COME ON!!!!! -- does it bother you?

"Come on" doesn't bother me too much. I might roll my eyes but that's about it. Last summer when I was playing the guy on the neighboring court was yelling "Vamos" even though I'm 99% sure he wasn't of Latino descent. That was annoying.

    Gamesmanship V.S. Sportmanship

Interesting thread. I think Eric's examples are pretty extreme, but gamesmanship does go on. I disagree with lots of these tactics, but it's worth discussing how to deal with it. We see it at the highest levels of tennis (questioning line calls, taking extra time between points...

anyone used the new(er) Dunlop Maxply Mcenroe ?

I have one of those. It's not my regular racket (usually use Dunlop HM200) but liked the design and price so gave it a try. It's lighter than what I'm used to so ground strokes felt odd for me at first. Thought it was very good for serve - especially getting good spin - and excellent for...

    Racquet you wish you bought?

I agree on the old Rossignols. Also, I always wanted to buy the Yamaha Secrets when they came out in the late 80s/early 90s (if I recall correctly).

Any American Football Fans Here ?

Da Bears! Bears fan here, although living in North Carolina they always show the Panthers so I support them to a lesser extent. I remember the line about Ditka back when he was coach: "Mike Ditka has discovered the forward pass...but he remains suspicious." So for me, it's amazing the...

Favorite lines from movies. (Keep it clean)

"In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, bloodshed — they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, five hundred years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."...

    great books that you've read

I enjoyed David Mitchell's previous books and I'm eager to read that one. I travel a lot for work so I always have a book or 2 with me for my time in the airports. Some recent reads that I've enjoyed: The Tender Bar - JR Moehringer The Dante Club - Matthew Pearl The Russian...

    If you could change tennis...

Wow, when I think of changing tennis only 3 things come to mind: 1) No wind when I'm playing 2) They should find a way to make tennis balls last longer 3) When I play mixed doubles I should be paired up with a hot partner.

does Federer suck the life out of tennis?

I don't find Federer boring at all. His shot-making, movement, use of angles, etc. are fun to watch for me.

And so far for Pusher terminator's theory of Federer's era replaced by Nadal's era...

It's interesting how quickly perception can change. After the French Open, much of the discussion was how Nadal is in Federer's head, changing of the guard, etc. Fast forward a few months and now Nadal is merely a clay court specialist. The truth lies somewhere in between. I think Nadal...

    Agassi's Shrewd Move

I believe Agassi announced his retirement plans prior to Wimbledon and that didn't exactly help him there did it? No need for conspiracy theories. Let's just enjoy the man's tennis and the US Open.

What are the best books on baseball?

The 2 best baseball books I've read are about the history of the game. 1) The Glory of Their Times by Lawrence Ritter - talk about old school! This is an oral history from players who played baseball in the early 1900s. Eyewitness accounts of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, etc...

    Baghdatis cramps

Yeah, Baghdatis will have to step up in terms of conditioning and preparation, but I imagine that will come in time. It's ironic Baghdatis was playing someone in Agassi who, when he first came up, was not known for his healthy eating habits or conditioning. Obviously Agassi changed his ways...

Any Mecir fan here? Then please tell me...

I absolutely loved watching Mecir play. His use of angles and disguise...when he was on his game there was no one more fun to watch for me. I see some echoes of his game in Andy Murray, who I think sees angles better than most players and isn't intimidated by heavy pace like Mecir.

    low point for men's tennis??

I would take most tennis commentary on shows like Pardon the Interruption with a grain of salt. Most of the American sports "experts" are not too knowledgeable about tennis and have little interest in getting to know players outside the US. I mean, imagine if Safin was American - the press...

    Murray +139 vs. Roddick -149

Re: Murray & Gilbert - This happened in Toronto as well. Murray was barking at Gilbert a lot. It was mentioned later that he wanted more energy/vocal support from Gilbert, probably to pump him up. I would imagine the same thing happened in Cincy - especially since Murray was so fatigued and...

Which of these two racquets has the best: power, control, comfort, feel and spin?

I have a Maxply McEnroe and haven't found it demanding or harsh. I guess it depends on what racket you're comparing it to. I normally use the Dunlop HM 200G when I play so comparatively speaking the Maxply has more power and spin than that I'm used to. For me it's a racket better suited to...
