Hurricane bearing down on last USTA League Nationals

There was supposed to be a facility built here in the Round Rock suburb of Austin, TX with groundbreaking scheduled for April 2020, but the developer has been silent since then. No idea if it's still on or not, but we would be a great location for nationals.

Teaching pro starting teaching at my public court

Yes, if the noon lesson wants to get in line at 8 AM and wait around until the instructor relinquishes the court at noon (allowing everyone behind them to go ahead of them on any other open court), then invite the instructor to join them at noon, I'm all for it. But it's the student's court...

    Adidas Stycon Laceless Tennis Shoe

Just picked up 8 pairs from Shoebacca of all places after a Houston based tennis specialty shop neglected to tell me my preordered pairs would not be delivered until I called them a month after the expected delivery (4 months after I put in my order). Hopefully that'll keep me for about 2 years...

USTA 3.5 Team in Los Angeles area looking for a few players

If you haven't posted in the "USTA Southern California 18-39 Tennis Network" group, try there; there's a good number of 3.5 SFV players that frequent the group.

    Texas sectionals

I play at a club where one of the NOHO guys is a pro, and he really is at just another level with effortless movement, incredible control and the absolute heaviest ball I've played against. He played top level college tennis, but not in America; he wouldn't be out of place playing at a...

    Self Rates and Appeal Downs

I think they're saying that they don't enjoy/can't find someone to play with in 3.5 at club because their partners aren't OK with them hitting powerful shots, not that OP is unable to hit the shots. But this screams inconsistency if they're not able to dial it down on the power side.

    Radical Team Building

I'm moving to Texas but I'm still going to join teams in LA and San Diego since I'll use it as an excuse to see my tennis friends /shrug . Not the same idea, but there can be legitimate reasons to have someone from another section playing.

The Carnage Begins: S rated players from 2020 getting DQed in 2021

What happens to the player who threads the needle and gets 3 strikes at level X putting their DNRTP slightly above X+0.5, but the matches are not strikes at the X+0.5 level? For example if player is playing as a 3.0S and gets strikes and maintains a DNRTP of 3.54 with a threshold of strikes for...

    Share your Match video!!

I recorded this close 3-setter with a friend a couple months ago, figured I'd share it now. I'm going to try and record more of my matches going forward, and throw in some commentary to enhance the video enjoyability.

I'll be there 3/17 or 18 through 3/21 and might drop in to a clinic at DTC... if I can wake up early enough for it.

    Quiz

I always did "A or V" for Head, and similarly "M or W" for Wilsons. Babolat I'll specify that I'm choosing long line up or down, and Yonex balls up or balls down.

Cedar Park (North Austin), TX USTA Facility

I ended up going with something in Highlands at Mayfield Ranch, but construction time is insane at this point; it looks like I'll be able to move in late Fall 2021. I'm excited for the move!

Cedar Park (North Austin), TX USTA Facility

I'm considering a move to the Austin area in the immediate future, and I saw that a new USTA Facility is going up in Cedar Park (https://www.usta.com/en/home/stay-current/texas/the-future-of-texas-tennis.html) . What sorts of adult programming are available at the other USTA sites like this one...

    2021 USTA League Official Thread.

I'm almost certain that I played a Tri-level match there yesterday; a match was played but whether I played in it or just stood there and watched the ball fly by me for an hour is debatable. I've also seen that San Gabriel Valley is organizing a singles Tri-Level league that is supposed to...

    USTA 2021 Adult Tournaments

One thing that I'm really happy to see here is that the local tournaments won't be single elimination. No more paying $50 to enter and then driving an hour each way to play for an hour and go home.

Was I in the Wrong Here? Or Justified?

I've got the WTT matches on right now, and in between sets of the 7/17/2020 Chicago - NY match they were highlighting the teams practicing soccer tennis. Hit opponent’s racket with follow through

Another strange situation almost came up for me last night. I’m at net and my partner hits a very short floater that is going to barely clear the net. Opposing net player coming in with a swinging volley and I’m coming in to try and just block it back from as close to the net as possible. I...

What happens if players can't agree which side of the net a ball lands on?

I was playing a match the other day and my opponent hit a ball that hits the net cord and bounds a few feet up. It then bounces within a foot of the net and then bounces over the height of the net and bounces for the second time on my side of the court. I'm pretty sure the first bounce was on...

    Year-end Rating Distribution

Graph seems a bit deceptive - for 3.5 the 34.3% bar is shorter than the 34.2% bar. I get that this is since the bar's length is in absolute number of players, but this representation seems a bit deceiving.

Refuse to play league match due to quality of courts?

It's mostly that left service box, where each of the pieces of exposed concrete has the elevated lip around the edge. I've tripped a few too many times in those.
