What are you looking for for direct main draw? Can't play this year since I just started playing again, been sidelined since April with injuries. I'm in college so I was hoping one year I would have enough credentials to get into the main draw instead of missing school to play qualies

    Hello Tony,
Great to hear from you. I'm glad you are injury free and playing well. I'll let you know as soon as I can about a direct acceptance.

Last year we were encouraged by the strong field. Nima Roshan, a top 500 player, won the tournament, but there were several players at his level, including Tony. To give you an indication of the depth we had, Philip Bester, now in the top 300, lost in the semis and had a close quarter final, saving a set point in the first set. We've proven that we can run a solid tournament, have tripled the prize money, so we'll wait and see what interest we will get this year. We're just beginning our tournament promotion campaign.

Ohhh, Calgary is actually pretty close to me. I live in the province capital, so it's only like a 2.5-3.0 hour drive for me to get down there! I may have to go and watch! :)

We are looking forward to having Tony Larson play at this year's tournament. In 2010, Tony beat a top Vancouver player, George Jecminek in the first round before losing to eventual finalist and No. 1 in Northern California, Brad Weston.

Clement Reix is the highest ranked player confirmed so far. We're waiting on confirmation for a few others and will have more information soon. This year's draw will be stronger than last year's, and we were very happy with 2010. Can you convince Doug Devriendt to come out and play?

I do not play as much now as I have set my time full to working out/bodybuilding but once a week this year instead of every day last year. UoM in winter, kildonan in summer. I just play for fun and enjoy the game not into tournaments, dont know doug personally.

No kdding. That guy just played Nadal didn't he? I don't think he won many games, but he went through qualies at IW. Gonna be tough for anyone to take him out.

Yes, he played Nadal at IW. I'm sure he'll be tough. There will be some other very talented players, including No. 268 Clement Reix.

Jecminek has to qualify, but Chu gets direct entry?

This looks like an awesome lineup and a great format. At this rate, you'll give the Vancouver Open a run for it's money! It's curious to me that Jecminek has to qualify and Chu gets a direct entry. In one ranking I see that Jecminek is ranked higher than Chu, but on another ranking Jecminek is not even on the list... seems strange.

at the www.tennisbc.org site under NTRP Men's Open it lists:

    1 Henry Choi
    2 Philip Bester
    3 Nick Coutts
    3 George Jecminek
    5 Graeme Kassautzki
    6 Daniel Chu
    7 Jeremy Salvo
    8 Yvon Haessing
    9 Justin Guay
    10 Patrick Flint

The other ranking doesn't have Jecminek anywhere to be seen: http://www.tennisbc.org/rogers-rankings/open/ntrp-mens

Might need to clarify with Tennis BC? Maybe the local rankings don't really matter for this tournament? Do any of the local guys besides Bester have ATP points?

Regardless, this looks like a really good event and if possible I will try to make the trip across the straight from the lower mainland!

Thanks very much for the encouragement.

It's difficult to seed when some players are playing Futures and Challengers, others money tournaments, others are college players, others are teaching pros, others only play in the US and still others only play in Canada. We do our best to make a decision about who the best players are, regardless of how many points they have and where they have those points.

I hope you make it over to the tournament. If you do, let me know if you would like me to arrange preferred rates for you at our tournament hotel.

Our main draw direct acceptances have been decided, and our qualifiers will be determined this weekend. We have a few requests for the 2 wild card spots, but it's not too late to ask for one. So if you or anyone you know has the necessary credentials to compete at this level, please let me know. There is a free hotel and guaranteed prize money for anyone in the main draw.

    Great line-up this year! Congrats.
Our "local" Vancouver boys like Henry, George and of course Philip will be up for a challenge against some of these top guys. Should be a great tournament. Depending on my schedule it would certainly be worth the ferry ride over.
