String ideas for Boris Becker V1

Recently acquired a pair of used Boris Becker v1 frames -- they came strung with Solinco Bite, solid but a little harsh. I'd love to find a syngut or hybrid setup with good feel and pocketing. Any ideas on a good way to set up this frame? Thanks for any ideas!

    TiRadical Oversize specs ?

TW published flex was 60 for the OS version of the Ti.Rad. And the swingweight was something like 323, more than the i.Rad. Anyway, weight on Head frames can vary a lot within the same model, you may just have a heavy one. It is indeed a nice stick, some say the best of all the Radicals.

    like LM Radical but softer

I've been playing with a LM Radical OS -- the weight and power seem about right, but it makes my elbow a little sore, even with a multi string at low tension. Surprising, given the low stiffness -- maybe it's the piezo system? Anyway, I'm wondering if one of the other Radical models would be...

    help installing grommet strips!

update -- I called TW and had them send me another set, and it went right in -- something was clearly wrong with the first strip. I had to pay for the new set but they shipped it for free.

    help installing grommet strips!

no, didn't get it in, and managed to wreck the strip -- going to have to call TW and get another one.... any more thoughts about how to heat them up?

    help installing grommet strips!

Has anyone had trouble getting the grommet strips onto an LM Radical OS? I bought two sets from TW, one installed with difficulty, on the other frame the headguard strip won't go on no matter what I do. Tried lining up the holes with an awl, etc. I've never had trouble with any other...

Just Add Lead - the TW racquet (& shot) fix-all

Well yes, I think it can actually make more difference. An advanced player is more likely to be able to play well with any frame and adjust timing, etc, to make it work. I'm about a 3.5 and find with my present frames that adding a few grams helps control my timing and allows me to hit through...

Replacement for Prince Precision Equippe OS

maybe try the Donnay Pro 1 OS -- might be the closest to the Equipe these days.

Tweener with higher tension or player's racket with lower tension

The point of a tweener is that you can get more racquet speed with the same swing, and the idea of stringing one at high tension is so you can swing harder and get more spin without hitting long. So in general I would say heavier at lower tension for a flat player and lighter at higher tension...

Is there any heavy rackets with power?

They weren't banned, just agreed to leave the sporting goods business to settle a patent infringement suit by Wilson.

    Gamma rackets

Surprising -- I use the Diamond Fiber 9.0 oversize, and it's a great-feeling, well-made frame -- like a POG with more pop, and extremely comfortable. I also used the Tradition 18 for a while, again really liked the feel. Maybe the Ipex 7, but before and afterwards Gamma has put out some...

Should I switch from Pro Kennex Black Ace to the POG-110?

and they call THIS a Black Ace? SW should be around 400! It is to laugh.

    Stuck with racquet, bad situation.

Hey Bundey -- by all means trade if you want to, but it sounds as though you could work on your strokes first, especially if you haven't had any coaching -- the APD Cortex isn't really considered high-powered except among advanced tournament players, and should be good for somebody your age who...

    Prince POG.

yes, it's still in their catalog. It's still very popular, and can be used by a wide variety of players, so they are unlikely to discontinue it.

Cheap racquet for novice recreational player (NTRP~2.5)

That's a great price -- congratulations! You have a good, solid frame and can tweak grip, strings, etc until it works best for you. Sounds like you have already made an important discovery, that a smooth swing and good follow-through makes for better shots.

Beginner racquet for 45 year old

the O3's are a soft hit but very muted -- very little feel of the ball. He might also consider a Radical oversize, or the new reissue of the Donnay Pro One oversize -- both under $100 from TW, Actually he shouldn't be hurting himself with the M-fil either, just tell him to take it easy, as the...

    Back into tennis, which racket?

The TiS6 is pretty unique -- very light, stiff, and head-heavy, designed for as much power as possible. Very popular frame, but it also gave a lot of people arm trouble. They still sell it, you could just get another one and put colored strings on it for a different look. Or of you want...

Racquet advice for returning 44 year old

Your Precision Graphite is essentially a POG (Prince Original Graphite) with more strings, 18x20 or 18x21 if I remember correctly. Might be right around 12 ounces? It's a very good racquet, and there's really no reason to "upgrade" except for the novelty or unless you feel it's too heavy for...

Same old Grip size question....Please Help

hard to answer this, cause only you can tell what feels right. Yes, different companies make slightly different size and shape grips -- this is discussed at length here, do a search. And yes, overgrips make a difference, and so do different replacement grips. Best to just experiment until you...

One last new racket question. Advice Appreciated

Well, racquet price is determined by several things: (1) how new the model and technology is, (2) the coolness-factor, how many top pros are using it, or pretending to, and (3) quality of construction and materials. Of these, only (3) makes a difference. You want a well-made graphite frame...

    Recommend a COMFORTABLE racquet

How about the RDS 001 strung at lower tension? It's essentially a stiffer RDX 500. The Pro Kennex Ki5 or 5g might also be possibilities -- soft feel, nice controlled power, certainly more juice than the RDX.

Good Racquets for a ntrp of 2.5

Get something at least 11 ounces with a head at least 100 sqin. Best deal on TW right now for somebody your size and experience -- Prince Warrior oversize, $69.95 with free shipping. Very nice racquet. NXG OS is also good, or the Shark for $79.

    Help me to choose one

beware -- from the specs, the 6-1 Team will have even less power than your 300. And the O3's feel really different from a conventional racquet, they're really muted. I bought a Hybrid Shark (a lot like the White) and sold it again, couldn't feel the ball. How about a conventional (non-Hybrid)...

gear does not cause TE or injury

This is getting silly, not to mention sophomoric. For those of us without medical degrees, tennis elbow is when you hit tennis balls a bunch of times and the repeated shock and torque makes your elbow hurt. Since a heavy, head-light, flexible raquet with soft strings at low tension transmits...

Cheap racquet for novice recreational player (NTRP~2.5)

well, the Head has a bigger head, so if anything should have a slightly bigger sweetspot than the 300, so don't worry about it being too demanding. They should play similarly, though. The 400 is considerably stiffer and will be more powerful than the other two. But you really can't go too far...

gear does not cause TE or injury

rosenstar, I think we can all agree that mishits, technique and outside factors come into play. But I hope you would agree that equipment is also definitely a factor, because some setups transmit more shock on impact than others. In my own experience have learned that if I go lower than 11.5...

    Backhand Problem

hey TG777, it doesn't matter what rating you are (enter some rated tournaments and then you'll know!) it's just great that you're working out the mechanics. I'm a lefty too, not that it matters, but was interested to see some of the principles in the video that apply to my own 1H BH drive...
