I've watched a few videos of pros playing 10-point tiebreakers instead of 7-pt tiebreaks in singles when a set goes 6-all. What's up with this?

    it was in LA open

They play a "super tiebreaker" on the doubles tour, instead of playing a 3rd set. I believe it's a 10 point tie-breaker. I have never heard of them doing it in singles. Got a video?

They did it in the Federer/Blake, McEnroe/Borg exhibitions last year after each match (single set events) went to a tiebreak.

Basically that's not in accordance with the official rules of tennis.

The current tiebreaker is called a 12-point tiebreaker.

Well, it doesn't count towards the H2H and doesn't contribute to the win-loss ratio. It's not a tour match.

I guess the rules are modified so that the qualy guys aren't completely exhausted for the main draw.

He means 12 total points. When the players get to 6-6 then the next person to lead by two points wins.

not in this case... guccione was up 8-6 at one point but didn't win

anyway as IvanAndreevich says this is not an official match... so i guess they just made up different rules for this shootout thing

Whoever reaches 10 points first wins. Must win by 2. Don't ask me why, but these are the rules for the shootout.

One of the comments posted on youtube says.........

"They are fighting for a spot on the main draw by playing tie breakers in a round robin format for the 2009 LA Tennis Open."

I hate super tie breaks lost loads of matches in em. lost one
0-6(fastest set ive ever won about 7-8mins) 7-6 (12-10) lost super tie break 10-8(was 9-1 down brought it back to -8 and he fire an ace. one of avery few matchs i remember in detail lol. i realy need to be down to play my best tennis so i always choose to recive i find it hard to serve out matches although i can hold it consistently most matches till it counts. not mentally tough enough

I mean they weren't hitting many first serves in that tiebreak.
