    Alcaraz new haircut

Alcaraz is sporting a new cut at the Hopman Cup. Looks good.

    Nice Racquet Stand

This may be the most humorous post I've ever seen on TW. I mean, if you have a small stringing service, maybe. But just to be "organized?" I donated more than 50 racquets to my local junior tennis league when I moved to FL about 3 years ago, and only moved about 12-15 racquets. I'm back...

Thin Replacement Grips For Bevel Feel (prince resithin vs syntec team etc)

Tourna makes a 1.5mm version of the Pro Thin grip, called the Pro Tour. I dont think TW sells it, but TEx does. Both of those Tourna grips are good choices. (The other Tourna grips are not as good.) As a long-time Skin Feel user, I didn’t like the new Bab Syntec Team Feel (white) grip at...

    shorten racket handle

Good ideas above, but instead of shortening your racquets, just get some junior length frames. Don’t worry that you’ll look like an idiot; I suspect that secret is already out. If you must shorten your frames, make sure to cut at least 3 inches off. If you decide that’s too much, you can...

    Pallet changes can destroy hairpins?

Not sure exactly what you’re asking, but if it’s whether handle pallets can get adversely affected by continually removing and re-stapling butt caps the answer is yes. At least the Head TK82 and TK82S pallets can. It’s not a big deal though, since it takes a lot of changes, and you can always...

US Open monotonous automated line call voice

It's probably just me, but that automated line call voice is like finger nails on the blackboard. Why can't they use a random mix of 10 calls or so, instead of the same recording every time. Same pitch, same volume, same tone, same intensity, same everything. Time after time after time after...

    Azarenka stopped shrieking?

I've never been able to watch Azarenka due to her shrieking. A lot of players grunt or make noise, but the only one that really bothered me was Azarenka. I think it was the pitch. But watching her at RG I noticed that she's not doing that any more. Just the normal "grunt" now. Totally...

    Racket Bare Pallet Thickness Measurement

That's interesting info, and thanks for doing that. Another piece of info that would be useful is the width of each bevel, although it may be that the dimensions you provide (including the "circumference") are enough to calculate the other dimensions and angles. I'm pretty sure that if I had...

Let’s talk overgrip strategy for hot and humid climates

I just survived my first summer in FL and was shocked at how much the humidity affected me. Wrist bands didn’t help - my palms sweat too much. Tourna is soaked in 20-30 min. I ended up using Dunlop U Sweat and changing racquets every 30-45 min. It gets as wet as Tourna, but plays better when...

What a great thread. Thanks to Moon Shot for starting it, and thanks to Dakota60 for reviving it.

Leather Grip vs Thin Synthetic (ResiThin/Featherthin/Pro Thin/etc.). Which absorbs shock better?

My experience is that the thin synthetics do not absorb more shock/vibration than leather, or at least compared to 1.5mm leather. But they do make the grip feel smaller. IMO the Tourna Pro Thin is the best at that, and if you use a softer overgrip, like Supergap, it’s a decent feel...

What to expect from joining a club?

Depending on where you live, there may be good “public” options, or there may not be. And that may be true for 12 months of the year, or for only 6. The main reason to join a club is to avoid having to play tennis with people who think $325/yr is too much to spend. :) But if you’re focused...

Head Speed MP (360+ & Older Gens) Official Thread

After playing with speeds for the past 4 generations, I recently switched back to my 22mm beam models, particularly the Graphene XT, but also messing around with an old Touch. I just like the old 22mm beam feel. I did change my 16x16 frames to 16x19 though. And added some weight to make them...

    Pallets and Grip Size

Interesting question, but I'm not sure why it would be limited to frames that use pallets. Isn't the more general question "do frames account for their 'stock' grip thickness when calculating grip size?" Using your examples, is the naked/ungripped handle size of a TFight that's sold with a...

    HEAD Graphene 360 Speed MP

The Graphene 360 and 360+ are substantially the same. The difference in strings and tension are more significant than the differences in the frames. Racquet manufacturers change something in each racquet line every year or two as a way to sell racquets, and occasionally the change is...

Lead Tape - What is the minimum weight for you to feel a difference?

I understand your question to be how much weight do you need to add to feel a difference in the way the racquet plays. And while I convince myself that I can feel a difference in the way a racquet swings in my living room after adding 4g to the hoop, that does not translate to any noticeable...

    HEAD Graphene 360 Speed MP

I don't know what I can say without sounding snarky and disrespectful, and I don't want to be that guy. But seriously, no one has long, powerful strokes at the beginner level. And people with experience don't ask questions like "what's better, 2 knots or 4?" So I applaud your enthusiasm, and...

    HEAD Graphene 360 Speed MP

With all due respect, if this is your first racquet you should probably try to recreate the string & tension of the racquet you tried (which caused you to become convinced that the Speed mp is the racquet for you). If that information is not available, probably go with a lower-cost poly or...

So let me get this right: NO racquets have the rectangular head handle shape anymore?

Actually, there is at least one current racquet with the traditional handle shape, but it will not do you any good. I was in the shop a few weeks ago holding the various Extreme models, and the PWR model has the traditional handle shape. Of course the person working in the show had no clue, so...

Yonex Dry Grap Overgrip - New

After moving to Florida this year I've been burning through the dry overgrip. The V-Dry, Dry-Grap, and U-Sweat are all very similar (at least in black - the other colors aren't the same) and any of them works better than other options (like Tourna) for me. The Dry-Grap is too expensive though...

How perspective can change whether a ball looks in or out.

With all due respect, if you can't tell whether a ball at rest three inches behind the baseline is in or out if you're standing at the back fence on that end of the court, then I'm thinking that your line-calling skills need some work. Better to let your partner do that heavy lifting.

Yonex Dry Grap Overgrip - New

Yep, it's a bit thick, but in 95-degree, 95% humidity weather that's a plus. Feels like Dunlop U-Sweat, but a little thicker. At $7 for a 3-pack, it's also pricey. Overall though, it's a good option for super humid weather. Wish it came in 30 packs.

    Help: Babolat Skin Feel alternative(s)

I feel your pain. I got the last 10 or so that were in stock at my local PGA Tour Superstore in May, and it looks like they may still have them online. But the “replacement” for Skin Feel is not the same. Nothing else that i’ve found is. Good luck.

Does your tennis bag brand match your racquet brand?

Also Solinco bag. They're great bags.

I still see people using hideous grips.

Quot Yep, in the early 1970s we used white GauzeTex. It was a bit rough, but it let you hold the racquet more securely. And we thought we were cool, since only the hardcores were using any overgrip. I had a teammate that wrapped so many layers that his grips were basically round, and...

    Buttcap for TK82?

"The new Graphene 360+ Prestige now come with TK82S pallets." Interesting to know. I assume you can still swap TK82S and TK82 pallets on any relevant Head racquet? Being able to switch grip shape and size is why I switched from Wilson to Head some years ago.

    Buttcap for TK82?

Evidently the TK219 and TK219S designations are European, so it probably makes no sense for me to guess because I’m not familiar with whatever difference there is between them. BUT, I know that the standard Head buttcaps sold in the US by TW, among others, work with both TK82 and TK82S...
