Question about Wilson Ultra 2 Largehead

unless... The earliest of early ultra largeheads (first ones had the moniker "Galaxy") were narrow-beam. I believe the Ultra II were the same - narrow beam. Only when they went to FPK, ceramic, etc. did they have any taper to them. So... it depends...

does anyone here remember "Blue Star Nylon" tennis strings????

I think the one I was thinking of was Gutex... had a multi-filament "wanting real hard to be black gut" texture... good stuff (at least in comparison with Blue Star [appropriately abbreviated BS... ;-) ), which lost tension after about 2 weeks...).

does anyone here remember "Blue Star Nylon" tennis strings????

it's still in at least one of my Kramer auto's on the wall... String I can't remember was black and supposedly had graphite it it - switched from blue star to it before eventually going hybrid... any ideas out there on the black stuff?

Anyone on here from the 60's or 70's????

That, and Tretorn balls... Presureless... things felt like a baseball. Later... Dunlop had presureless balls we played with in Europe on the dirt - boxes of 4 (made so much more sense than 3-ball cans...). Guar-on-tee the reason they weren't released stateside was the 3-ball can market...

Do all the old timers on here use the giant OS rackets now????

Most of the guys I play with (ranked juniors and college players "back in the day") are all playing with 90 or 95's. I'm currently playing with a 106, but will probably "go smaller" when I wear the current sticks out (which is taking awhile... old guys know how to throw rackets without 'em...

Need help identifying wooden racquet, tension range, etc

I wouldn't pull it tighter than 60. Most rackets in that era recommended 55... Johnny Mac switched from that general range (52-60) down to the mid-30's - Lendl was the first "top 10" guy to string that low. Endgame recommendation: 55 will give you a "realistic" feel for the era.

    Head Genesis 660

I used one for awhile - switched to it from the Wilson PS 4.5 wide beam. I couldn't keep a low volley in the court with the Wilson (although I *loved* how it vaporized high volleys). A little less umph than the Wilson, but very forgiving. They came out with a Trysys 720 that was the next...
